A battery pack which is placed below a floor panel of a vehicle, includes a battery, a case for accommodating the battery, and a pressure release mechanism for releasing pressure inside the case. The pressure release mechanism includes a communication member which has one end and the other end and where the one end is connected to the case, and a gas discharge unit connected to the other end of the communication member and having a labyrinth structure.

An oxidant gas conduit communicating with both an oxidant gas inlet communication hole and an oxidant gas outlet communication hole is formed in a surface of a cathode-side metallic separator which forms a fuel cell. Continuous linear guide ridges which protrude from intermediate height sections to the oxidant gas conduit side and form continuous guide conduits are provided on the cathode-side metallic separator. The linear guide ridges are continuously connected to ends of rectilinear conduit ridges which form rectilinear conduits, are provided with bend portions, and are set to lengths which are different from each other in a step-like manner.

Fuel cell

The present invention relates to a fuel cell separator and a method of producing the fuel cell separator. A first separator and a second separator are provided as the fuel cell separators. Firstly, the first separator and the second separator are heated. Thus, an Fe rich layer is formed in a surface layer of each of the first separator and the second separator, and a Cr rich layer where a proportion of Cr is 60% or more is formed in an inner portion of each of the first separator and the second separator. Then, an electrolytic treatment is applied to each of the first separator and the second separator to remove the Fe rich layer. By the removal, the Cr rich layer is exposed to the outside on the outermost surface layer of each of the first separator and the second separator.

Fuel cell separator with chromium rich surface layer and method of producing the fuel cell separator

An oxygen-containing gas flow field is formed on a surface of a cathode side metal separator of a fuel cell. The oxygen-containing gas flow field is connected between an oxygen-containing gas supply passage and an oxygen-containing gas discharge passage. A coolant flow field is formed on the other surface of the cathode side metal separator, on the back of the oxygen-containing gas flow field. The cathode side metal separator has linear guide ridges protruding from an intermediate height area toward the oxygen-containing gas flow field to form a continuous guide flow field, and bosses protruding from the intermediate height area toward the coolant flow field to form an embossed flow field.

Fuel cell with buffer-defined flow fields

A fuel cell is formed by stacking first cell units and second cell units alternately. An inlet buffer and an outlet buffer are formed on a surface of a first metal separator of the first cell unit. Bosses are provided in the inlet buffer and the outlet buffer of the first metal separator. An inlet buffer and an outlet buffer are formed on a surface of the second metal separator of the first cell unit. Continuous guide ridges are formed in the inlet buffer and the outlet buffer of the second metal separator. The bosses and the continuous guide ridges are provided at positions overlapped with each other in the stacking direction.

A stop method for a fuel cell system including a fuel cell unit in which hydrogen is supplied to an anode, and air is supplied to a cathode so as to generate electrical power via an electrochemical reaction. The stop method includes the steps of stopping supply of hydrogen to the anode, electrically connecting the anode and the cathode via an electrical load, and supplying air to the anode.

Stop method for fuel cell system and fuel cell system

The present invention provides a fuel cell having a layered structure, including: a membrane electrode assembly having a fuel electrode, an oxidation electrode, and an electrolyte membrane held between the fuel electrode and the oxidation electrode; and stainless steel separators holding the membrane electrode assembly therebetween. The stainless steel separator contains Cr and Fe; the Cr concentration by mass % by mass ratio of Cr to Fe at the separator surface facing the fuel electrode is from 0.7 to 1.3; and the Cr concentration by mass % by mass ratio of Cr to Fe at the separator surface facing the oxidation electrode is less than 0.7.

A terminal plate, an insulating plate, and an end plate are stacked on a stack body. The terminal plate has current collectors at least at lower portions of an oxygen-containing gas supply passage, a coolant supply passage, a fuel gas discharge passage, a fuel gas supply passage, a coolant discharge passage, and an oxygen-containing gas discharge passage. The current collectors contact the water generated in the reaction or a coolant for collecting electricity.

A fuel cell system includes a fuel cell having a stack composed of stacked cells that generate electrical power from anode gas and cathode gas; a cell voltage measuring device connected to the cells to measure the voltages of the cells, the cell voltage measuring device outputting a first predetermined value as a measurement value when the voltage of the cell being measured is at or below a detection limit; a stack voltage measuring device connected to the stack that measures the voltage of the stack; and a control unit that restricts the current flowing though the fuel cell when the difference between the sum of the individual voltages of the cells measured by the cell voltage measuring device and the voltage of the stack measured by the stack voltage measuring device exceeds a second predetermined value.
