An information recording medium having a front surface and a back surface has a first color developing layer, a second color developing layer and a third color developing layer. According to one embodiment, a laser recording device performs recording by irradiating a recording medium with laser light. The recording medium includes thermal recording layers including thermal materials with different color development threshold temperatures and stacked in an ascending order of the threshold temperatures of the included thermal materials from a surface irradiated with the laser light; and an intermediate layer provided between the thermal recording layers to perform thermal insulation and thermal conduction. The laser recording device includes a controller. The controller sets a power density of the laser light and an irradiation time and performs recording on the thermal recording layers by controlling irradiation with the laser light. The power density is relatively higher at recording of any of the thermal recording layers with a higher threshold temperature. The irradiation time is effectively longer at recording of any of the thermal recording layers with a lower threshold temperature.

A stiffness detector transmits acoustic waves to a paper sheet at a predetermined angle to excite Lamb waves. The stiffness detector receives leaky waves of the Lamb waves propagated through the paper sheet at different angles with respect to the paper sheet by a plurality of reception sensors. The stiffness detector is configured to specify a maximum leak angle at which a leak amount of the acoustic waves from the paper sheet becomes maximum based on outputs from the plurality of reception sensors in the reception module and to judge a degree of fatigue of the paper sheet based on the specified maximum leak angle.

An inspection apparatus includes a light source unit which irradiates illumination light onto a hologram of a medium from a predetermined direction at which diffraction light from the hologram is obtained, a first light receiving member which receives the diffraction light from the hologram, a second light receiving member which receives transmitted part of illumination light irradiated onto the hologram, having passed through the medium, and an identification processing unit which identifies authenticity of the hologram from the diffraction light received by the first light receiving member and identifies a defect of the hologram from the transmitted light received by the second light receiving member.
