Ionizer

An ionization device including: a laser light source; a light collection optical system configured to irradiate a sample with the laser light; a first intensity changing unit configured to continuously change an intensity of laser light; a second intensity changing unit configured to stepwisely change an intensity of laser light; an irradiation diameter setting reception unit configured to receive setting of an irradiation diameter of laser light; an irradiation intensity setting reception unit configured to receive setting of an irradiation intensity of laser light; and a laser light intensity controller configured to set an intensity of the laser light by changing an irradiation diameter of the laser light by the light collection optical system and controlling the second intensity changing unit according to the irradiation diameter, and by controlling the first intensity changing unit according to the irradiation intensity.

Ionization device

An aperture member including an opening having a predetermined shape and an image forming optical system having a short focal length are disposed at predetermined positions between a laser emitter and a sample, and a substantially square laser beam irradiation region is formed by reducing and forming an image of the opening shape on the sample. The aperture member and the image forming optical system are movable in an optical axis direction, and a size of substantially square laser beam irradiation region on the sample is variable. The size of the laser beam irradiation region is adjusted to a size of a unit attention region in an analysis target region on the sample, and a step width of scanning for moving the laser beam irradiation position is also adjusted to the size of the unit attention region.

Mass spectrometer

A mass spectrometer () is provided with: an ionization chamber () for ionizing a sample (S) on its surface at an analysis point through irradiation by a laser beam; an analysis chamber () having a mass spectroscope () for detecting ions; a middle vacuum chamber () arranged between the ionization chamber () and the analysis chamber (); and an introduction pipe () or an introduction hole for allowing the inside of the housing () of the ionization chamber () to communicate with the inside of the middle vacuum chamber (), wherein ions and fine particles, which have not been drawn into the introduction pipe () or introduction hole, can be prevented from spreading inside of the chamber. The structure of the mass spectrometer () further includes: an exhaust pipe (); and a fan () for drawing air into the exhaust pipe () so that air that contains ions and/or fine particles, which have not been introduced into the introduction pipe () or introduction hole, can be suctioned up into the exhaust pipe () when the fan () is in operation.

When a sample plateis set on a sample stage, an irradiation trace formation controllerappropriately moves the sample stageand throws a short pulse of high-power laser beam to create an irradiation trace at a predetermined position on the sample plate. The irradiation trace has a unique shape. A microscopic image of the irradiation trace is captured and saved in an image storage section. After the sample plateis temporarily removed from the stageto apply a matrix to a sample, the sample plateis re-set on the same stage. Then, the displacement of the sample platefrom its original position is calculated from the difference in the position of the irradiation trace between an image taken at that point in time and the image previously stored in the image storage section. Based on the calculated result, an analysis position correctormodifies the position information of an area selected by an operator. Thus, the displacement of the re-set sample plate can be accurately detected. There is no need to use a special sample plate previously processed for creating a marker for displacement detection.

An image generation system performs a game process of causing a game character to make a predetermined movement for a given object based on an operation input from an operation section including an acceleration sensor and causing the given object to move in an object space. A game apparatus includes an LCD and is provided a touch panel in relation to the LCD. The LCD displays a game screen for making a player character hit a ball. For example, when touch-on is performed on the LCD (touch panel), the stance and shot power of the player character are decided according to coordinates of the touch-on position. With this, the path of the ball is decided to be a straight ball, draw ball or fade ball, and the carry of the ball is decided with regard to the shot power. Following the touch-on, when a slide operation is performed, an impact is decided according to the slide operation. For example, the path of the ball is changed by the decided impact.

A mass spectrometer capable of obtaining a clear microscopic observation image with high spatial resolution in real time, even during a mass analysis, without affecting the analysis is provided. An apertureis formed in a stageon which a sample plateto be placed. The sample plateis transparent or translucent. A microscopic observation unit, including an observation optical systemand a CCD camera, is provided below the stageto observe the reverse side of the samplethrough the apertureof the stageas well as the transparent sample plate. The observed image is displayed on the screen of a display unit. If the sampleis a slice of biological tissue, the sample image taken from the reverse side will be substantially the same as an image taken from the obverse side.

A sample platewith a sampleplaced thereon is initially set on a stage, and a visual image of the sample is taken with a CCD camera. This image is stored in an image data memory. Then, an operator removes the sample plate, sprays a matrix for a MALDI process onto the sampleand replaces the plate onto the stage. After that, when a predetermined operation is made, a clear image of the sample taken before the application of the matrix is shown on a display unit. On this image, the operator specifies a point or area for the analysis. The samplemay have been displaced due to the removal and replacement of the plate. Accordingly, an image analyzercalculates the direction and magnitude of the displacement, for example, by recognizing the position of the markings provided on the sample plate. A displacement correctorcomputes coordinate values in which the displacement is corrected. Thus, even if a displacement occurs, the mass analysis can be accurately performed on the point or area of the actual sample as specified on the clear visual image taken before the application of the matrix.

In a mass spectrometer for carrying out mass analysis while microscopically observing a two-dimensional area of a sample, the observation position for selecting a target portion while observing an image of the samplecaptured with a CCD camerais separated from the analysis position for carrying out the mass analysis of the sampleby delivering laser light from the laser-delivering unitonto the sample. The sampleis placed on a stage, which can be precisely moved between the observation position and the analysis position by a stage-driving mechanism. An observation optical systemcan be set close to the sampleat the observation position, without impeding the flight of the ions generated from the sampleduring the analysis or interfering with a laser-condensing optical system. Thus, the spatial resolution for observation is improved without deteriorating the ion-detecting efficiency.

The present invention provides a mass spectrometer including an ion source for atomizing a liquid sample into ionized droplets and spraying ions in a predetermined direction. According to the present invention, the ion source includes a gas transport pipe and a liquid supply pipe; the gas transport pipe has an ejection port at its front end and a gas supply passage for sending an assist gas to the ejection port; the inner surface of the gas supply passage has a tapered section located in proximity to the ejection port, where the diameter of the tapered section decreases toward the ejection port; the liquid supply pipe is inserted into the gas supply passage so that the front end of the liquid supply pipe is located in proximity to the ejection port; three or more spheres having the same size are inserted between the inner surface of the gas supply passage and the outer surface of the liquid supply pipe; and a pressing mechanism is used to press the spheres onto the tapered section. Being pressed by the pressing mechanism, the spheres move along the tapered section and come closer to the central axis of the liquid supply passage. The gas transport pipe and the liquid supply pipe form a duplex pipe structure having a high degree of coaxiality, which produces a stable flow of ions sprayed in the predetermined direction.

An object of the present invention is to provide a new pedometer with game mode which can be used as a game by a child to get some exercise such as walking and/or running without reluctance. When a vibration is detected by a vibration detector, the count values of a step-number counter and an integrating counter are incremented, and thereby a display state of a character displayed on an LCD is varied based on the count values of step-number counter and/or the integrating counter.
