A flat secondary battery has a laminate-type power generation element in which two or more plate-like electrodes are laminated via separators; and a pair of rectangular exterior members defined by long sides and short sides when viewed from a lamination direction of the two or more electrodes that seal the power generation element and an electrolyte solution. At least one exterior member of the pair of the rectangular exterior members comprises: an abutting part including an abutting surface that abuts against an uppermost layer electrode of the two or more electrodes; a sealing part at which the rectangular exterior members overlap each other at an outer circumferential position of the rectangular exterior members; and an extending part that extends from the abutting part to the sealing part, and the flat secondary battery satisfies 1&#x2264;LA/LB&#x2264;2.

Flat secondary battery

A flat type battery includes an exterior member housing an electrolytic solution and a power generating element. The power generating element contains electrodes alternating layered between electrolyte layers, and expands with use in a layering direction of the electrodes. The exterior member forms a tightly sealed space in which the power generating element is housed, and in which an extra space is formed between the exterior member and a side surface extending along the layering direction of the power generating element. The exterior member includes a volume adjustment portion allowing for an increase in the volume of the extra space by expanding in response to a pressure rise inside the tightly sealed space while the exterior member is being pressed against the surfaces intersecting the layering direction of the power generating element due to a pressure difference between the exterior and the interior.

Flat type battery

A flat secondary battery has a laminate-type power generation element in which two or more plate-like electrodes are laminated via each of separators; and a pair of rectangular exterior members when viewed from a lamination direction of the two or more electrodes, the rectangular exterior members sealing the laminate-type power generation element and an electrolyte solution. At least one exterior member of the pair of the rectangular exterior members comprises: an abutting part including an abutting surface that abuts against an uppermost layer electrode of the two or more electrodes; a sealing part at which the rectangular exterior members overlap each other at an outer circumferential position of the rectangular exterior members; and an extending part that extends from the abutting part to the sealing part, and the flat secondary battery satisfies: 

An object of the present invention is to provide a positive electrode material for non-aqueous electrolyte lithium-ion battery which capable of discharging high output power and inhibiting cracking of secondary particle in the cyclic endurance at a high temperature. The above object can be attained by a positive electrode material for non-aqueous electrolyte lithium-ion battery of the present invention, characterized in that said material comprises secondary particles composed of primary particles of lithium nickel composite oxide containing the primary particles having different aspect ratios, and that at least a part of said primary particles having different aspect ratios are arranged so as to make the longitudinal direction (the long side direction) thereof oriented toward the center of the secondary particle.

Positive electrode material for lithium ion battery with nonaqueous electrolyte, and battery using the same

A positive electrode material for non-aqueous electrolyte lithium ion battery () of the present invention has an oxide () containing lithium and nickel, and a lithium compound () which is deposited on a surface of the oxide () and covers nickel present on the surface of the oxide (). By this structure, it is possible to suppress decomposition of an electrolysis solution as much as possible and drastically reduce swelling of the batteries ().

Positive electrode material for non-aqueous electrolyte lithium ion battery and battery using the same

The positive electrode active material sintered body for a battery of the present invention is a positive electrode active material sintered body for a battery satisfying the following requirements (I) to (VII): (I) fine particles in a positive electrode active material are sintered to constitute the sintered body; (II) a peak pore diameter which provides a maximum differential pore volume value in a pore diameter range of 0.01 to 10 &#x3bc;m in a pore distribution is 0.3 to 5 &#x3bc;m; (III) a total pore volume is 0.1 to 1 cc/g; (IV) an average particle diameter is not less than the peak pore diameter and not more than 20 &#x3bc;m; (V) any peak, which provides a differential pore volume value of not less than 10% of the maximum differential pore volume value, is not present on a smaller pore diameter side than the peak pore diameter in the pore distribution; (VI) a BET specific surface area is 1 to 6 m/g; and (VII) a full width at half maximum of a strongest X-ray diffraction peak is 0.13 to 0.2.

Positive electrode active material sintered body for battery

The disclosure relates to bipolar cells including electrodes surrounding a collector. Embodiments of the bipolar cells include a collector containing a high-polymer material. The disclosure also relates to bipolar electrode batteries containing bipolar cells including a collector body containing electrically conductive high-polymer or electrically conductive particles distributed in a high-polymer. By adding such high molecular weight polymer material to the collector, the weight of the collector may be reduced and the output power density per weight of the battery may be improved. The disclosure further relates to methods of forming collecting bodies and electrodes for bipolar cells using an inkjet printing method. Bipolar cells according to the present invention may be used to fabricate batteries such as lithium ion batteries, which may be connected to form battery modules used, for example, to provide electrical power for a motor vehicle.

The burned composite metal oxide of the present invention is a burned composite metal oxide which is porous and particulate and which is obtained by subjecting a slurry comprising at least one metal oxide (a), at least one metal compound (b) and a solvent to spray granulation to obtain granules, and burning the granules, the metal oxide (a) selected from the group consisting of a transition metal oxide and an oxide of a metal belonging to 3B, 4B and 5B of a periodic table, the metal compound (b) selected from the group consisting of an alkali metal compound and an alkali earth metal compound, wherein the metal oxide (a) and the metal compound (b) are sparingly soluble in the solvent; the burning is conducted after a heat-maintaining step of heating the granules obtained by the spray granulation at a temperature in a range of &#xb1;200&#xb0; C. based on the decomposition temperature of the metal compound (b); and the metal compound (b) contains at least a nonmetallic element component desorbed in the heat-maintaining step.

The present invention provides a composite material for positive electrodes of lithium batteries, which provides a lithium battery having excellent high rate electrical discharge characteristics, has a sufficiently secured diffusion passage for Li, and has high conductivity, a process for producing the same, as well as a positive electrode and a battery using the composite material for positive electrodes of lithium batteries. The present invention relates to a composite material for positive electrodes of lithium batteries, comprising composite particles containing positive electrode active material particles and fibrous carbons, wherein the composite particles have a form in which the positive electrode active material particles are supported by the fibrous carbons.

Composite positive electrode material for lithium ion battery and battery using the same

A method for preparing an electrode in which droplets of a first electrode ink composition and droplets of a second electrode ink composition are ejected from an ink jet device onto a base material.
