A developing device includes: a housing which includes an opening portion open downward and in which a developer is stored in an internal storage space, the storage space being formed of a region of the internal space in which the developer is present; a sealing part that seals the opening portion and is removed to allow the developer to fall through the opening portion; a storage part that stores the developer having fallen through the opening portion; an inlet that is provided in the housing, allows the developer floating from the storage part to flow into the storage space from which the developer has fallen, and is different from the opening portion; and a collecting part that is provided on the housing and collects the developer having flowed into the storage space through the inlet.

An image forming unit includes an image carrier, a developer carrier, a development housing, and a guide member. The image carrier forms an electrostatic latent image. The developer carrier is in contact with the image carrier while rotating about a rotation axis and facing the image carrier to develop the electrostatic latent image. The development housing accommodates a developer and rotatably supports the developer carrier at one end with an opening portion that is open to the image carrier. The development housing includes an agitation path in which the developer is agitated and a feed path through which the developer is fed to the developer carrier. The guide member is disposed below the opening portion and includes an inner surface opposing the development housing to form a flow path that guides a current of air produced with rotation of the developer carrier in a direction away from the developer carrier, and to guide a recording medium to the image carrier with an outer surface opposite to the inner surface. Dust contained in the current of air is deposited on the inner surface of the guide member.

Image forming unit and image forming apparatus

A developing device includes a housing, a developer holding device, and a directing device. The housing includes a container portion containing developer and has a developing opening. The developing device has a through portion disposed at a portion of the housing including a downstream edge portion at a downstream portion of the developing opening in a direction in which the developer holding device is rotated. The through portion has an inlet, an outlet, and a passage that connects the inlet and the outlet to each other so as to allow part of an airflow generated by rotation of the developer holding device to be introduced thereinto and flow therethrough. The directing device extends from a portion of the housing opposite to the developing opening with the inlet of the through portion interposed therebetween toward the developer holding device so as to direct the part of the airflow toward the inlet.

A developing device includes a housing including a development opening and a containing unit that contains a developer, a developer carrier that rotates to pass through the development opening while holding the developer in the containing unit of the housing, an inlet portion of a flow path located in the housing at a portion including a downstream edge portion of the development opening on a downstream side in a rotation direction of the developer carrier, the inlet portion taking in part of an airflow caused by a rotation of the developer carrier to allow the part of the airflow to flow over an outer surface of the housing, and a guide member extending toward the developer carrier from a portion of the housing on a side of the inlet portion opposite to the development opening to guide the part of the airflow to the inlet portion.

An image forming unit includes a developing device, a guiding member, and a sealing member. The developing device develops an electrostatic latent image formed on an image carrier that rotates. The developing device has a first ventilation hole that serves as a flow path for an airflow that is generated by rotation of the image carrier. The guiding member guides a recording material to the image carrier. The guiding member has a second ventilation hole that forms the flow path for the airflow in cooperation with the first ventilation hole. The sealing member is disposed between the first ventilation hole and the second ventilation hole. The sealing member has a first end in contact with the developing device and a second end in contact with the guiding member.

A developing device includes a toner holding member that rotates while holding a toner on an outer peripheral surface of the toner holding member and develops an electrostatic latent image formed on an image carrier, a control member that controls a thickness of a layer of the toner formed on the outer peripheral surface of the toner holding member, a suppression member that has an end pressed against the image carrier and that suppresses leakage of the toner, a collecting member that is provided above the control member and that does not allow the toner flowing in a direction from the control member toward the collecting member to pass through the collecting member while allowing a gas to pass through the collecting member, and a containing chamber that contains the toner falling from the collecting member.

A developing device includes a developing member that develops an electrostatic latent image on an image carrying member with developer; a housing that houses and supports the developing member and has an open part facing the image carrying member; a storage portion provided inside the housing and storing the developer; and a leakage suppressing member provided at an edge of the open part that is on a downstream side in a direction of rotation of the developing member, the leakage suppressing member suppressing leakage of the developer from the housing toward the image carrying member. The housing has an opening on the downstream side in the direction of rotation with respect to the leakage suppressing member and on an upstream side in the direction of rotation with respect to the storage portion, the opening being open from a side of the developing member toward the outside of the housing.

A developing device includes a supply member, a developing device body, and a closing member. The supply member supplies a developer to an image holding element that holds a developer image. The developing device body rotatably supports the supply member. The closing member closes a clearance formed between the developing device body and the supply member with one end of the closing member fixed to the developing device body and the other end, which is a free end, contacting the supply member. A developing device includes a transporting unit that rotates while facing an image carrier that carries an electrostatic latent image, the transporting unit transporting developer toward the image carrier; a feeding unit that contacts the transporting unit to feed the developer to the transporting unit; a transport path that connects a containing chamber that contains the developer to a feeding chamber that houses the feeding unit; a supplying unit that retains the developer to be supplied in the transport path and supplies the developer to the feeding unit in a supply region that is separated from a contact region in which the feeding unit contacts the transporting unit; and an attaching unit that is disposed downstream of the contact region and upstream of the supply region in a rotation direction of the feeding unit and that attaches the developer to the feeding unit at a location below the contact region.

The toner holding member's surface has a specific surface roughness specified by a specific oil retention volume.
