There is provided a cutting tool having high wear resistance and fracture resistance by reducing the occurrence of thermal cracking on a cutting edge even during a cutting process of a heat-resistant alloy in which the cutting edge reaches high temperatures. The cutting tool is made from a cemented carbide that is composed mainly of a WC phase and contains 11.5-12.5% by mass of Co and 0.2-0.6% by mass of Cr in terms of CrC. The WC phase has a mean particle size of 0.85-1.05 &#x3bc;m, an antimagnetic force (Hc) of 13.0-16.0 kA/m, and a Rockwell hardness (HRA) of 89.5-90.5.

[Object] To efficiently recover tungsten from an object containing tungsten by a simple treatment process using a microorganism with reduced environmental load. [Solution] A method for recovering a tungsten compound is provided which includes the step of preparing a tungsten compound solution in which tungsten-containing polyatomic ions are dissolved, by eluting the metal component of an object containing tungsten into an alkaline solution; the adsorption step of adsorbing the tungsten-containing polyatomic ions to a microorganism by introducing the microorganism to the tungsten compound solution and adjusting the tungsten compound solution to an acidic level; and the collecting and washing step of collecting the microorganism to which the tungsten-containing polyatomic ions are adsorbed and washing the microorganism.

Method for recovering tungsten compound

An object of embodiments according to the invention is to provide a cutting tool having good wear resistance, good sliding property and good fracture resistance. A cutting toolcomprising a substrateand a coating layeror a coating layerwhich covers a surface of the substrate. The coating layeror the coating layercomprising a first layerand a second layer. The first layercomprises TiAlWSiM(CN) when M is at least one selected from Nb, Mo, Hf and Y, 0.45&#x2266;a&#x2266;0.55, 0.01&#x2266;b&#x2266;0.1, 0&#x2266;c&#x2266;0.05, 0.01&#x2266;d&#x2266;0.1, 0&#x2266;x&#x2266;1). The second layercomprises TiAlSiM'(CN) when M&#x2032; is at least one selected from Nb, Mo, Ta, Hf and Y, 0.50&#x2266;e&#x2266;0.60, 0&#x2266;f&#x2266;0.1, 0.05&#x2266;g&#x2266;0.15, 0&#x2266;y&#x2266;1).

A surface coated member comprises a substrate composed of a hard material, and a hard coating layer containing at least a TiCN layer on a surface of the substrate. A ratio r in a region of an outer surface side is larger than a ratio r in a region of an inner surface side, wherein r is a ratio of a peak strength Iof a (422)-crystal plane to a peak strength Iof a (111)-crystal plane, namely (I/I), in an X-ray diffraction analysis of the TiCN layer. The surface coated member has excellent adhesion between the substrate and the hard coating layer, and it also has excellent fracture resistance and wear resistance. Further provided is a cutting tool that includes a rake face and a flank formed on the substrate in the above surface coated member, and a cutting edge formed on a cross ridge portion between the rake face and the flank. Still further provided is a method for manufacturing a work piece to perform cutting process by applying the cutting edge of this cutting tool, to a work material.
