The present invention related to a drug release controlling material responsive to changes in temperature comprising the polyester gel which is obtained by polymerization of a polyfunctional macromonomer represented by the general formula (I): ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, X.sup.1 represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, a cyano group, an alkyl group having from 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a phenyl group, A represents an aliphatic polyester chain, m is 0 or 1, and p, which may be the same or different in each branched chain, represents an integer of from 0 to 6, optionally with a polyethylene glycol derivative which contains polymerizable group(s) at the end(s). The drug release controlling material has an on-off control function of drug release responsive to changes in temperature depending upon the gel transition of the aliphatic polyester gel.

A polyorganosiloxane having a quaternary salt at its one terminal, of the following formula (I): ##STR1## wherein A is ##STR2## X.sup.- is a counter anion in the quaternary salt; each of R.sup.1 to R.sup.5 which may be the same or different, is an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group or a phenyl group; Y is a C.sub.1-6 linear or branched bivalent alkylene or oxyalkylene group; and n is an integer of at least 1, provided that when n is 2 or more, each of R.sup.4 and R.sup.5 may be the same or different, wherein each of R.sup.6 to R.sup.8 which may be the same or different, is an alkyl group, a substituted alkyl group or a phenyl group, or R.sup.6 to R.sup.8 together form a ring and/or an unsaturated bond; R is a C.sub.1-6 alkyl group or a phenyl group; m is an integer of from 0 to 3, provided that when m is 2 or 3, R may be the same of different; and each of R.sup.9 to R.sup.11 which may be the same or different, is a phenyl group, a benzyl group or a C.sub.1-6 alkyl group. Such polyorganosiloxane is useful for promoting percutaneous absorption of a drug.

A polymer membrane for delivering a drug is provided. The membrane is capable of regulating the delivery of the drug and comprises (A) a porous hydrophobic polymer membrane having a pore diameter of not larger than 3 .mu.m and a porosity of 10 to 90% which is immobilized with (B) a specific liquid crystal-forming compound having a gel/liquid crystal transition temperature in the range of 25.degree. to 45.degree. C.
