A cushion for a seat of good appearance. The cushion for a seat comprises a three-dimensional cover constituted of a front surface portion, a substantially U-shaped rear surface portion arranged oppositely to the front surface portion while spaced apart therefrom, a circumferential surface portion arranged between the front surface portion and the rear surface portion while connecting at the edge thereof with the edge of the front surface portion and the edge of the rear surface portion, a stripe portion extending downward from the upper edge of an opening in the rear surface portion to close the opening, a first pair of teeth tapes fixed to the opposite side edges of the stripe portion, and a second pair of teeth tapes provided at the opposite side edges of the circumferential surface portion corresponding, in position, to the opposite side edges of the stripe portion and engaging with or disengaging from the first pair of teeth tapes so that the opening is closed or opened by the stripe portion, and a foamed resin pad molded integrally with each component of the cover, excluding the stripe portion, in the cover.

A method for forming a foamed product integral with a sheet of covering material utilizing a forming apparatus which comprises a first die, a second die housed within the first die and having air-ventilating holes, and a third die adapted to be combined with the first die, to thereby provide a forming cavity between the second die and the third die, the method comprising the steps of preparing a three-dimensional, air-permeable trim cover having a two layer structure comprising a layer of foamed material and a sheet of covering material laminated with the foamed material layer, putting the trim cover on the second die such that the sheet of covering material is facing the second die, applying vacuum to the trim cover through the air-ventilating holes of the second die to draw the trim cover onto the second die, causing the third die to be combined with the first die to define the forming cavity in cooperation with the first die, thereafter stopping the applying of the vacuum to the trim cover, and pouring expandable resins into the forming cavity and causing the expandable resins to foam to thereby form a cushioned padding integral with the trim cover, while applying compressed-air to the first die as pressure within the forming cavity rises due to gas generated by the foaming of the resins, the compressed-air balancing the gas in pressure.

Method for forming a foamed product integral with a sheet of covering material

A cushion for a seat, including a foam padding integral with a three-dimensional cover covering the padding, the three-dimensional cover including a first piece, a second piece spaced apart from the first piece and facing the first piece, the second piece having first and second spaced apart sections, and a connecting section adjacent one ends of the first and second sections and interconnecting the first and second spaced apart sections, a peripheral piece disposed between the first and second pieces, extending along peripheral edges of the first and second pieces except an edge of one side of each of the first and second pieces, and attached at edges thereof to the peripheral edges of the first and second pieces, an intermediate piece attached at an edge of one side thereof to an edge of the connecting section of the second piece between the first and second sections so as to be disposed between the first and second sections, a third piece attached at an edge of one side thereof to the edge of the side of the first piece, slide fastener devices attached to edges of both free sides of the intermediate piece and inner side edges of the first and second sections for coupling and uncoupling the intermediate piece to the first and second sections of the second piece, the padding being integrated with pieces of the cover except the intermediate piece and the third piece, a first engaging device attached to a free end of the third piece, a second engaging device attached to a free end of the intermediate piece, and third engaging devices attached to free ends of the first and second sections of the second piece.
