Provided are a transport device and a printing device configured to minimize fluctuation in a tension of a medium in a portion between a first transport unit and a second transport unit. A transport device provided to a printing device includes a transport mechanism serving as an example of the first transport unit, a winding unit serving as the second transport unit disposed downstream of the transport mechanism in a transport direction, a tension imparting unit provided with a tension bar serving as an example of a tension imparting member biased toward a medium between the transport mechanism and the winding unit and configured to impart tension to the medium, and a biasing force adjustment unit serving as an adjustment unit configured to adjust at least one of a biasing force of the tension bar and a relative speed between the tension bar and the medium.

Transport device and printing device

A transport device provided in a printing apparatus includes a transport mechanism as an example of a first transport unit and a winding unit that is disposed on a downstream side of the transport mechanism in a transport direction. The transport device includes a tensile force applying unit that has a tension bar as an example of a tensile force applying member that is biased toward a medium between the transport mechanism and the winding unit and applies tensile force to the medium. Furthermore, the transport device includes a control unit that independently and intermittently drives the transport mechanism and the winding unit. The control unit controls transport start timing of the winding unit to take place later than transport start timing of the transport mechanism and causes the transport mechanism and the winding unit to transport the medium in parallel.

A printing apparatus includes a transport unit which includes a transport roller pair which transports a medium in a transport direction, a printing unit which prints onto the medium, a winding unit which winds the printed medium, and a tension application unit which applies a tension to the medium at a position between the transport roller pair and the winding unit. The tension application unit includes a pair of arms which are capable of rotating. A tension bar is supported on one end of the arms and comes into contact with the medium. A transporter is adapted to transport a tray on which the target medium is mounted toward a region facing the liquid ejecting head via a transporting path. A tray guide is disposed in a front side of the liquid ejecting apparatus, and having a supporting face adapted to support the tray thereon. The tray guide is movable between a first position connecting the supporting face with the transporting path to allow the transporter to transport the tray to the transporting path and a second position escaping the supporting face from the transporting path. The supporting face is kept being parallel to the transporting path when the tray guide is moved between the first position and the second position.

Liquid ejecting apparatus

A liquid ejecting apparatus includes a liquid ejecting head ejecting liquid from nozzles thereof formed on a nozzle formation surface onto a target that is being transported; and a rotating member rotatably disposed opposite the nozzle formation surface, the rotating member having a supporting surface for supporting the target and an absorbing surface for absorbing the liquid ejected from the nozzle. The rotating member has such a configuration that a first maximum length from a rotational center to the absorbing surface is longer than a second maximum length from the rotational center to the supporting surface.

A recording apparatus has a recording head, a platen, and a first hole. The recording head includes a dot formation element array, and the platen holds a recording medium opposite the recording head. The first hole is disposed in an area of the platen opposite a downstream portion of the dot formation element array and guides ink discarded outside an end of the recording medium when the end is printed without a margin. Alternatively or additionally, a second hole is formed in an area of the platen opposite an upstream portion of the dot formation element array, and the platen guides ink, which is discarded outside an end of the recording medium when the end is printed without a margin, to the second hole.
