The starter-use electromagnetic switch has an electrical contact interposed in a power supply line for supplying power from a battery to a starter motor, the main contact being turned on and off in interlock with energization of an electromagnet implemented by an excitation coil. The electromagnetic switch includes a connection fitting connected to the excitation coil at one end thereof and drawn outside through a resin cover of the electromagnetic switch at the other end thereof, and a terminal fitting electrically and mechanically connected to the other end of the connection fitting at one end thereof, the other end of the terminal fitting being branched into first and second terminal pieces. The first terminal piece serves as an excitation terminal supplied with power from the battery. The second terminal piece serves as a connection terminal connected to an excitation terminal of an external electromagnetic switch through a cable.

Starter-use electromagnetic switch

There is disclosed a switching apparatus for a starter comprising a resistor for suppressing a startup current of a motor when an engine is started, an electromagnetic relay for bypassing the resistor to energize the motor after the motor is started, a function for pushing a pinion of the starter toward a ring gear, an electromagnetic switch for opening and closing a main contact of the motor circuit. The resistor, the electromagnetic relay, and the electromagnetic switch are integrally accommodated inside a housing formed of a metallic bottomed frame and a contact cover, and are connected to the motor circuit via two external connection terminals fixed to the contact cover. The apparatus can facilitate connectivity to the vehicle side by reducing the number of cables and can enhance an installation property.

Switching apparatus for starter

The electromagnetic switch includes an excitation coil serving as an electromagnet when energized, a fixed core magnetized by the electromagnet, a movable core configured to move by being attracted by the fixed core being magnetized, a pair of fixed contacts interposed in an electrical circuit, and a movable contact configured to move in accordance with movement of the movable core to make and break electrical connection between the fixed contacts. The electromagnetic switch further includes a stopper for restraining movement of the movable core for preventing short-circuit between the fixed contacts through the movable core due to abrasion of members of the electromagnetic switch.

Electromagnetic switch

An electromagnetic switch operative to close and open an electrical contact arrangement to thereby turn on and off an electrical current flowing through an electrical circuit. A movable iron core includes a shaft insertion hole that extends in an axial direction of the movable iron core and has an opening in an end face of the movable iron core axially opposing a movable contact of the electrical contact arrangement. The hole includes a step disposed at a position along the depth, a shaft fixture section on a bottom side of the step, and a shaft guide section on an opening side of the step. An inside diameter of the shaft fixture section is smaller than an inside diameter of the shaft guide section. One axial end side portion of the shaft is press fit in the shaft fixture section.

There is an electromagnetic switch for a starter includes a first and second electromagnet and a frame and a cover. The first and second electromagnets are set alongside in the frame. The first and second electromagnets are configured to change a position with respect to the cover by rotating about the axis with respect to the frame.

Electromagnetic switch with two electromagnets

A starter for cranking an internal combustion engine includes an electric motor for driving a pinion gear of the starter. The rear end of the electric motor is covered with a rear end frame having a bearing holder formed thereon. To protect the bearing holder from external force applied to the rear end frame, a rear end cover having an upper plate is connected to the rear end frame. The upper plate of the rear end cover is positioned to form a certain space between the rear end frame and the upper plate. The rear end cover may be connected to the rear end frame by utilizing bolt heads of a pair of through-bolts fastening the electric motor to a front housing and the rear end frame.

A starter for an engine, having a ring gear includes an output shaft for slidably holding a pinion gear engageable with the ring gear, a housing having an opening portion that enables the pinion gear to engage with the ring gear when the pinion gear advances, a cover having a shutter, a front wall and a side wall for sliding together with the pinion gear. The shutter opens the opening portion when the pinion gear advances and shuts the most part of the opening portion when the pinion gear retracts. The front wall is provided to cover at least half of a front portion, which faces to the ring gear, of the pinion gear. The side wall is extended from the front wall in a direction parallel to an axis of the output shaft to cover at least half of the gear tooth periphery in a circumferential direction of the pinion gear. When water carried by the rotating ring gear comes to the opening portion when the pinion gear rotates with the ring gear, most of such water is blocked by the gear tooth. Furthermore, the rest of water is blocked by small gaps between the pinion gear and the cover. When the pinion gear is disengaged from the ring gear, the shutter closes most of the opening portion. Therefore, most of water carried by the rotating gear is blocked by the shutter. Even if water enters inside of the housing through a small gap between the opening portion and the shutter, water is blocked by small gaps between the pinion gear and the cover.
