A plurality of p-type and n-type thermoelectric conversion layers extend between opposed heat absorption and heat release surfaces such that the layers alternate between the p-type and n-type thermoelectric conversion layers with a respective insulating layer located between each adjacent pair of thermoelectric conversion layers. A glass having a softening point of about 550&#xb0; C. to about 750&#xb0; C. is used as a glass defining the composite insulating material.

Thermoelectric conversion element, thermoelectric conversion module, method for producing thermoelectric conversion element

A thermoelectric conversion element includes a p-type metal thermoelectric conversion material containing a metal as its main constituent, an n-type oxide thermoelectric conversion material containing an oxide as its main constituent, and a composite oxide insulating material containing a composite oxide as its main constituent. The p-type metal thermoelectric conversion material and the n-type oxide thermoelectric conversion material are directly bonded in a region of a junction plane between the p-type metal thermoelectric conversion material and the n-type oxide thermoelectric conversion material, and the p-type metal thermoelectric conversion material and the n-type oxide thermoelectric conversion material are bonded to each other with the composite oxide insulating material interposed therebetween so as to define a pn conjunction pair in the other region of the junction plane. A perovskite-type oxide is used as the n-type oxide thermoelectric conversion material.

Thermoelectric conversion element, method for manufacturing same, and communication device

A compact, high-performance thermoelectric conversion module includes a laminate having a plurality of insulating layers, p-type thermoelectric semiconductors and n-type thermoelectric semiconductors formed by a technique for manufacturing a multilayer circuit board, particularly a technique for forming a via-conductor. Pairs of the p-type thermoelectric semiconductors and the n-type thermoelectric semiconductors are electrically connected to each other in series through p-n connection conductors to define thermoelectric conversion element pairs. The thermoelectric conversion element pairs are connected in series through, for example, series wiring conductors. The thermoelectric semiconductors each have a plurality of portions in which the peak temperatures of thermoelectric figures of merit are different from each other. These portions are distributed in the stacking direction of the laminate.

Thermoelectric conversion module and method for manufacturing the same

A thermoelectric conversion module which has a P-type thermoelectric conversion material and an N-type thermoelectric conversion material electrically connected to each other. The P-type thermoelectric conversion material and the N-type thermoelectric conversion material are joined with insulating material particles (ceramic spherical particles) interposed therebetween, so as not to be electrically connected to each other. The insulating material particles are joined to the P-type thermoelectric conversion material with a first adhesive material interposed therebetween and to the N-type thermoelectric conversion material with a second adhesive material interposed therebetween, and the P-type thermoelectric conversion material and the N-type thermoelectric conversion material are electrically connected to each other in a region other than the region in which the thermoelectric conversion materials are joined with the first and second adhesive material and the insulating material particles interposed therebetween.

Thermoelectric conversion module and method for manufacturing thermoelectric conversion module

A thermoelectric conversion module includes a laminated body including a plurality of thermoelectric components laminated therein. Each of the thermoelectric components includes an insulating layer, and a thermoelectric conversion element section in which a plurality of p-type thermoelectric conversion material layers and a plurality of n-type thermoelectric conversion material layers are arranged on the insulating layer in a series connection. A step eliminating insulating material layer is arranged to eliminate a step between the thermoelectric conversion element section and a vicinity thereof, in a region between the insulating layers adjacent to each other in a laminating direction, around the p-type thermoelectric conversion material layers and n-type thermoelectric conversion material layers constituting the thermoelectric conversion element section. The thermoelectric conversion element section has a serpentine shape. Thicknesses of the p-type and n-type thermoelectric conversion material layers constituting the thermoelectric conversion element section are greater than the thickness of the insulating layer.

A p-type oxide thermoelectric material which has a high output factor and a low environmental load. The thermoelectric material is composed of an oxide represented by the compositional formula (NiCu) (MnCu)Oand having a structure in which Ni elements occupying the Ni sites and/or Mn elements occupying the Mn sites are partially replaced by Cu elements, wherein 0&#x2266;x&#x2266;0.7, 0&#x2266;y&#x2266;0.7, and 0.4&#x2266;x+y. In such a thermoelectric material, preferably, 0.2&#x2266;x&#x2266;0.5 and 0.2&#x2266;y&#x2266;0.5, and preferably, the output factor at 50&#xb0; C. to 800&#xb0; C. is 10&#xd7;10W/mKor more.

Thermoelectric material

A monolithic ceramic electronic component includes a laminate including a plurality of ceramic layers obtained by sintering a ceramic raw material powder, and a plurality of internal electrodes located between the ceramic layers and obtained by sintering a metallic powder. The ceramic layers have a thickness of about 3 &mgr;m or less and are composed of ceramic grains having an average particle diameter of more than about 0.5 &mgr;m, the particle diameter of the ceramic grains in the thickness direction of the ceramic layers is smaller than the thickness of the ceramic layers, and the internal electrodes have a thickness of about 0.2 to 0.7 &mgr;m. Preferably, the monolithic ceramic electronic component further includes an external electrode formed on each of the opposing ends of the laminate, the ceramic layers are composed of a ceramic dielectric material, and each of the plurality of internal electrodes is formed with an edge being exposed to either one of the opposing ends of the laminate so as to be electrically connected to either one of the external electrodes to form a monolithic ceramic capacitor.

Monolithic ceramic electronic component

A monolithic ceramic component has inner electrodes which are thin having a thickness of from about 0.2 &mgr;m to 0.7 min, and thereby, delamination is inhibited even though ceramic layers are thin, having a thickness up to about 3 &mgr;m. The mean particle size of the ceramic grains of the ceramic layers is up to 0.5 &mgr;m, so that the concavities and convexities at the interfaces between the inner electrodes and the ceramic layers can be reduced. Preferably, metal powder in a paste used to form the inner electrodes has a mean particle size of from about 10 to 200 nm, and thereby, the metal filling ratio and the smoothness of the inner electrodes can be enhanced, and the coverage can be improved.
