A pointing device is attached to a keyboard assembly. The pointing device includes an operation post; a sensor substrate that converts force applied to the operation post into an analog electric signal; a logic substrate that is attached to a rear surface of the keyboard assembly and generates a digital signal to move a cursor from the electric signal; and a cable that connects the sensor substrate and the logic substrate to each other. It is possible to reduce the area of a portion protruding to a lower side from the rear surface of the keyboard assembly in the vicinity of the operation post and to lower the height of the portion by separating the sensor substrate and the logic substrate from each other. Since the cable is separated from a motherboard, it is possible to reduce noise entering the cable which transmits an analog signal.

Sensor configuration of a pointing device of a keyboard

Pointing devices and related methods are disclosed that generally involve manipulation of a cursor or other user interface component based on inputs from a user. In one embodiment, an image sensor captures an image of the underside of a transparent contact surface and determines whether an object (e.g., a user's finger) is present in the image. Cursor movement information comprising direction and velocity components can be calculated from a single image by equating the size of a detected object with a desired velocity and by equating the position of the detected object relative to a fixed reference point with a desired direction. Thus, detection of user motion is not required, nor is comparison of successive image frames relative to a time reference. As a result, a device having few or no moving parts can be provided while at the same time permitting continuous cursor motion without repetitive swiping by a user.

A technique is provided for improving visual recognition of letters, graphics, etc., in a portion of a displayed image that has been enlarged. An image display system includes an image display component for displaying on a screen an image based on image data, a region indicator component for permitting a region to be enlarged from the image to be selected and identified, a data modification component for modifying the portion of the image data corresponding to an enlarged display region so that the selected image is enlarged and displayed within the enlarged display region on the screen, and a brightness adjusting component for adjusting values instructing brightness of the corresponding image data part such that a contrast of the image within the enlarged display is higher than a contrast of the original image within the enlarged display region.

Light emitted from the LED passes through an aperture provided in the bottom portion of the LED holder and illuminates a keyboard. Disclosed is an information processing system that can operate in at least two modes of power management, a normal mode and a suspend mode. The system can enter the suspend mode in response to the expiration of an inactivity suspend timer and can resume therefrom in response to a resume request. While resuming, the system is operative to measure an elapsed time between entering the suspend mode and resuming therefrom. The system is further operative during the resume to either (1) prompt a user to enter a password if the elapsed time is longer than a predetermined time or (2) skip (1) and not prompt a user to enter a password if the elapsed time is shorter than the predetermined time. The system decreases the amount of time required to resume from a power saving mode by not requiring a password input when a resume request by a user, such as key input, occurs within a relatively short period of time after the system entered the suspend mode.
