A laminated type optical member used in a display device for displaying an image based on pixels arrange in a matrix includes a first optical member, a second optical member, and spacers. The second optical member is disposed on a light entering side relative to the first optical member with a gap between the first optical member and the second optical member to overlap the first optical member. The spacers are disposed between the first optical member and the second optical member to hold the gap between the first optical member and the second optical member to form an air layer. The spacers are formed in linear shapes along a plate surface of the second optical member with axes tilted relative to an arrangement direction of the pixels.

A backlight device includes a light guide plate, a first light source, a second light source, and a positioning portion. The light guide plate has at least one end surface as a light entrance surface and one plate surface as a light exit surface. The first light source is opposed to a first light entrance surface that is a first end surface of the light guide plate. The second light source is opposed to a second light entrance surface that is an end surface opposite from the first light entrance surface of the light guide plate. The second light source is arranged to have a distance from the second light entrance surface relatively greater than a distance between the first light source and the first light entrance surface. The positioning portion is configured to position the light guide plate in a direction in which the first light source, the light guide plate, and the second light source are arranged, and to position the light guide plate with respect to the first light source and the second light source. The positioning portion is arranged to have a distance from the second light entrance surface relatively greater than a distance from the first light entrance surface.

An object of the present invention is to suppress the brightness distribution in the lighting device. The backlight unitaccording to the present invention includes an LEDas a light source with a light intensity distribution in which light having a peak light intensity travels in a direction inclined with respect to a front direction, a chassishaving an opening on a light exit side and housing the LED, and a light leading memberprovided to extend from a mounting surface of the LEDtoward the light exit side. The light leading memberis configured to lead light from the LEDtoward the light exit side. The employment of the LEDwith the above light intensity distribution enables an irradiation area A irradiated with the light having the peak light intensity to be larger. This reduces the uneven that may occur in the brightness distribution of the outgoing light.

A backlight unit includes a chassis, a plurality of LED light sources, and a reflection member. The chassis includes a bottom plate and side plates, and has an opening on a front surface side. The LED light sources are arranged in a matrix on a front surface of the bottom plate of the chassis. The reflection member includes a plurality of through holes through which the respective LED light sources are passed and side wall portions having inclined surfaces on the sides thereof. Uneven brightness is less likely to occur in lighting devices at low cost. A backlight unitincludes LEDs, a chassishaving a bottom plateand housing the LEDs, and an LED drive controllercontrolling drive of the LEDs. The LEDsare arranged in a matrix in row and column directions (X-axis direction and Y-axis direction) along the bottom plate, forming respective LED groupseach along the row direction. An object is to prevent or reduce uneven brightness in a direct-type lighting device. A lighting device according to the present technology includes LEDsarranged in a matrix on a bottom plate of the chassis and a reflectorincluding first and second side wallseach arranged between the LEDsadjacent in a Y-axis direction and an X-axis direction, respectively. The light guide plate, which constitutes a backlight unit, receives light through a light-receiving surface with the light-receiving surface oriented toward the light being emitted. In the backlight unit, pillars extend to intersect the direction of emission from an LED and are thus brought into contact with a device-carrying board and the light guide plate, which are superposed one on the other, thereby securing the device-carrying board and the light guide plate.
