According to one embodiment, a limpness detecting device includes a transmitting unit to irradiate an acoustic wave towards a conveyed sheet to excite a Lamb wave, a first receiving unit to detect a leaky wave of the Lamb wave emitted from a front surface of the sheet, a second receiving unit to detect a leaky wave of the Lamb wave emitted from a back surface of the sheet, a comparison data calculating unit to calculate comparison data based on the signal detected by the first receiving unit and the signal detected by the second receiving unit, and an intactness judgment unit to compare the comparison data calculated by the comparison data calculating unit with a preset standard value and judge whether the sheet is an intact bill or not, based on a result of the comparison.

The invention provides a neutralization apparatus which simplifies an apparatus composition, lowers an apparatus cost and removes electrical charge effectively from a ribbon-like substance which is charged by stripping, and provides a printer having the neutralization apparatus. The neutralization apparatus neutralizes an ink ribbon. The neutralization apparatus has a conductive roller which is arranged so as to contact the surface of the ink ribbon and a neutralization brush which counters the back of the ink ribbon. A balance of the electrical charge of the surface and the electrical charge of the back of the ink ribbon is broken by electrical discharge caused by the conductive roller. And thereby, the charged voltage of the electrical charge of the back of the ink ribbon becomes large and the neutralization brush remove the electrical charge charged to the back of the ink ribbon effectively.

A stiffness detector includes a bending portion configured to bend a paper sheet to be carried. The stiffness detector transmits acoustic waves to an incidence point on an inner surface of the paper sheet which is bent by the bending portion and is carried, thereby exciting Lamb waves. A stiffness detector transmits acoustic waves to a paper sheet at a predetermined angle to excite Lamb waves. A polishing apparatus includes a detachable light weight cloth cartridge which shows little deformation under uneven loading during a polishing operation. Either mechanical or non-mechanical fixation of the cloth cartridge to a turntable is achieved. Mechanical fixation involves attaching the cloth cartridge to the turntable at peripheral and center sections of the cloth cartridge. Non-mechanical fixation involves attaching the cloth cartridge to the turntable by a vacuum arrangement. This invention is directed to a cast iron having a graphite structure in an austenitic iron matrix and consisting essentially of, in weight %, at least about 1.0% and not more than about 3.5% of carbon, not more than about 1.0% of silicon, at least about 29% and not more than about 34% of nickel, at least about 4% and not more than about 8% of cobalt and the balance substantially all iron.

Spherical graphite cast iron utilized to prepare a lapping tool is manufactured by casting a molten composition into a mold cavity, and by chilling one side of the resulting casting thereby causing unidirectional solidification, the one side being used as the operating surface of the lapping tool. The molten composition consists of 3.0-3.8 wt. % of carbon, 2.0-2.9 wt. % of silicon, 0.3-0.9 wt. % of manganese, less than 0.05 wt. % of phosphorus, less than 0.03 wt. % of sulfur, 0.2-1.0 wt. % of nickel, 0-0.8 wt. % of copper, 0.05-0.5 wt. % of molybdenum, 0.03-0.09 wt. % of magnesium and the balance of iron. The lapping tool made of this casting has a percentage of sphericity of higher than 80%, graphite particle diameter of less than 100 microns, a density of graphite particles of larger than 70/mm.sup.2, and a Vickers hardness of larger than 200.
