A plasma display panel capable of increasing a luminous efficiency while decreasing discharge firing voltage while easily generating an address discharge by generating a sustain discharge as facing discharge. The discharge sustain electrodes are on barrier ribs between the two substrates. One of the sustain discharge electrodes extends between discharge cells and the other extends through discharge cells dividing discharge cells into two portions. Each discharge sustain electrode is surrounded by a dielectric material and also a non-transparent MgO protective layer. These electrodes are formed to be tall and narrow to allow for superior facing discharge potential.

Design for a plasma display panel that provides improved luminance-efficiency and allows for a lower voltage to initiate discharge

The invention provides a plasma display panel having improved luminous efficiency. The improved luminous efficiency may result in part from at least the configuration and/or arrangement of facing sustain and scan electrodes. In one embodiment, the electrodes may have concave portions that are selectively formed at locators where the electrodes intersect barrier ribs that separate adjacent discharge cells of different colors. This configuration may reduce the charge distribution around the portions where the concave are formed, and may also prevent erroneous discharge from being transferred to adjacent discharge cells. The principles of the invention may be used to produce or light density PDP that increases luminous efficiency and decreases a discharge firing voltage.

Plasma display panel having specific electrode structure

A plasma display panel includes a first substrate and a second substrate provided opposing one another with a predetermined gap therebetween. A plurality of barrier ribs are mounted in the gap between the first and second substrates to define a plurality of discharge cells. Plasma display panel and manufacturing method of the same

Barrier ribs positioned between the first substrate and the second substrate form a plurality of polyhedral discharge cells. Plasma display panel provided with display electrodes within barrier ribs

A PDP having an opposing electrode structure including first and second substrates facing each other. A space between the first and second substrates is divided into discharge cells. Address electrodes extend in a first direction between the first and second substrates, and first and second electrodes extend in a second direction intersecting the first direction while being spaced apart from the address electrodes. At least one of the address electrodes or the first and second electrodes has a protruding portion that protrudes toward the center of each discharge cell. The protruding portions help reduce the discharge gap which in turn reduces the discharge firing voltage. Expansion portions formed as parts of the first and second electrodes increase the discharge gap used by the sustain discharge and lead to an improved luminescence efficiency.

Plasma display panel

A plasma display device, which is capable of improving a discharge efficiency of a plasma display panel by increasing a partial pressure of Xe. When the partial pressure of Xe is increased, a proportion of (Xe&#x2014;Xe)* dimer emitting a 147 resonance line is higher than that of Xe* monomer emitting a 173 nm molecular beam. Particularly, when the partial pressure of Xe is above 10%, the discharge efficiency is improved by setting a frequency of a sustain discharge pulse applied to scan electrodes and sustain electrodes alternately during sustain period above 300 kHz.

A method for driving a plasma display panel. A discharge occurs at a selected discharge cell by scan and address pulses to form wall charges in an address period. A setup pulse is applied to a scan electrode in a sustain period. A discharge occurs between sustain and scan electrodes by a wall voltage of the sustain and scan electrodes and a voltage of the setup pulse when the setup pulse is applied. A self discharge occurs between the sustain and scan electrodes when the setup pulse falls, to form space charges. A sustain pulse is applied to the sustain and scan electrodes, and a sustain occurs by the space charges and the sustain pulse.

Plasma display panel and driving method thereof

A plasma display panel includes a first substrate, and a second substrate provided opposing the first substrate and defining a plurality of discharge cells between the first and second substrates. Phosphor layers are respectively formed in the discharge cells. Address electrodes are formed along a first direction on the first substrate, and first and second electrodes are formed adjacent to the first substrate and separated from the address electrodes. The first and second electrodes extend along a second direction that intersects the first direction, and the first and second electrodes are provided corresponding to each of the discharge cells. The first and second electrodes are formed extended in a direction away from the first substrate and toward the second substrate, and opposing each other with a spacing provided therebetween. The first and second electrodes include protrusions that extend toward centers of the discharge cells.

A PDP driving method. A first sustain discharge pulse is applied to a Y electrode of the PDP during a sustain period, and a stabilization pulse is applied to the Y electrode before a second sustain discharge pulse is applied to the X electrode. Accordingly, amounts of wall charges and space charges after the first sustain discharge are controlled, and the second and subsequent sustain discharges are stably generated.

Plasma display panel (PDP)

The invention provides a plasma display panel having an opposed discharge configuration that can improve luminous efficiency while reducing a discharge firing voltage. The PDP may include a first substrate separated from an opposing second substrate by a predetermined interval. A plurality of discharge cells may be defined between the substrates within this interval. Address electrodes having protrusions that protrude toward the inside of each discharge cell may extend on the first substrate along a first direction. First electrodes may be arranged on both sides of the discharge cell along a second direction crossing the first direction and may be spaced from the address electrode between the first substrate and the second substrate. Second electrodes arranged between and substantially parallel the first electrodes may pass through each discharge cell. The first and second electrodes may project away from the first substrate and in a direction toward the second substrate.

A plasma display panel includes first and second substrates, address electrodes formed on the first substrate, display electrodes formed on the second substrate, barrier ribs formed between the first and second substrates to define discharge cells, each of which acts as a subpixel, and phosphor layers deposited in the discharge cells to form red, green, and blue subpixels. The ends of each subpixel have a first width, and a center area of each subpixel has a center width. The center area of one of the red, green, or blue subpixels is formed having a second width that is smaller than the first width, and the center area of another one of the red, green, or blue subpixels is formed having a third width that is larger than the first width.
