A flourescent luminous type display device capable of providing display at increased luminance while being simplified in structure. An insulating substrate constituting a vacuum airtight envelope is laminatedly formed on an inner surface thereof with cathode electrodes and emitters in order. Another insulating substrate is laminatedly formed on an inner surface thereof with an anode electrode and phosphor layers. The phosphor layers contain a secondary electron emission material. When a switch is closed, electron emitted from the emitters are permitted to be impinged on the phosphor layers, leading to luminescence thereof. The anode electrode merely has a pulse-like drive signal applied thereto through a capacitor, however, secondary electrons emitted from the phosphor layers permit the luminescence to be maintained even after stop of the drive signal.

Fluorescent luminous type display device

A fluorescent display device including a planar cathode is provided which is capable of carrying out setting of an interval between a cathode and an anode and alignment therebetween with high precision. A cathode substrate having an FEC formed thereon is mounted through a lead frame on support members. Lead wires of the lead frame are abutted against bumps on the cathode substrate. An anode substrate having a holding frame attached thereto is positioned with respect to the cathode substrate and the holding frame and lead frame are fixed to each other. Both substrates thus temporarily fixed to each other are combined with a casing while keeping the cathode substrate facing down. Then, the anode substrate and casing are sealedly connected to each other.

Fluorescent display device and process for manufacturing same

A field emission element in which a cathode substrate and an anode substrate are spaced from each other and are hermetically sealed. The field emission element comprises cathode electrodes and gate terminals formed on the cathode substrate; an insulating layer overlaying the cathode electrodes and the gate electrodes, the cathode electrodes and the gate terminals being partially extracted outward from the insulating layer, gate electrodes formed on the insulating layer, wherein the gate electrodes are arranged so as to cross said cathode electrodes at intersections, openings each being formed through a cathode electrode and an insulating layer at each of the intersections, a resistance layer at least formed on a part of each of the cathode electrodes, and emitter electrodes each electrically connected to a cathode electrode via the resistance layer formed within an opening. Each of the gate electrode is electrically connected to a corresponding one of the gate terminals via a through hole formed in the insulating layer.

Field emission element

A field emission type fluorescent display device capable of exhibiting high luminescence under a low voltage while minimizing leakage luminescence and color mixing, to thereby improve display quality. An anode and a field emission cathode are arranged opposite to each other and the cathode is divided into a plurality of unit regions in a matrix-like configuration, which are matrix-driven, resulting in a display being selectively carried out. The unit regions each are divided into a plurality of subregions and the cathode and anode are divided into a plurality of strip-like electrodes perpendicular to each other, respectively. The strip-like electrode each correspond to each of subregions and are commonly connected to each other at every second interval. Also, a focusing electrode may be arranged between the gate and the anode so as to surround the unit regions.

Field emission display (FED) with matrix driving, electron beam focusing

A vacuum container capable of arranging a getter member therein while preventing an increase in overall height of an envelope and therefore the vacuum container. An anode substrate on which anode electrodes providing a display section are formed and a cathode substrate on which field emission cathodes are formed are arranged opposite to each other and sealedly joined to each other through an outer periphery thereof, to thereby provide an envelope. The cathode substrate is formed with a through-hole communicating with an interior of the envelope. The through-hole has a getter member received therein. The cathode substrate is provided on a portion of an outer surface thereof at which the through-hole is formed with an evacuation pipe through which the envelope is evacuated.

Reduced thickness vacuum container with getter

A field emission type display device including a container formed of an anode substrate, a cathode substrate and side wall portions, and a cover member mounted at the container to form a getter room. An anode lead is securely fixed on the cover member so as to be derived outward from the outer wall confronting the anode substrate. Two wires are attached to the front end of the anode lead. When the cover member is mounted on the container, the curved portions of the two wires is pressed against the anode terminal formed on the anode substrate extended to the end of the anode substrate to secure electric conduction between the anode terminal and the anode lead. This structure provides easy-to-use anode leads which can be simply derived as electrodes.

Field emission display device with improved dielectric breakdown

An image display device including a field emission element capable of preventing diffusion of electrons to be impinged on a display section. An anode substrate is provided thereon with a phosphor-deposited display section and a cathode substrate is provided thereon with field emission elements including cathode conductors, emitter electrodes and gate electrodes. The cathode conductors and gate electrodes are formed into a stripe-like shape and arranged so as to intersect each other to form a matrix. A stripe-like diffusion prevention electrode is arranged between each adjacent two of the gate electrodes. The emitter electrodes selected by the gate electrodes and cathode conductors emit electrons. The diffusion prevention electrodes on both sides of each of the gate electrodes selected are applied thereto a voltage lower than a voltage of the gate electrodes, so that the electrons may be impinged on the display section required without diffusion, to thereby permit picture cells required to emit light.

Image display device and drive device therefor

A field emission type fluorescent display device capable of exhibiting high luminescence under a low voltage while minimizing leakage luminescence and color mixing, to thereby improve display quality. An anode and a field emission cathode are arranged opposite to each other and the cathode is divided into a plurality of unit regions in a matrix-like configuration, which are matrix-driven, resulting in a display being selectively carried out. The unit regions each are divided into a plurality of subregions and the cathode and anode are divided into a plurality of strip-like electrodes perpendicular to each other, respectively. The strip-like electrodes each correspond to each of subregions and are commonly connected to each other at every second interval. Also, a focusing electrode may be arranged between the gate and the anode so as to surround the unit regions.

Field emission display (FED) with matrix driving electron beam focusing

In a field emission type device, pairs of patch-shaped cathode electrodes 3 are disposed on each of cathode electrodes 2 with an insulation in the line direction. Even-numbered patch-shaped gate electrodes 3 are connected to a first gate lead electrode GT1 on a line perpendicular to the cathode electrodes 2. Odd-numbered patch-shaped gate electrodes are connected to a second gate lead electrode GT2. An anode electrode 8 with a phosphor is disposed opposite to the patch-shaped gate electrodes 3. The first gate lead electrode GT1 and the second gate lead electrode GT2 are alternatively driven. The voltage of one of the first gate lead electrode GT1 and the second gate lead electrode GT2 is set to a ground level. Image data is supplied to cathode lead electrodes Cl to Ck. The voltage of the patch-shaped gate electrodes disposed adjacent to a patch-shaped gate electrode 3 that is driven is set to the ground level. Thus, electrons emitted are focused.

Field emission type device, field emission type image displaying

A drive circuit for an image display device capable of permitting anode lead-out wires to be led out without using a three-dimensional wiring structure and an image free of color bleeding to be displayed. Two-divided first and second anode electrodes are arranged opposite to stripe-like gate electrodes and are alternately driven. During driving of the first anode electrodes, cathode electrodes are scanned and only gate electrodes opposite to the anode electrodes are fed with image data. Then, the second anode electrodes are driven and scanning is likewise carried out. Thus, an image for one frame is displayed. Electrodes arranged on both sides of each of the anode electrodes and gate electrodes in a manner to be adjacent thereto have a potential kept at a ground level.

Drive circuit for image display device

A flat-type fluorescent display device permitting luminous display to be observed through only a front glass cover while substantially increasing luminance. A front glass cover is provided on an inner surface thereof with FECs constituted by cathode lines, insulating layers, emitters and gate lines so as to define light-permeable sections between FECs. A substrate is formed opposite to the light-permeable sections with anodes constituted by anode-lines and phosphor layers. Electrons emitted from the FECs impinge on the anodes, leading to luminescence of the phosphor layer, which is then observed through the light-permeable sections of the front glass cover.

Flat-type fluorescent display device

An FEC type fluorescent display device capable of carrying out a segment display of a small capacity. The fluorescent display device includes a substrate; a field emission cathode including a cathode electrode, an emitter and a gate electrode and arranged provided on an inner surface of the substrate for every display unit or digit; a front cover arranged opposite to the substrate for every digit; and a phosphor-deposited anode electrode arranged on an inner surface of the front cover for digit so as to face the field emission cathode. Any one of the cathode electrode, gate electrode and anode electrode is divided into a plurality of segments in a shape of a luminous display section for every digit, resulting in being a segmented electrode. Another one of the cathode electrode, gate electrode and anode electrode acts as a display selecting electrode corresponding to the display unit, resulting in a segment display being carried out.

Fluorescent display device

A field emission cathode capable of permitting a display to be carried out at increased density and a circuit incorporated therein together with an FEC to exhibit satisfactory characteristics and being driven according to a static drive system. A plurality of control lines and data wires are arranged in a matrix-like manner on a monocrystalline Si substrate, to thereby form element regions on the substrate. The element regions each are formed therein with a circuit element, on which a field emission section is laminated. The circuit elements each include a first transistor connected to both data wire and control wire and functioning as a switching element, a capacitor serving as a circuit for storing therein a signal input thereto, and a second transistor for amplifying a signal input thereto and feeding it to the field emission section.
