An audio interface apparatus includes a communication apparatus configured to receive first time-series sound data from a computing device, an input circuit including an input port configured to be coupled with a sound input apparatus, an output circuit including an output port configured to be coupled with a sound output apparatus, a memory, and a processor. The processor is configured to: store, in the memory, the first time-series sound data, to output, to the output circuit, the first time-series sound data stored in the memory, to acquire a second time-series sound data from the input circuit, to store, in the memory, the second time-series sound data, to generate an identifier for synchronizing the second time-series sound data with the first time-series sound data, and to transmit, to the computing device, the second time-series sound data and the identifier.

A method of controlling a plurality of external devices is performed on a computer which is set up with a plurality of remote control processes corresponding to the plurality of the external devices, and a management process for managing the remote control processes while communicating with the remote control processes. The management process is called to display icons corresponding to the remote control processes in a display field provided by the management process. Further, the management process acts when a specified operation is applied to one of the icons on the display field for sending a screen open instruction to one of the remote control processes corresponding to the icon to which the specified operation is applied. The remote control process which receives the screen open instruction is activated to display a control screen for use in remotely controlling the corresponding external device.

A plurality of devices connected to a network each includes at least either one or more output plugs for transmitting one or more data streams, or one or more input plugs for receiving one or more data streams, and each of the devices is capable of packeting a plurality of data streams and isochronously transferring the packet to another device in the network. Such arrangements facilitate setting of logical connection between the devices interconnected via the network.

In a data conversion rule switching device, a data conversion rule suitable for control of a target device assigned to a data communication port is set for each of a plurality of data communication ports. When a data communication port to be used is selected, operation data corresponding to operation of a plurality of controls provided outside or inside the data conversion rule switching device and generated in response to the operation is converted into an operation data suitable for control of the target device in accordance with the data conversion rule set for the selected data communication port, and the converted operation data is sent to the selected data communication port.

A musical tone generation apparatus is basically configured by a main sound source device installing an extension board. Herein, the main sound source device is configured by a CPU, memories, operators, a music synthesizer, a mixer, an effector and a sound system, while the extension board is configured by fabricating a CPU (or sequencer), memories and a music synthesizer (or effector). When the extension board is installed in the main sound source device, function setting data regarding new functions installed on the extension board is automatically transferred to the main sound source device so that a user is capable of adequately setting and controlling the new functions by using the operators. If the extension board corresponds to a tone color extension board that provides extended tone colors which differ from preset tone colors being installed in the main sound source device in advance, the main sound source device is capable of generating musical tones using the extended tone colors. In that case, it is possible for the sequencer to enable reproduction of a specific sound pattern such as an arpeggio and a phrase to be suited to the extended tone color(s). If the extension board corresponds to an extended effect board that provides extended effects such as harmony, reverb, chorus and echo, the main sound source device is capable of adequately imparting them to musical tones or other sounds.

A music apparatus has a set of controls manually operable to input a performance event, a waveform memory storing an original waveform sample composed of a series of digital values sequentially readable from a default start address, and a processor for executing a tone generating process in response to the performance event. The tone generating process is executed by the steps of scanning the original waveform sample to determine a set of variational start addresses which are diverging from the default start address and which are allotted to corresponding ones of the controls, detecting an operated control among the plurality of the controls, specifying one of the variational start addresses corresponding to the operated control upon detection thereof, reading the original waveform sample from the specified variational start address to provide a variational waveform sample which is diversified from the original waveform sample uniquely to the specified variational start address, and synthesizing a musical tone unique to the operated control in accordance with the provided variational waveform sample and in response to the performance event.

In executing a music performance on the basis of supplied performance data, a feeling of swing can be imparted to the performance by delaying tone-generation start time of a tone, based on the performance data, at each predetermined beat such as upbeat. In this case, if an original tone-generation end time of the tone to be delayed is ahead of tone-generation start time of a next tone, control is executed to automatically change a duration of the tone in such a manner that actual tone-generation end time of the delayed note comes ahead of the tone-generation start time of the next tone. In this manner, the delay control can be properly executed on staccato performance data without losing characteristics of staccato. If, on the other hand, the original tone-generation end time of the tone to be delayed is behind the tone-generation start time of the next tone, control is executed to automatically change the duration of the tone in such a manner that the actual tone-generation end time of the delayed tone comes behind the tone-generation start time of the next tone. In this manner, the delay control can be properly executed on legato performance data without losing characteristics of legato.

Device and method for executing control to shift tone-generation start

An automatic performance, such as an automatic arpeggio performance or a short-phrase sequence performance, is executed on the the basis of manual performance note data corresponding to key depression on a keyboard, and automatic performance note data are obtained from the automatic performance. The manual performance note data and automatic performance note data are output to an external device after both of the note data are imparted different MIDI channel messages, i.e., channel identification data. The manual performance note data and automatic performance note data can be used properly because they can be accurately distinguished from each other by the different channel identification data. For example, it is possible to avoid the inconvenience that a further automatic performance is executed on the basis of the automatic performance note data.

A parameter setting apparatus is provided in an electronic music instrument for editing a configure of parameters in accordance with a manipulation amount to set a tone generator which creates a desired timbre of musical tones upon setting. An effect imparting device is constructed such that effects of a first kind which are different from each other are imparted to at least two of a plurality of musical tone signals transmitted via a plurality of channels. At least two of the musical tone signals are mixed. An effect of a second kind is imparted to the resulting signal. The effect imparting device is adapted to bypass at least one of effect-imparting blocks. An electronic musical instrument can change one of the effects of the first kind corresponding to a tone color of at least one of the musical tone signals transmitted via the channels simultaneously when the tone color is changed, while changing of an effect of the second kind is inhibited. A plurality of output terminals are provided through which the musical tone signals of the channels and to which effects have been imparted can be output to an external device, in a manner independent of each other.
