The invention provides a low-friction sliding mechanism, a low-friction agent composition, a friction reduction method, a manual transmission and a final reduction gear unit that can exert very excellent low friction characteristics to sliding surfaces present under various applications, and, in particular, that have more excellent low friction characteristics than that of a combination of an existing steel material and an organic Mo compound. The low-friction sliding mechanism has an oxygen-containing organic compound or an aliphatic amine compound interposed between sliding surfaces that a DLC coated sliding member and a sliding member form. The low-friction agent composition contains an oxygen-containing organic compound or an aliphatic amine compound. The friction reduction method includes supplying the low-friction agent composition between sliding surfaces that a DLC coated sliding member and a sliding member form. The manual transmission includes, as at least one of sliding members, a DLC coated sliding section. The final reduction gear unit includes, as at least one of sliding members, a DLC coated sliding section.

Low-friction sliding mechanism, low-friction agent composition and method of friction reduction

The present invention relates to a lubricant for lubricating relatively movable, facing contact surfaces at least one of which is coated with DLC, a method of lubricating DLC contact surfaces with this lubricant, and a system having DLC contact surfaces. The lubricant fulfills the following conditions (a) and (b):

The present invention relates to a system wherein a pair of relatively movable, facing DLC contact surfaces at least one of which is coated with a DLC film, are further lowered in friction, and the low friction property is stably maintained. The present invention also relates to a lubricant for the system, and a lubricating method. The lubricant for the system having the DLC contact surfaces contains lubricant base oil (A) mainly composed of base oil (X), and sulfur-containing molybdenum complex (B). The base oil (X) is at least one of hydrocracked mineral oils, wax-isomerized mineral oils, and poly-&#x3b1;-olefin base oils, and has a kinematic viscosity of 2 to 20 mm/s at 100&#xb0; C., a total aromatic content of not higher than 5 mass %, and a total sulfur content of not higher than 0.005 mass %.

A low-friction sliding member in a transmission is at least one of sliding members which are in slidable contact with each other in presence of a transmission oil composition. The low-friction sliding member includes a base material having a sliding section. A hard carbon thin film is coated at a sliding surface of the sliding section of the base material. The hard carbon thin film contains hydrogen in an amount not more than 20 atomic %. The transmission oil composition contains at least one of organic oxygen-containing compound and aliphatic amine compound.

A zinc-free lubricating composition for lubricating a continuously variable transmission is disclosed, the lubricating composition comprising a mixture of a major amount of a lubricating oil and an effective amount of a performance enhancing additive combination comprising: (a) an ashless polyisobutenyl succinimide dispersant; (b) at least one organic thioether phosphite; (c) a calcium phenate overbased detergent at a concentration such that the total amount of calcium in the fluid is less than about 500 ppm; (d) friction modifiers comprising one or more succinimides and one or more ethoxylated amines; and (e) a primary amide of a long chain carboxylic acid.

Zinc-free continuously variable transmission fluid

There is disclosed a lubricating oil composition for automatic transmissions which comprises a base oil comprising at least one oil selected from the group consisting of a mineral oil and a synthetic oil each having a specific kinematic viscosity and a % C,; (A) a non-boron based succinic acid imide (e.g. polybutenylsuccinic acid imide) and a boron based succinic acid imide each in an amount of 0.1 to 5% by weight based on the whole composition; (B) a condensation product of a branched chain fatty acid having 8 to 30 carbon atoms (e.g. isostearic acid) and an amine (e.g. tetraethylene-pentamine) in an amount of 0.05 to 2% by weight based on the same; and (C) a dialkyl hydrogenphosphite (e.g. dioleyl hydrogenphosphite) in an amount of 0.1 to 1% by weight based on the same, and optionally at least one member selected from viscosity index improvers, antioxidants, metal deactivators, defoaming agents, detergents, extreme pressure agents and rust preventives. The lubricating oil composition mentioned above is enhanced in the capacity of transmission torque, excellent in the performance of preventing shudder, and prolonged in the service lifetime of shudder prevention and capacity of transmission torque.
