A lateral-electric-field mode liquid crystal display device includes: substrates; a liquid crystal layer; plural scanning lines and plural data lines crossing on one of the substrates; plural pixels formed by the scanning lines and the data lines; at least one strip-shaped pixel electrode arranged in each pixel and extending along the data line or the scanning line; a common electrode located in a layer closer to the liquid crystal layer than the strip-shaped pixel electrodes so as to cover the scanning lines and the data lines; and a first rectangular pixel electrode connected with one end of each of the at least one strip-shaped pixel electrode to from a T shape. The first rectangular pixel electrode overlaps with corner parts of an opening section of the common electrode, where the corners are closer to the first rectangular pixel electrode than the other corners of the opening section.

Liquid crystal display device

A lateral electric field type liquid crystal display device includes substrates, liquid crystal put between the substrates, scan lines and data lines arranged on one of the substrates, and pixels each of whose boundary is defined by two scan lines and two data lines. In each pixel, a strip-shaped electrode and a common electrode are formed with an insulating film put thereamong, and the pixel electrode is arranged to extend close along one of the data lines. In each pixel, a part of the common electrode covering one of the data lines overlaps with the pixel electrode, the pixel electrode partially projects from the overlapping area, and a side edge of the projecting part of the pixel electrode is separated from a side edge of a part of the common electrode covering the other data line so as to generate a lateral electric field to drive the liquid crystal.

Lateral electric field type liquid crystal display device

A transverse electric field-type liquid crystal display device displays by rotating homogeneous-aligned liquid crystals by a transverse electric field substantially parallel to a substrate, applied across a pixel electrode and a common electrode, assuring sufficient storage capacitance while enlarging the area of driving the liquid crystal molecules in a sub pixel. A source pixel electrode connected to a source electrode extends along the data line, a storage capacitance electrode formed by the same layer as the data line is formed above an adjacent scan line so as to overlap the adjacent scan line, the source pixel electrode is disposed so as to be connected to the storage capacitance electrode and a pixel along one side, an interlayer film is formed over the source pixel electrode, and a pixel electrode and a common electrode formed by a transparent conductive film are formed over the interlayer film.

A liquid crystal display device of a lateral electric field type performs display by rotating homogeneous-aligned liquid crystals by a lateral electric field substantially parallel to a substrate, which is applied across a pixel electrode and a common electrode, to increase the aperture ratio of a liquid crystal panel by narrowing the width of a black matrix provided along a data line. A source pixel electrode connected to a source electrode extends along the data line, a storage capacitance electrode formed by the same layer as the data line overlaps an adjacent scan line, the source pixel electrode is disposed so as to be connected to the storage capacitance electrode and a pixel along one side, an interlayer film is formed on the source pixel electrode, and a pixel electrode and a common electrode formed by a transparent conductive film are formed on the interlayer film.

Liquid crystal display device of lateral electric field type capable of reducing width of black matrix

To provide a structure of an electrically stable step film of a columnar spacer, which can be formed in a region of a storage capacitor without increasing the number of steps. A liquid crystal display device of the present invention further includes, in all the pixels, step films of a same area formed with a semiconductor layer within a storage capacitor forming part. The pixels includes a kind in which the columnar spacer is provided at a position abutting against a step film forming part and a kind in which the columnar spacer is provided at a position away from the step film forming part.

Liquid crystal display device having columnar spacers

A liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate, a second substrate, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first and second substrates. The first substrate includes first to N-th 1st retardation plates arranged on the first transparent substrate, and the second substrate includes first to N-th 2nd retardation plates arranged on the second transparent substrate. Assuming that a retardation plate among the first to N-th 1st retardation plates has an optical axis arranged at a first angle relative to a reference direction and a retardation plate among the first to N-th 2nd retardation plates, corresponding to the retardation plate among the first to N-th 1st retardation plates, has an optical axis arranged at a second angle relative to the reference direction, the first and second angles are different from each other by about 90 degrees.

Liquid crystal display device and method of fabricating the same

A normally-black active-matrix-type liquid crystal display device comprises a first substrate having color layers of three or more colors and a second substrate on which an active-matrix array is formed. The first substrate has a structure, which is devoid of a black matrix, in which the color layers are stacked in a frame portion surrounding the display area. A first light-shielding layer in which color layers of three of more colors are stacked is formed on the frame portion on a side of the display area from which scanning lines are led out and on a side of the display area from which data lines are led out, from among four sides of the display area. A second light-shielding layer in which color layers of two colors are built up is formed on the frame portion on at least one side of the other remaining sides of the display area.

An active matrix LCD device includes a TFT panel, a counter panel and liquid crystal interposed therebetween. The TFT panel includes a plurality of scanning lines and a plurality of common lines formed in one layer and extending in a row direction, and a plurality of signal lines extending in a column direction. A coupling line for coupling the common lines together is disposed outside the pixel array of the TFT panel, such as in a TCP mounted on the TFT panel and mounting thereon a driver IC for driving the scanning lines.

Liquid crystal display panel

A liquid crystal display has a first substrate formed with a picture character pixel electrode for displaying a picture character represented by a fixed pattern, a second substrate formed with a common electrode opposite to the picture character pixel electrode, and a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between the first substrate and the second substrate. The picture character pixel electrode is formed on an interlayer insulating film, and is connected to a picture character signal electrode formed below the interlayer insulating film through a plurality of contact holes formed through the interlayer insulating film.

In a manufacturing method of a color liquid crystal display device, a first conductive film is formed on a transparent insulating substrate to form a gate electrode and a gate bus line (first PR process). A gate insulating film, a semiconductor layer, an ohmic layer, and a second conductive film are deposited to form an island of a thin film transistor and a drain bus line (second PR process). Then, color filters in respective three colors are formed in their respective predetermined regions on the transparent insulating substrate in succession (third through fifth PR processes). A black matrix is formed, and a drain electrode and a source electrode are formed in the island by removing the second conductive film and ohmic layer on a region corresponding to the channel region by using the black matrix as a mask (sixth PR process). Then, a planarization film and a pixel electrode are formed (seventh and eighth PR processes).
