An electro-optic device includes: an electro-optic panel; a first flexible printed circuit; a second flexible printed circuit; and a conductive section. Each of the first flexible printed circuit and the second flexible printed circuit has a structure in which a reference potential layer and a signal potential layer are laminated after being insulated from each other, the reference potential layer applying a reference potential to the electro-optic panel, the signal potential layer applying a signal potential to the electro-optic panel, and the first flexible printed circuit and the second flexible printed circuit each having an opening in which a part of the reference potential layer is exposed. The conductive section electrically connects the part exposed in the opening of the reference potential layer in the first flexible printed circuit and the part exposed in the opening of the reference potential layer in the second flexible printed circuit to each other.

A plasma addressing display device comprising a flat panel including a display cell having columns of signal electrodes and also including a plasma cell having rows of discharge channels, with pixels formed at intersections of the signal electrodes and the discharge channels; a scanning circuit for sequentially discharging the columns of the signal electrodes at a pre-set period to select pixels from row to row; and a signal circuit for supplying picture signals to the column of the signal electrodes to write the picture signals in the pixels of the selected row, the scanning circuit discharging each discharge channel with time shift as the discharging period allocated to the discharge channel of a previous row is partially overlapped at least with the discharging period allocated to the discharge channel of the next row to allocate a discharging period longer than the pre-set period to each discharge channel.

Plasma addressing display device

A plasma addressed liquid crystal display device has a plurality of plasma channels, each having discharge electrodes for plasma discharge, in an area divided by parallel partitions associated with reference electrodes. The discharge electrodes are formed by a pair of transparent electrodes having pre-set electrode widths and electrode intervals and a bus electrode of a material lower in the electrical resistance than the material of the transparent electrode and which is arranged in association with each transparent electrode. With the present plasma addressed liquid crystal display device, stable display can be obtained in an entire area of the viewing screen.

A plasma addressed electro-optical display is disclosed which is capable of improving current resistance of discharge electrodes disposed below cover glass to be similar to that of discharge electrodes in an effective frame and which, therefore, is enabled to be free from disconnection the reliability to be improved. The plasma addressed electro-optical display has a plasma cell formed by disposing a thin dielectric plate on a first substrate having a main surface on which a plurality of substantially parallel discharge electrodes are formed in such a manner that a predetermined distance is provided between the first substrate and the thin dielectric plate and by hermetically sealing the periphery of the first substrate and the thin dielectric plate with a sealing portion; and a second substrate disposed on the thin dielectric plate and having electrodes intersecting the discharge electrodes at substantially right angles on an opposite surface thereof in such a manner that an electro-optical material layer is interposed between the thin dielectric plate and the second substrate, wherein barrier ribs for separating the plasma cell are formed on the discharge electrodes apart from the sealing portion, a cover glass layer covering the discharge electrodes is formed in at least a region between the barrier ribs and the sealing portion, and assuming that the thickness of each of the discharge electrodes is t, the width of the same in an effective frame is W.sub.1 and the width of the same below the cover glass is W.sub.2, a predetermined equation is satisfied.

Plasma addressed electro-optical display

To provide a method of producing a plasma addressed display device which can prevent a gap unevenness of the liquid crystal layer and cracking of a dielectric sheet due to intrusion of dust as much as possible, a method of production of a plasma addressed display device in which a plasma substrate glass 31 constituting a plasma cell 3 and a dielectric sheet 4 face each other via a plurality of partition walls 4 provided in parallel, wherein parts of the partition walls 5 are formed on the dielectric sheet 4 and, at the same time, parts of the partition walls 5 are formed on the plasma substrate glass 31, and these dielectric sheet 4 and plasma substrate glass 31 are bonded so as to complete the partition walls 6 by combining the parts of the partition walls 5 formed on them with each other.

Method of producing plasma addressed display device

To provide a plasma addressed liquid crystal display device which can enhance the bonding strength between the dielectric sheet and the plasma substrate glass, a frit seal is provided at the outside of the barrier ribs, and dummy barrier ribs and a frit seal are sequentially provided on the outside of the frit seal. The frit seal has a greater width than that of the frit seal and has a role as a reinforcing member. The dielectric sheet and a plasma substrate glass are provided so as to sandwich the barrier ribs. A liquid crystal layer is provided on a surface side of the dielectric sheet.

A plasma addressed liquid crystal display device having a plasma cell and a liquid crystal cell stacked one above the other is manufactured by a method of forming stripe-shaped barrier ribs by printing to a substrate on which a plurality of plasma electrodes are previously formed, filling a temporary reinforcing material between each of the stripe-shaped barrier ribs to bury the periphery of the individual barrier ribs, polishing to planarize a top portion of each of the barrier ribs buried in the reinforcing material, removing the temporary reinforcing material to expose the plasma electrodes and finally joining a dielectric sheet in contact with the planarized top portions of the barrier ribs, to assemble a plasma cell. Barrier ribs formed in the plasma cell of the plasma addressed liquid crystal display device can be polished stably with no worry of destruction.

Method of manufacturing a plasma addressed liquid crystal display device

A plasma addressed display device in which a microsheet glass can be bonded without the risk of cracking and an abnormal local discharge between neighboring cathode electrodes may be prohibited from occurring. The plasma addressed liquid crystal display device is made up of a first substrate having a plurality of first electrodes arranged substantially parallel to one another on its one major surface, and a second substrate having a plurality of second electrodes on its major surface facing the first electrodes on the first substrate. The second electrodes extends substantially parallel to one another and substantially at right angles to the first electrodes, a dielectric sheet arranged between the first and second substrates, a layer of an electro-chemical material provided between the first substrate and the dielectric sheet, a plurality of partitions, as barrier ribs, formed along the second electrodes in a discharge chamber defined between the second substrate and the dielectric sheet, a sealing member arranged between the second electrodes and the dielectric sheet for sealing the discharge chamber, and an insulating film formed in the inside of the sealing member for covering an upper part of the second electrode.

Plasma addressed display device

A plasma addressed electro-optical device intended to assure the flatness of a microsheet glass used as the separation sheet provided between a liquid crystal cell and a plasma cell includes dummy barrier ribs on a glass substrate to support the microsheet glass at the external side of frit seal of the plasma cell formed using a low melting point glass material. The plasma address electro-optical device has a first substrate having a plurality of first electrodes arranged in parallel with each other on one principal surface thereof, a second substrate having a plurality of second electrodes arranged in parallel with each other crossing the first electrodes on the principal surface of the first substrate opposed to the first electrodes, a microsheet glass provided between the first and second substrates, electro-optical material layer provided between the first substrate and the microsheet glass, a plasma cell formed by bonding the circumferential portions of the second substrate and the microsheet glass with a low melting point glass, the plasma cell including a plurality of barrier ribs formed along the surfaces of the second electrodes, and dummy barrier ribs provided at the external side of the low melting point glass to support the microsheet glass.
