A laminate of optical elements comprises a transparent first optical element, a second optical element, and a transparent pressure-sensitive adhesive layer for bonding the first optical element to the second optical element. The pressure-sensitive adhesive layer comprises a base adhesive zone, a transparent refractive index-adjusting zone. The base adhesive zone is made essentially of a transparent base pressure-sensitive adhesive material and formed over a given range from a first principal surface of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer facing the first optical element, in a thickness direction of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer. The a transparent, adherent, refractive index-adjusting zone is formed over a given range from a second principal surface of the pressure-sensitive adhesive layer facing the second optical element.

There is provided a circularly polarizing plate for an organic EL display apparatus, which has an excellent antireflection function and has an excellent organic EL panel-protecting function. A circularly polarizing plate according to the present invention is used in an organic EL display apparatus. The circularly polarizing plate includes in this order: a polarizer; a retardation layer functioning as a &#x3bb;/4 plate; a barrier layer; and a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer having a barrier function. There is provided an optical laminate capable of toeing suitably applied even to an organic EL display apparatus that is extremely thin and is bendable or foldable. An optical laminate according to an embodiment of the present invention is used for an organic electroluminescence display apparatus. The optical laminate includes in this order: a surface protective layer; a polarizer; and an optical compensation layer. The surface protective layer is flexible, has a function of substituting for a cover glass for an organic electroluminescence display apparatus, and functions as a protective layer for the polarizer.

An under cladding layer is formed on the front surface of a colored-layer-coated PET substrate including a PET substrate portion and a colored layer of a color that absorbs irradiation light and formed on the back surface of the PET substrate portion, and then a photosensitive resin layer for the formation of cores is formed thereon. In forming the cores, when the irradiation light reaches the bottom surface of the PET substrate portion, most of the irradiation light is absorbed by the colored layer, so that there is little irradiation light reflected from the bottom surface of the PET substrate portion. This significantly reduces the irradiation light reflected diffusely from the PET substrate portion and reaching the photosensitive resin layer to thereby effectively suppress the surface roughening of the side surfaces of the cores.

A laminate of a film element () and a board () is prepared. The film element () includes at least one future optical waveguide portion. The board () is stacked on the film element (). The laminate is die-cut from the side of the board (). This provides an optical waveguide device including the die-cut board () and an optical waveguide formed thereon. A cutting die used for the die-cutting includes at least blades () for forming the light receiving end surface () and the light emitting end surface () of the optical waveguide. The blades () are flat blades including blade surfaces having an arithmetic means roughness (Ra) of less than 0.02 &#x3bc;m.

Method of manufacturing optical waveguide device

An optical waveguide device is provided which is capable of reducing light propagation losses in the cores of an optical waveguide when the optical waveguide is formed on a surface of a substrate, regardless of the type of substrate. A photosensitive resin layer (A) for over cladding layer formation is made of a photosensitive resin composition of a non-solvent type, and is heated prior to the exposure thereof to light. This causes interface portions between the cores () and the photosensitive resin layer (A) to be formed into mixed layers (). This reduces light propagation losses.
