An extravasation detecting apparatus is provided which is capable of detecting at an early stage the dislodgment of a tip opening of a solution supplying tool from a blood vessel. The extravasation detecting apparatus includes: a fluid delivery unit which supplies a fluid medicine by repetitively performing operations of pressing and occluding a portion between a fluid medicine containing unit and a puncture site of an infusion tube, subsequently suctioning the fluid medicine from upstream using a restoring force of the infusion tube, and once again pressing and occluding the infusion tube to push out the fluid medicine toward downstream; a tube closing unit located upstream of the fluid delivery unit; and a blood detecting sensor which operates the tube closing unit during a solution supplying operation to generate negative pressure in a downstream infusion tube and which detects whether or not blood is being suctioned between the fluid delivery unit and the puncture site into the infusion tube from a punctured blood vessel.

Provided are a blood pressure measuring apparatus capable of effectively eliminating the influence which the volume change in an upstream portion of an occluding cuff has on a pulse wave detection cuff in an oscillometric double-cuff system, increasing the S/N ratio of systolic blood pressure detection, and accurately measuring the blood pressure with an inexpensive arrangement, a cuff, and a blood pressure measuring method. The apparatus includes a first pipe () connected to an occluding air bag () and sub air bag (). The first pipe is connected to the sub air bag, and the sub air bag is connected to the occluding air bag via an entirely foldable rod shape member () capable of maintaining a hollow portion. A gate for detecting the Korotkoff sound by using an oscillation in cuff pressure is automatically stopped, and the validity of the Korotkoff sound is determined in accordance with a change in the height of the oscillating pulse wave.

An automatic sphygmomanometer of this invention is arranged to predict, on the basis of the relationship between cuff pressure and the amplitude of a pulse wave, maximal and minimal blood pressures while the cuff pressure is being increased. This automatic sphygmomanometer is capable of minimizing the discomfort inflicted upon a subject by increasing or reducing the cuff pressure to the neighborhood of a predicted maximal or minimal blood pressure at a relative high rate. Concretely, the pressure in the cuff is increased at a relatively high pressure-increasing rate to a level immediately below the predicted maximal blood pressure and, thereafter, the pressure-increasing rate is reduced to a rate suitable for measurement. The maximal blood pressure is in turn measured. When the minimal blood pressure is to be measured, as soon as the maximal blood pressure has been measured, the cuff pressure is rapidly reduced to a level immediately above the predicted minimal blood pressure and, then, the pressure-reducing rate is reduced. The minimal blood pressure is measured under the condition of this reduced rate. Accordingly, it is possible to minimize the discomfort inflicted upon the subject due to pressure and a lengthy operation. Moreover, this invention eliminates the awkward operation of setting a pressure which is approximately 30 mmHg higher than the expected maximal blood pressure.

A photoelectric sphygmomanometer of volume oscillometric method-type is provided with regulating means for regulating quantity of light, carrier-wave gain and pulsation gain based upon the level of the carrier wave immediately after the start of cuff depressurization. This makes it possible to perform regulation after the start of depressurization and to eliminate an inability to take a measurement due to a fluctuation in the level of light received.

Photoelectric sphygmomanometer of volume oscillometric method-type

An electronic sphygmomanometer measures blood pressure while deflating or inflating a cuff. Cuff pressurization is constant, irrespective of cuff size, up to about 10 mmHg. When this value is exceeded, supply of air to the cuff is controlled in accordance with the cuff size. The decision regarding the cuff size is made by reading in the size from a designating switch. The cuff pressure sampling period during inflation is made shorter than that during deflation.

A gas flow valve enables constant venting and is used with a cuff showing a rapid decrease in venting ability at a predetermined value on a boundary within the pressure range which allows measurment of blood pressure. The gas flow valve has a body made of an elastic material and comprising a wedge-shaped portion formed integrally with a mounting base so as to have a flat portion with upper and lower surfaces serving as pressure-responsive surfaces, a linear opening formed at the tip of the wedge-shaped portion, and a passageway communicating with the opening and extending in the longitudinal direction within the mounting base and the tip portion. A thin sheet-like member is twisted and disposed in the passageway so that the tip portion is held by the opening. As a result, the elastic deformation of the gas passageway formed by the gaps in the opening during pressure reduction is promoted by the resiliency of the torsion of the thin sheet-like member. A sphygmomanometer air-feeding/discharging apparatus with the gas flow valve has flexibility for cuffs having various shapes and specifications and enables easy adjustment of the orifice area.
