A marine propulsion unit includes a motor driving force transmission shaft, a propeller shaft, and a shaft including one of a switching shaft and a drive shaft, and one of the motor driving force transmission shaft and the shaft includes a hollow member, and the other of the motor driving force transmission shaft and the shaft is disposed inside the hollow member.

Marine propulsion unit

An engine includes a crankshaft extending in a vertical direction. A drive shaft is connected to the crankshaft and coaxial with the crankshaft. A water intake passage is connected to the engine. A water pump is connected to the water intake passage. The water pump includes a pump shaft. The pump shaft is eccentrically mounted with respect to the drive shaft and parallel or substantially parallel to the drive shaft. The pump shaft rotates according to rotation of the drive shaft.

Outboard motor

When a shift member is in a first position, a first clutch couples a second drive shaft to a first drive shaft. When the shift member is in the first position, a second clutch decouples a first gear from the first drive shaft. When the shift member is in the first position, a third clutch decouples a second gear from the second drive shaft.

A marine propulsion device includes an engine, a driving shaft coupled to the engine and configured to transmit power, a first cooling water pump configured to be driven by the driving force of the driving shaft and to pump cooling water to cool the engine, a cooling water path configured to supply the cooling water sent by the first cooling water pump to the engine, and a pressurization mechanism arranged in a water passage upstream of a suction port of the first cooling water pump and configured to apply pressure to the cooling water supplied to the suction port of the first cooling water pump.

Marine propulsion device

A marine propulsion device includes a motive force transmission system, a propeller shaft, a housing section, and a clutch. The motive force transmission system includes a crank shaft and a drive shaft which transmits a motive force from the crank shaft. The propeller shaft transmits the motive force from the drive shaft. The housing section houses the motive force transmission system. The clutch is attached between the motive force transmission system and the housing section. The clutch permits relative rotation between the motive force transmission system and the housing section by opening a connection between the motive force transmission system and the housing section during normal rotation of the motive force transmission system. The clutch prevents relative rotation between the motive force transmission system and the housing section by connecting the motive force transmission system and the housing section during a reverse rotation of the motive force transmission system.

A shift system for a boat propulsion unit is provided comprising a remote control operation device having a remote control shift lever for shifting from a distance. A boat propulsion unit has a shift device for shifting and a shift actuator for actuating the shift device. A controller controls the actuation of the shift actuator according to the operation amount of the remote control shift lever, as the remote control shift lever is operated from a neutral position within a specified range of shift region. The controller controls the actuation amount of the shift actuator per unit operation amount of the remote control shift lever to be different in part of the shift region.

Shift system for boat propulsion unit

An outboard motor is provided that can include an exhaust guide, a shift shaft, a shift shaft rotating mechanism, and a shifting mechanism. The exhaust guide, on which an engine can be mounted, can be utilized to fix the relative positions of an axis of the shift shaft and a body of the shift shaft rotating mechanism for facilitating highly accurate and well-executed shifting of a propeller to or from one of forward and reverse rotating directions. The shift shaft can be rotatably supported by the exhaust guide, and the shift shaft rotating mechanism can be fixed to the exhaust guide. Further, the shift shaft rotating mechanism can be configured to selectively rotate the shift shaft.

A remote control operation unit can have a remote control shift lever through which a boat operator can remotely select between forward, neutral, and reverse drive modes. A boat propulsion unit can have a shift switching device for shifting and a shift actuator for operating the shift switching device. A controller can be configured to control the operation of the shift actuator in response to the operation amount of the remote control shift lever. The controller can also be configured to control the shift actuator such that the shift actuator achieves a first target position that is a position beyond a reference position of the shift actuator where a dog clutch is in the middle of a neutral range, when the remote control shift lever has been shifted from either a forward position or a reverse position to a neutral position.

Remote control system for boat

A shift cutout control system is provided that can comprise a shift mechanism, an engine electronic control unit, a remote controller, and an ignition control means. The shift mechanism can switch a rotation of a propeller shaft into one of a neutral, forward, and reverse drive state. The propeller shaft can be driven by an output power of an engine. The engine electronic control unit can control a drive state of the engine. The remote controller can transmit a control signal to the engine electronic control unit to achieve a target drive state. The ignition control means can initiate an ignition cutout in the engine when an operating position signal from a lever position detector indicates that a control lever is in a neutral position and a shift position signal from a shift position detector indicates that a shift position is not in neutral.

A forward and reverse drive switching device for an outboard motor can include a switching mechanism that is actuated so as to set a propeller to a forward drive mode or a reverse drive mode. An actuator can have an electric motor and can serve as a drive source for the switching mechanism. A coupling member can transmit a driving force from the actuator to the switching mechanism to actuate the switching mechanism. The coupling member can include a rod disposed on an axis of the electric motor and can have an end coupled to the switching mechanism with its other end coupled to the electric motor to permit retracting and extending movements of the rod along the axis through the operation of the electric motor.

Forward and reverse drive switching device for outboard motor

A shift device for a boat is operated by a shift lever. Movement of the shift lever causes movement of a mechanical actuator. The device comprises means for detecting the positions of the shift lever at specified time intervals and means for obtaining by calculation an estimated time at which the shift lever will reach an operation end position based on the data from the means for detecting. Means for controlling the drive speed of the actuator also are provided. The shift device corresponds the completion of shift lever movement to the completion of shifting by timing the actuator movement to encourage shifting at the time the shift lever is anticipated to stop movement.

Shifting device for boat and method of using the same

A swivel bracket can be attached to a transom plate of a watercraft by means of a clamp bracket. A steering bracket can be rotationally provided in a swivel shaft of the swivel bracket. An outboard motor body can be secured to the steering bracket. An electric motor can be housed in the outboard motor and engaged with a stationary gear secured to the swivel bracket by way of a reduction gear. Driven by the electric motor, the steering bracket turns relative to the swivel bracket, causing the outboard motor body to turn.

A marine drive includes a drive shaft having an upper portion, a lower portion, and at least one waist portion between the upper and lower portions. The upper portion is adapted to be coupled to an engine crankshaft and the lower portion is adapted to be supported by bearings and drives a propulsion device through a transmission. The waist portion has a diameter of generally lesser size than the diameters of the upper and lower portions. The waist portion is tapered so that the diameter of the waist portion at its upper end is greater than the diameter of the waist portion at its lower end. The tapered geometry of the waist portion helps distribute impact forces that may occur when the propulsion device is suddenly locked in position when the engine is still running. As a result, failure and damage to the drive shaft waist portion is reduced.

Drive shaft for marine drive

A tilt stop mechanism for an outboard drive assembly includes an improved construction that is easy to handle and can be provided in a relatively narrow space of a support assembly. The support bracket includes a pair of transversely spaced portions. At least a portion of the outboard drive assembly is interposed between the spaced portions. A tilt pin couples the drive assembly to the support bracket for pivotal movement about a tilt axis extending generally horizontally. A tilt stop member is coupled to the drive assembly for pivotal movement about a pivot axis extending generally horizontally. The tilt stop member has at least one stopper portion extending between the drive assembly and the support bracket when the drive assembly is in a tilted-down position. The support bracket has at least one recess. The stopper portion engages with the recess by the pivotal movement of the tilt stop member when the outboard drive is in a tilted-up position.

Tilt stop mechanism for outboard drive

A power tilt and trim system for an outboard drive includes an improved construction that can be formed in compact nature without significantly reducing its strength. The system includes a support member that couples to the outboard motor. The support member has a pair of bracket arms spaced apart from each other and one of the bracket arms has an opening. An actuator is nested between the bracket arms to tilt the outboard drive. A powering assembly is disposed next to the actuator and arranged to power the actuator. At least a portion of the powering assembly lies within the opening.
