A method of automatically inserting terminals with wires into desired terminal accommodating cavities in a connector housing after putting neighboring wires aside, and a wire sweeping arm and a driving device for the sweeping arm. The method includes the steps of: grasping the terminal with wire by terminal supporting hands and wire supporting hands; moving the wire sweeping arm in the direction that the wire sweeping arm sweep wires which are already accommodated in neighboring terminal accommodating cavities, the wire sweeping arm being disposed between the terminal accommodating cavities and the terminal supporting hands so as to move back and forth; moving the wire supporting hands and the terminal supporting hands toward the connector housing to insert the terminal with wire into the terminal accommodating cavity.

Apparatus for inserting terminal with wire and driving a wire sweeping arm

A terminal inserting guide assembly includes a pair of guide hooks for guiding a terminal into a connector housing. A first upper guiding surface is formed at an upper end of a cut-out portion inside a first one of the pair of guide hooks. A terminal side guiding projection is formed in a second one of the pair of guide hooks. A second upper guiding surface is formed in the tapered extending portion. The terminal side guiding projection and the tapered extending portion are received in the cut-out portion of the first one of guide hooks, when the pair of guide hooks are closed, in their lateral direction, without a terminal.

A terminal insertion apparatus includes a terminal insertion head having a pair of wire catching hands and a terminal guiding piece and being movable along a Y-axis beam by servo drive, a high speed transfer belt having an electric wire clamp and being movable in the X-axis direction by servo drive, and a terminal posture correcting device having a pair of chuck pieces for chucking the terminal of a terminal end on the wire clamp and delivering it to the wire catching hands and a terminal holder and being movable by servo drive in a direction in parallel to that of the high speed transfer belt. Using the terminal insertion apparatus, the posture of the terminal is corrected two-dimensionally, and the terminal is inserted into a connector housing along the terminal guide pieces. The chuck pieces which is apart from a terminal at a certain position advances to pass the terminal therebetween, chuck the terminal, and retreat to cause the terminal to abut on a terminal stopping step. The terminal holder advances to abut on the terminal. In order that the terminal hits on the center of a guide face, the terminal is held in its inclined state, or the height of an insertion head is adjusted. Thus, the posture of the terminal can be surely corrected and the terminal can be surely inserted into a connector.

A pair of terminal grasping picks and a pair of wire clamping plates, which are provided in an insertion unit so that they can freely rise/fall and open/close, fall to grasp a first wire-equipped terminal clipped on a clip of a wire clamping rod; rise to separate the first wire-equipped terminal from the wire clip; advance toward the housing to insert the first wire-equipped terminal into the corresponding terminal container; and thereafter retreated and returned to an initial position, thereby successively inserting wire-equipped terminals. At any timing during the process in which the wire-equipped terminal is separated from the clip and thereafter the insertion unit is retreated and returned, either one of the wire clamping rod and the connector housing is moved in parallel to the other so that a second wire-equipped terminal or the clip is previously positioned oppositely to the a next terminal container of the housing.

Method of inserting terminals into housing with special arrangement

Both terminal ends of each of terminal-equipped wires held by clips are simultaneously picked out by a pair of terminal insertion heads individually driven and moved simultaneously moved. Thus, a short terminal-equipped wire can be inserted into different connector housing. In a terminal insertion apparatus comprising a Y-axis beam having a terminal insertion head and moving along a pair of X-axis beams, a pair of driving motors are provided at both ends of said Y-axis beam and are driven synchronously to move said Y-axis beam. Thus, the Y-axis beam is prevented from being vibrated, thereby assuring terminal insertion.

A method of inserting terminal in which a problem that time for search varies with relative position between the wires and the connector is eliminated, and the position of the connector housing can flexibly be determined. Terminal insertion methods for preventing a terminal and a connector housing from being broken in the event that a secondary insertion fails. The distance from a rear end of a terminal to secondary insertion claws, which are behind primary insertion claws, is set approximately to the required insertion stroke. When the terminal interferes with the connector housing during the secondary insertion process, a wire between the rear end of the terminal and the rear insertion claws is made to buckle to release an overload acting on the terminal and connector housing. A primary chuck cylinder for the front insertion claws is connected to a rod of a primary insertion cylinder; the primary chuck cylinder is secured to a guide plate; a secondary insertion cylinder 10 is secured to the guide plate; and a secondary chuck cylinder for the rear insertion claws is connected to a rod of the secondary insertion cylinder. In the terminal insertion apparatus of the above construction, the pressure of the primary insertion cylinder is set smaller than that of the secondary insertion cylinder so as to release the overload, which is produced when the terminal interferes with the connector housing during the secondary insertion process, to the primary insertion cylinder.

Arm assembly for sweeping neighboring wires of already inserted terminal

A terminal insertion guide includes a pair of one and another guide arms; and an upper guide wall located between said pair of guide arms and having a surface sloped downward for a terminal wherein the terminal is passed between the pair of guide arms and the upper guide wall to be guided into a terminal chamber of a connector housing. One or both of the pair of guide arms having a plurality of guide strips inclined upward for the upper guide wall. Thus, the terminal, even when inclined downward, can be surely guided into the terminal chamber of a connector housing.

Terminal insertion guide

The present invention provides a terminal insertion device in which a wired terminal can be securely taken out without abutting against the guide arms in case the insertion is imperfectly done, and also the guide arms can be shifted upwardly without being entangled with other leading wires 6b after the perfect insertion is detected. The terminal insertion device comprises a monolithic plate 5 on which holding hands 3 and 4 for clamping a wired terminal 6 and a pair of lead wire guide arms 2, 2 for guiding the wired terminal into a connector housing, and the monolithic plate 5 can be moved in the horizontal and vertical directions respectively by a driving means 24 and 26, wherein a front wall 7 of the plate 5 is formed with a first open-close cylinder 10, whereas first and second open-close cylinders 13 and 14 are formed on a junction plate 9 which is engaged with a side wall 8 of the plate 5 in the forwardly and rearwardly movable manner, and a horizontal cylinder 24 disposed on a frame board is further connected wit the side wall. With the construction above, the holding arms and the pair of guide arms are urged integrally backward on checking the inserted state of the terminal, and they are shifted backwardly to be located behind leading wires of other wired terminals extended from the connector housing, and sent upward thereafter.

Method for inserting wire-equipped terminal in connector housing

The invention relates to a terminal carrier chipper for chipping a terminal carrier that couples a plurality of terminals in concatenation during the process of fabricating a wire harness used in electrical circuits. The object of the invention is to provide a terminal carrier chipper in simple structure, which is less vibrating and noisy and whose blade section exhibits an improved durability. The terminal carrier chipper according to the present invention includes: a fixed blade 3; a moving blade lever 9; and a rotating cam 5. The moving blade lever 9 is oscillated around a support shaft 10 by rotating the cam 5 while causing a projection 5a of the cam 5 to come in contact with a cam guide 11 arranged on the moving blade lever, so that a blade edge 9c of the moving blade lever nears and leaves a blade edge 3a of the fixed blade 3 to thereby chip a terminal carrier T.

This invention provides a terminal insertion apparatus which enables a wired terminal to be inserted reliably and smoothly into a connector housing. The apparatus comprises comprises terminal guide arms (3, 3') that guide the wired terminal (4) toward the connector housing (15) and front wire gripping hands (6, 6) that push the wired terminal (4) into the connector housing (15). The terminal guide arms (3, 3') are provided with large terminal guiding chamfers (2). The front wire gripping hands (6, 6) are formed with protrusions (5) that hold the wire and can be advanced between the terminal guiding chamfers (2). The longitudinal length of the protrusions (5) is made smaller than the depth of the terminal guiding chamfers (2), and the lateral width of the protrusions (5) is set smaller than the lateral width of the terminal guiding chamfers (2).
