A scroll-type compressor having a fixed scroll and a revolving scroll, wherein a portion of either the end plate of the fixed scroll or the top plate above the fixed scroll has annular grooves formed therein, allowing elastic deformation of either the end plate or the top plate in a thrust direction, thus preventing gaps between the spiral wraps of both scrolls.

An object of the present invention is to decrease the diameter of end plate of a fixed scroll and the diameter of orbiting locus circle of an orbiting scroll, by which the inside diameter of a housing is reduced, thereby the apparatus being made compact. The constitution is such that the center P of the end plate 211 of the fixed scroll 21 lies on the straight line D starting at the wrap end point T of the outermost end of the spiral wrap 212 and passing through the involute unrolled angle position C of the base circle A and at the position shifting one-half the orbiting radius a in the direction reverse to the outermost wrap end of the spiral wrap 212.

A scroll type fluid machinery has a stationary scroll and revolving scroll with spiral elements set up at end plates thereof. The scrolls respectively, are engaged with each other, and a high pressure fluid chamber is formed on the outside of the end plate of the stationary scroll. A low pressure fluid chamber or an intermediate pressure fluid chamber is formed between the end plate of the stationary scroll and the high pressure fluid chamber. As a result, the pressure of a low pressure fluid or an intermediate pressure fluid acts on the outside of the end plate of the stationary scroll. Accordingly, deformation of the end plate is prevented or reduced, and reliability of the fluid machinery may be improved.

A scroll type fluid machinery with spiral wraps set up on inner surfaces of end plates, respectively. The spiral wraps are engaged with each other at a predetermined angle dislocation and are housed in a housing with an opening in one end of a cup-shaped casing. This opening is blocked with a front case. The stationary scroll is fixed to the cup-shaped casing, and the revolving scroll is made to revolve in a solar motion by a revolution drive mechanism while checking the rotation on its axis by a mechanism for checking rotation on its axis. In an assembling method thereof, positioning portions are engaged with a positioning jig provided in the stationary scroll and the cup-shaped casing, respectively, and the positioning portions are utilized. With this machinery and method, the number of parts, working time and assembly time are reduced and the manufacturing cost may be cut down.

A scroll type fluid machinery has a stationary scroll and a revolving scroll in which spiral wraps are set up at end plates, and are engaged with each other. A drive bushing is fitted rotatably into a boss projected at the central part of the outer surface of the end plate of the revolving scroll, and a drive pin projecting from the rotary shaft is fitted slidably into a slide hole bored in the drive bushing. A counter weight which generates a centrifugal force having an opposite direction to a centrifugal force acting on the revolving scroll at the time of revolving motion in a solar motion thereof is provided on the drive bushing. Further, the contact pressure between the wrap of the revolving scroll and the wrap of the stationary scroll is prevented from becoming excessive even at the time of high speed rotation of the rotary shaft.

A scroll type compressor has bypass ports which communicate with the compression chambers. The bypass ports are bored in an end plate of a stationary scroll. A capacity control block is contained inside a bypass passage which has the bypass ports communicate with a suction chamber formed in a housing. A valve mechanism which opens and closes the bypass passage is formed separately from the stationary scroll. The capacity control block is engaged with the stationary scroll and installed fixedly in the housing, thereby to control the output capacity of the compressor in a range from 0% to 100%.

A compressor is composed of a housing equipped with a compression mechanism portion and a cover body having a fitting portion. The housing has a suction cavity communicating with a suction chamber and a discharge cavity communicating with a discharge chamber on a peripheral surface thereof. The suction cavity and the discharge cavity are closed up tightly by fitting the cover body to the housing, and the fitting portion is made to communicate with the suction cavity and the discharge cavity, respectively.

A scroll type fluid machinery has a stationary scroll and a revolving scroll having spiral wraps set up on inner surfaces of respective end plates in engagement with each other. A drive bushing is inserted rotatably into a boss which is projected at a central part of an outer surface of the end plate of the revolving scroll. An eccentric driving pin of a rotary shaft is fitted slidably into a slide groove bored through the drive bushing. A gap between one end of the slide groove in a direction that the radius of revolution becomes larger and the eccentric driving pin is set to a preset very small distance .delta. (here, .delta. is a value determined based on processing error, deformation due to temperature and pressure and the like of the above-mentioned respective scrolls) when the revolving scroll occupies a position of theoretical radius of revolution thereof. With this, it is possible to prevent the drive bushing from tiltably rotating beyond what has been predetermined while the revolving scroll is revolving.

A rotary compressor is disclosed which is equipped with a bypass hole for bypassing a fluid under compression to the intake side and the capacity thereof is controlled through opening and closing of the bypass hole with a piston which is operated via a control valve, whereby the bypass hole is opened at or in the vicinity of a discharge port of the compressor and the capacity of the compressor is made to be controllable in the range of one hundred to substantially zero percent. By the application of such a rotary compressor to the compressor for an air conditioner, capacity control in the range of about zero to 100% of discharge quantity can be accomplished so that it becomes possible to obtain cooling capability which is in response to the heat load.

A compressor, e.g., a scroll type compressor for a heat pump including a bypass passage by way of which the high pressure side of the compressor is communicated with a compression chamber in which a compression stroke is carried out is disclosed. The compressor further includes opening/closing means so that when it is required that the compressor is operated at a high efficiency, the bypass passage is closed and when it is required that the compressor is operated with a high level of ability, the bypass passage is opened so as to allow high pressure gas to be introduced into the compression chamber in which a compression stroke is carried out whereby the gas is compressed again.

A scroll-type fluid machine includes a stationary spiral element and a revolving spiral element having a substantially identical configuration and a central small chamber defined between abutting points of both the spiral elements a volume of which is adapted to be reduced to substantially zero with relative rotation of both the spiral elements. Basically, each of the both spiral elements is formed of an outer curve segment and an inner curve segment formed of involute curves and a connection inner curve expressed by a particular equation and a connection outer curve expressed by another particular equation formed between the outer and inner curve segment. The strength of the spiral elements can be enhanced or a delivery port having a large area can be provided.

A rotary type fluid machine including a stationary spiral element and a revolving spiral element respectively having a substantially identical configuration and disposed therein 180 degrees apart from each other in mutually nested relationship, the revolving spiral element being adapted to revolve in solar motion relationship with respect to the stationary spiral element with a radius of revolutionary motion .rho., wherein the both spiral elements are respectively defined in profile with a radially outer curve segment consisting of an involute curve, a radially inner curve segment consisting of another involute curve in an inside arc having a radius R, and an arc having a radius r connecting smoothly the radially outer curve segment and the arc having the radius R, thereby ensuring a smallest possible error in the machining and thereby reducing a work period of time on the spiral elements; or wherein there is provided a small gap or clearance between the both spiral elements when installed in a mutual engagement relationship in such a manner that the whole inner and connection curves or part thereof defining the profile of the spiral elements may be caused to be departed out of the mutual engagement relationship in the range between marginal points for defining a due involute curve therefor, thereby ensuring a long service life and a high efficiency performance of the entire rotary type fluid machine.
