An arrangement for securing a terminal end of a covering member in an automotive seat, in which a carpet is laid on the reverse side of the seat, the arrangement comprising a securing member provided at the terminal end of covering member and a securing groove formed on the reverse surface of seat frame of the seat. By inserting the securing member in the securing groove, both terminal ends of the covering member and end of the carpet can be secured to the seat frame at the same time, and further there may be eliminated such creation of level difference or unevenness in the carpet on the reverse side of seat.

Arrangement for securing terminal ends of an automotive seat covering

A seat moving apparatus performs adjustments of a seat portion in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle as well as height or tilting adjustments using only one electric motor to decrease the number of elements of the apparatus and to reduce the weight and size of the apparatus. A linkage for driving a seat for a vehicle is disclosed which is arranged in such a manner that first and second nut members are matably attached to operational shafts connected to the single motor. The first nut members are fixed to a floor of the vehicle. The second nut members are attached to the seat through linkages. A clutch body of each nut member can be, by a clutch operation mechanism, selectively switched between a movement state and a non-movement state. In the movement state, a clutch body of the clutch mechanism is positioned at a second shifting position and the nut members are engaged with and longitudinal moved along the threaded operation shafts. In the non-movement state, the clutch body is positioned in a first shifting position and the nut members are not moved during rotation of the operational shafts. The first nut members adjust the positions of the seat in the longitudinal direction and the second nut members adjust the height or tilt of the seat.

A method and device for controlling a headrest provided on a seat back of a seat, in which there is arranged an over-load detecting system for detecting an over-load state of a motor and automatically stopping the motor if the over-load state is detected during displacement of the headrest to a use position, or automatically driving the motor to return the headrest to a use position if the over-load state is detected during displacement of the headrest to a non-use position. In the control device, the number of rotations of the motor to move the side support is detected by a rotation sensor, the detected number of counts is stored in a counter memory in link with the switch operation, and the amounts of opening and closing of the side support can be adjusted quickly and easily by switch operations.

Side support control device for use in a vehicle seat

A seat suspension device which comprises an upper frame, a lower frame, a pair of linkage mechanisms provided between the upper and lower frames, and a torsion bar which elastically supports the seat upon the suspension device. The torsion bar is so arranged that it extends along the lateral bar section of one of the upper and lower frames, with its support end portion being secured at the other of the upper and lower frames, so as to resiliently support the upper frame. Further, the linkage mechanisms have downwardly arced upper portions in each of their links. Thus, these structures permit the lowering of the upper frame or the seat down to a lowest possible degree without interference of the parts of the linkage mechanisms and torsion bar.

Seat suspension device

A seat suspension device including an elastic biasing mechanism for elastically biasing a seat frame away from a lower base frame, a locking mechanism for locking the seat frame to thereby place the seat suspension device in a locked state, and a biasing force adjustment mechanism for adjusting the biasing force of the elastic biasing mechanism. The locking mechanism is so arranged that it will bring to a locked state the seat suspension device when the biasing force of the elastic biasing mechanism is reduced to a lowest degree by operation of the biasing force adjustment mechanism. Accordingly, by merely operating the biasing force adjustment mechanism, both biasing force adjustment and locking/unlocking operation are effected.

A side support device for use with a seat in a vehicle is disclosed. In the device, an inclination sensing switch for detecting the inclination of the seat is arranged in the seat and is also connected through a relay to a motor which is used to open or close a side support provided in the seat. The side support can be moved to its open or closed position according to the inclination of the seat.

The present invention is an improvement in seat construction for seating at least two passengers which includes a seat frame having front and back sides running the length of the frame and left and right sides running transverse of the frame, and is adapted to support at least two passenger seats. In particular, the present invention includes independent thigh support devices for each of the passengers, and a cushion member for each of the passengers which extend from the back of the seat frame and are arranged on each of the thigh support devices for simultaneous movement therewith and each of which have a perimeter dimension for supporting a passenger. Each of the thigh support devices, in turn, includes a thigh support frame pivotally fixed to the back of the seat frame for upward and downward rotation each thigh support frame formed so that it is substantially coextensive with the perimeter of each cushion member. Thus, up and down movement of each of the thigh support frames coextensively adjust each of the cushion members in up and down positions so that thigh support for a passenger on each of the cushion members is maintained substantially coplanar at all times during and between adjustments.

A locking device for a seat suspension provided in a seat for use in a vehicle such as an automobile is disclosed in which an upper frame attached to the seat proper side is supported via front and rear links to a lower frame fixed to the vehicle floor side in such a manner that it can be oscillated in a vertical direction relative to the lower frame, the upper frame is provided with engagement pins, and the lower frame is provided with lock plates engageable with the engagement pins. The lock plates are connected through link piece means with a shaft slidable longitudinally by an operation lever and also can be engaged with or disengaged from the engagement pins by the longitudinal sliding movements of the shaft. When the lock plates are engaged with the engagement pins, the link-piece means is connected with the shaft in a direction perpendicular thereto. Thus, when such a force is caused to act on the lock plates as to remove them from their respective engaged positions, such force will be applied through the link-piece means to the shaft perpendicularly, so that the engagement can be positively maintained.

Locking device for a seat suspension

A weight adjustment device for a seat suspension to be provided in a seat for a vehicle such as an automobile is disclosed in which an upper frame and a lower frame are connected to each other by means of links, a rotary shaft is journalled between the two side portions of the lower frame and is provided at the two ends thereof with pinion gears integrally therewith, the pinion gears are intermeshed with sector gears freely rotatable in a vertical direction, and there are tension springs respectively extending between the respective first ends of the pinions gears and arms rotatable integrally with the links, whereby the sector gears are rotated by means of operation of an operation lever fixed to the rotary shaft to change the tensile forces of the tension springs so as to be able to adjust the height of the upper frame relative to the lower frame.

Weight adjustment device for a seat suspension

A seat suspension featuring a weight-responsive, height-adjusting mechanism which is advantageously employed in a seat intended to be installed in a smaller sized vehicle is disclosed. The seat suspension includes a pair of shock absorbers arranged at the lower portion of X-shaped links with its height being substantially the same as that of the lower portion of said links.

A body-weight adjusting device for a seat suspension is provided including an X-shaped link mechanism constituting the seat suspension, a combination of pinions and rack gears and a pair of tension springs. Vertical movement of an operation lever causes rotation of the pinion gears and simultaneous rotation of the intermeshing rack gears, to thereby increase or decrease the tension of the tension springs. In response to such tension variation in the tension springs, the X-shaped link mechanism is raised or lowered corresponding so as to permit a selective adjustment of the seat suspension to accommodate the weight of a seated occupant.

A body-weight adjusting device for a seat suspension is provided including a combination of bell cranks, tension springs and a connecting rod. Vertical movement of an operation lever results in an increase or decrease in the tension of the springs (depending upon the starting position of the lever) in response to which the seat suspension mechanism is raised or lowered correspondingly so as to permit a selective adjustment of the seat suspension in accordance with the weight of a seated occupant.

An improved seat with an air suspension is disclosed in which detector means, a control circuit and electromagnetic valves are cooperatively used to operate the air suspension so as to automatically control the amount of air to be contained within the air suspension according to the weights of different occupants of the seat. Outputs from the detection means for detecting the vertical displacements of the seat are inputted to the control circuit and held therein for a predetermined period of time before the control circuit is operated to control the amount of air to be contained within the air suspension.
