A large-area superconductor magnetic shield comprising a plurality of small superconductor unit layers stuck onto the surface of a large-area substrate, wherein the external peripheral sections of the adjacent unit layers are overlapped mutually or the end sections of the adjacent unit layers are abutted mutually such that the adjacent unit layers do not make contact with one another. Compared with conventional magnetic shields, the magnetic shielding amount at the overlapping sections of the magnetic shield of the present invention is substantially greater.

Superconductor magnetic shield

A static magnetic refrigerator comprising a magnet generating a high-intensity magnetic field, a magnetic working material disposed in the high-intensity magnetic field, a magnetic shield disposed between the magnet and the magnetic working material, and a rotating means for rotating the magnetic shield, the magnetic shield comprising a pair of nearly parallel flat plates or a pair of outwardly curved plates facing each other and made of a superconductor, and the magnetic working material is accommodated in the inner space form by the pair of the flat or curved plates, whereby a magnetization process wherein the magnetic working material is magnetized in the high-intensity magnetic field by way of rotating the magnetic shield at a position allowing the permeation of the magnetic field through the magnetic working material via the pair of the flat or curved plates and a demagnetization process wherein the magnetic working material is demagnetized by way of further rotating the superconducting magnetic shield at another position permitting the shield of the magnetic field via the pair of the flat or curved plates are repeated by the rotating means so that the magnetic working material generates coldness.

Static magnetic refrigerator

A magnetic refrigerator comprising a magnet generating a high-intensity magnetic field, a tube-shaped superconducting magnetic shield, a magnetic working material and a reciprocating means for reciprocatively moving the superconducting magnetic shield or the magnetic working material, the magnetic refrigerator being arranged such that a magnetization process wherein the magnetic working material is magnetized in the high-intensity magnetic field and a demagnetization process wherein the magnetic working material is demagnetized by being accommodated in the hollow section of the magnetic shield are repeated by the reciprocating means so that the magnetic working material generates coldness. By using the property of a tube-shaped superconductor which can shield the magnetism of an external magnetic field passing through the hollow section of the tube and can generate a zero-intensity magnetic field in the hollow section, the magnetic working material magnetized in the high-intensity magnetic field generated by the magnet is inserted into the hollow section of the tube-shaped superconducting shield and is demagnetized in an adiabatic condition to generate coldness. This coldness is used to cool the target cold bath.

Magnetic refrigerator

A superconductor for magnetic field shield comprising closed-ring disc-shaped superconductive magnetic field shielding members and spacing members having the same shape as that of the magnetic field shielding member and alternately laminated with the shielding members, the superconductor for magnetic field shield being characterized in that the shield has an extremely superior and stable magnetic field shielding effect without any secular reduction of the shielding effect and capable of providing a large shielding space using a minimum amount of material.

Superconductor for magnetic field shield

A magnetic field shield including a superconductive film characterized in that the magnetic field shield comprises a superconductive film layer constituted primarily of a mixed crystalline body of niobium nitride and titanium nitride laminated on a metal substrate, that the magnetic field further comprises a nobium-titanium alloy layer or a metal film layer in the above lamination, that the magnetic field comprises a plurality of the above-mentioned layers, and that the magnetic field has a plurality of small holes passing through the layers in the direction of the thickness. The magnetic field shield of the present invention produces an excellent magnetic field shielding effect due to a superconductive characteristic peculiar to the superconductive film layer constituted primarily by a mixed crystalline body of niobium nitride and titanium nitride. The cooling effect of the metal substrate maintains the magnetic field shielding effect at a high level. In addition, due to the use of the niobium-titanium alloy layer, the magnetic field shield has high resistance against peeling, greatly increasing the practical usefulness of the magnetic field shield. In the case of the magnetic field shield with a plurality of the laminated layers, the cooling effect of the metal film layers included in the multiple layers stably maintains the magnetic field shielding effect of the superconductive film layers. In the case of the magnetic field shield with small holes, the electromagnetic shielding and cooling effects of the holes are added to further strengthen the magnetic field shielding effect.

Magnetic field shield including a superconductive film

A superconductor for magnetic field shielding comprising a substrate, at least one superconductor film layer, which is laminated on the substrate, and a plurality of small holes 2 which pass through the substrate and the superconductor film layer, wherein the thickness of the superconductor film layer is 100 .mu.m or less. The superconductor of the present invention uses both superconductive shielding and electromagnetic shielding to deliver extremely high magnetic shielding performance.
