The disclosed subject matter includes light sources that have high use efficiency and a favorable bright distribution, and includes vehicle lamps that have both a favorable light distribution pattern and a capability of being simply composed by using the LED light sources. The light source can include a base board, at least one die bonding pad and wire bonding pad on the base board, at least one LED chip mounted on the die bonding pad and connected to respective bonding pads, and an encapsulating resin over the LED chip. The at least one LED chip can emit a uniform light with a distribution electrode on a top surface thereof and can form a favorable light distribution using a shield electrode on the top surface. The vehicle lamp can include the light source and an optical lens selected according to a kind and/or design of a vehicle lamp.

Light source and vehicle lamp

A light emitting device is configured to prevent leakage of light but can be reduced in thickness as compared with conventional devices, and can effectively prevent degradation in luminous flux (luminous flux drop). The light emitting device can include a light emitting element, an optically transparent sealing resin having a pair of faces opposed to each other with an axis of light emitting direction of the light emitting device interposed therebetween. The sealing resin can cover the light emitting element and be mixed with a wavelength converting material. A reflective film can be provided on at least one of the pair of opposed faces of the sealing resin. The reflective film can be a white coating containing a white pigment in a concentration of 23 wt % to 54 wt % and formed to be 14 &#x3bc;m to 50 &#x3bc;m in thickness.

Light emitting device

The present invention is an apparatus and method for the fabrication of high quality silicon films by deposition of a silicon vapor onto a substrate. The silicon film fabrication apparatus includes a chamber, a crucible having an anode for melting a silicon metal, an anode for generating a DC arc discharge plasma, a substrate holder facing the crucible, and a heater for heating a substrate arranged in the substrate holder. The apparatus also includes a variable DC power supply, a cathode element including an electrode plate for generating the DC arc discharge plasma, a gas intake pipe penetrating through the electrode plate into the chamber, and an exhaust pipe having a valve facing the gas intake pipe. The silicon film is fabricated by disposing a substrate in a chamber, introducing hydrogen gas into the chamber, generating the DC arc discharge plasma, evaporating the silicon metal in the chamber, and depositing the silicon vapor on the substrate after the vapor passes through the DC arc discharge plasma.

Fabrication and method of producing silicon films

A phosphor for use in an electroluminescent panel is produced by firing a material primarily composed of powder of zinc sulfide, preferably with high-frequency induction heating, under a predetermined pressure in an atmosphere of a halogen gas as a coactivator. The phosphor thus produced is of good emission characteristics having minimum particle size and impurity concentration irregularities.

Method of manufacturing a phosphor for use in an electroluminescent panel

An apparatus for manufacturing a phosphor for use in an electroluminescent panel includes a storage body that is permeable to a fluid, and an open boat for containing a phosphor material. The open boat is stored in, and has a shape corresponding to, the storage body. The open boat and the storage body are housed in a reactor. A gas supply section introduces a nitrogen gas and a halogen gas into the reactor, and a heating device heats the reactor. A pressure control device selectively evacuates the reactor and introduces a gas pressure into the reactor to control the pressure in the reactor to be in a range from 10.sup.-3 to 1140 Torr. The pressure control device includes a pressure sensor for detecting the amount of pressure in the reactor, a pressure control valve for setting pressure in the reactor to a predetermined level based on a signal from the pressure sensor, a vacuum pump for discharging a fluid from the reactor until a predetermined amount of vacuum is generated in the reactor, and valves for changing a discharge line. A discharge gas processing device processes toxic gas discharged from the reactor.

Apparatus for manufacturing a phosphor used in a display device

An EL lamp having a higher luminescence efficiency and a process for manufacturing the same are provided. The EL element includes an aluminum foil having at least one specularly polished surface, an anodized oxide film formed on the specularly polished surface of the aluminum foil, a light emitting EL layer formed directly on the film, and a transparent electrode formed on the light emitting EL layer. The process for manufacturing an EL lamp includes the steps of polishing specularly at least one of the surfaces of an aluminum foil, forming an anodized oxide film on the specularly polished surface of the aluminum foil, and forming directly on the aluminum oxide film a light emitting EL layer and a transparent electrode.
