A processor inputs/outputs data related to data input/output with respect to the volume to/from a page of the logical storage area; maps the volume to data of the logical storage area; is able to release the storage area in units of the pages; includes a plurality of the volumes that can share data of the logical storage area; performs garbage collection of deleting data which is not referred to from any of the plurality of volumes as invalid data, moving data which is referred to from any of the volumes to another page, and releasing a storage area of a page on which the data is deleted and the data is moved; and stores a plurality of pieces of data in the page of a movement destination such that the plurality of pieces of data stored in the same page is mapped from a same volume by the garbage collection.

Storage system

The operational performance and the I/O performance of Snapshots in a storage system are balanced. In a storage system, meta information of data appended to a log structured area is composed of meta information of a first tier and meta information of a second tier which correlate location information of data in a logical volume and location information of data in the log structured area. When creating a snapshot of the logical volume, a data management unit creates, in the same meta information area as a replication source, a replication of the meta information of the first tier stored in a plurality of meta information areas assigned to a plurality of controllers. A data control unit accesses the data of the log structured area from the logical volume, and accesses the data of the log structured area from the snapshot.

Storage system and data replication method in storage system

A first node performs copy (virtual copy) of address mapping between a virtual volume and a pool to a first virtual volume to create a third virtual volume in the first node. A second node performs mapping from a first pool volume in the second node to the third virtual volume in the first node, links an address of the first pool volume, which is mapped to the third virtual volume, to an address of a second virtual volume in the second node on a one-to-one basis, and performs log-structured write of the data in the second virtual volume to a second pool volume in the second node.

A first storage system compresses data relating to read and write by a primary site and stores the data in a first physical volume. A second storage system compresses data relating to read and write by a secondary site and stores the data in a second physical volume. In a storage system, processing related to data replication includes associating first control information with a logical volume and a snapshot and second control information with data on a pool volume. Data of the logical volume and the snapshot is managed by associating the first control information with the second control information. A time series of the logical volume and one or more snapshots is managed using generation information associated with the first control information, for each piece of data on the pool volume. Generation information indicating a generation in which the data is created is managed in association with the second control information. Invalidation of the first and second control information asynchronously with a processing of data related to the logical volume and the snapshot is executed. Whether the invalidation is possible is determined by referring to the generation information associated with the first and second control information.

An object of the invention is to reduce a data transfer amount between storage systems. Provided is a storage system connected to another storage system via a network. The storage system includes a memory, a processor configured to execute a program stored in the memory, and a storage device. By executing the program, the processor provides a virtual volume, generates a plurality of snapshots at different timings for the virtual volume, holds a base snapshot, which is a reference snapshot among the plurality of snapshots, in the storage device, and transmits difference data indicating a difference between a snapshot generated after the base snapshot and a snapshot generated immediately before the snapshot to the other storage system and holds the difference data in the other storage system.

A storage system includes a storage controller, plural volumes each configured by the storage controller, and a pool allocating physical storage areas to logical storage areas of the volumes. The storage controller configures a first group including, among the volumes, a first primary volume to which a first target protection period is set, and a first history information volume storing history information about updating to the first primary volume, and a second group including, thereamong, a second primary volume to which a second target protection period is set, and a second history information volume storing history information about updating to the second primary volume. To prevent an excessive increase of a dirty data amount in a cache memory. A processor acquires storage device information from each of storage devices. When receiving a write request to a first storage device group from a higher-level apparatus, the processor determines whether a write destination cache area corresponding to a write destination address indicated by the write request is reserved. When determining that the write destination cache area is not reserved, the processor performs, on the basis of the storage device information and cache information, reservation determination for determining whether to reserve the write destination cache area. When determining to reserve the write destination cache area, the processor reserves the write destination cache area.
