The present invention provides an anti-plant virus agent which exhibits preventative and therapeutic effects on plant virus diseases. The anti-plant virus agent of the present invention is characterized by containing at least one compound selected from the group consisting of ascorbic acid derivatives represented by Formula (I) (wherein, Rto Reach independently represents a hydrogen atom, &#x2014;SOH, &#x2014;POH, a glycosyl group, or &#x2014;COR, wherein Rrepresents an unsubstituted or substituted C1-30 alkyl group, or an unsubstituted or substituted C2-30 alkenyl group, with the proviso that Rto Rmay not all be hydrogen atoms at the same time), and salts thereof. 

Anti-plant-virus agent

A compound having inhibitory activity on the binding of a substance &#x3b1; to a PTGS suppressor protein, wherein the substance &#x3b1; has a property of inducing PTGS and a property of binding to the PTGS suppressor protein and shows a decrease in the property of inducing PTGS upon binding to the PTGS suppressor protein.

Antiviral agent

Protoporphyrinogen oxidase having an activity of imparting acifluorfen resistance and gene thereof are provided. Cyanobacterium protoporphyrinogen oxidase gene is identified by introducing a protoporphyrinogen oxidase gene ofinto cyanobacterium, disrupting a cyanobacterium gene with a transposon, selecting a mutant strain in which protoporphyrinogen oxidase gene is disrupted, identifying the disrupted protoporphyrinogen oxidase gene, and isolating the disrupted protoporphyrinogen oxidase gene. This procedure is effective as a gene isolation technique when a protein derived from other organism species that is homologous to a known protein (e.g., protoporphyrinogen oxidase from cyanobacterium) can not be found in a gene database of the other species.
