A reflective polarized-light separating diffraction-element including a substrate, a reflection surface formed on a surface of the substrate, and a lattice structured body assembly that is provided on the reflection surface and exhibits a form birefringence (Δn*). The lattice structured body assembly includes lattice structured bodies of a plurality of patterns having lattice structures of different azimuths, and these lattice structured bodies of a plurality of patterns are aligned in a predetermined direction on the reflection surface so that the azimuths of the lattice structures change in a structurally periodic manner.

A birefringence measurement device includes a light flux generator for generating light flux, a light flux irradiator for irradiating a measurement target with the light flux in a predetermined polarization state, an imaging optical system for forming an image from light flux transmitted through the measurement target, a polarization/diffraction grating positioned within the imaging optical system, an image pickup for generating a light-dark signal related to brightness of the image, and an output for outputting information regarding a phase difference for the light flux. The phase difference resulting from the transmission through the measurement target is determined on the basis of the light-dark signal. The image pickup generates the light-dark signal for the image based on at least one beam of diffracted light from among a plurality of beams of diffracted light produced by the grating. A two-dimensional distribution of birefringence is obtained in real time without a rotating mechanism.

Microwave heating device

When a hood fan of a microwave oven installed at a high place operates, the air below the microwave oven is guided to a prescribed direction. Namely, the microwave oven may be used as a ventilation fan. When manner of setting of the hood fan is changed, the direction of an air outlet of the fan can be changed. When the hood fan exhausts air to the room, the number of rotation of the hood fan is made lower than when the air is exhausted outside the room.

A microwave oven includes electronic components such as a high voltage transformer and a high voltage capacitor constituting a control circuit. These components are provided on a bottom panel of the microwave oven. A filter is fit under the bottom panel of the microwave oven. By removing the filter, the bottom panel can be detached from the main body frame. By detaching the bottom panel from the main body frame, the electronic components such as the high voltage transformer and the high voltage capacitor can be removed from the main body of the microwave oven while the microwave oven is still mounted at a high position. A cooking appliance that can be easily handled is provided.

The inventive clothes dryer is provided with a system for preventing the overheating of the clothes in the drum caused by the abnormality in the V-belt, such as the break or derailment thereof. By the system, the power supply to the motor is halted temporarily while the motor is rotated at a predetermined speed, whereafter the motor keeps rotating due to its inertia. During the inertial rotation of a predetermined period of time, the number of rotations of the motor is counted. When the V-belt is in the normal state, the motor is loaded appropriately, so that the speed of the motor falls rapidly during the inertial rotation, and the number of rotations is accordingly small. When, on the other hand, the V-belt is in an abnormal state, the number of rotations is large. Therefore, the state of the V-belt is checked by comparing the number of rotations to a predetermined value, and when the number is smaller than the predetermined value, the drying operation is stopped.

A clothes drier according to the present invention can minimize failures in a sensor and can satisfactorily detect drying processing irrespective of the environment. In the clothes drier, an atmospheric temperature sensor 44L for detecting the substrate temperature required to determine the termination of the drying processing is disposed outside a circulating duct 18 and is mounted on a control substrate 42 having a thermal capacity on which a microcomputer for controlling operations performed by the clothes drier is mounted. Since the sensor 44L is provided outside the circulating duct 18, the sensor 44L is less affected by dust and water, as compared with a case where it is provided inside the circulating duct 18.
