A cooling system of a AC generator for vehicles has a stator with a stator winding, a rotor that is arranged in an inner circumferential side of the stator, a rectifier that converts an alternating current voltage generated in the stator winding into direct current, and a rear cover that covers the rectifier. The rear cover has an intake duct connecting portion that projects outside and an air intake duct is attached to a tip portion of the intake duct connecting portion. A dividing wall that divides an internal space of the rear cover into a plurality of spaces along a direction extending from the rectifier backwardly relative to the direction of rotation is disposed in the intake duct connecting portion.

An automotive alternator includes a rear frame having a rear end wall and a cover member covering a brush device. The cover member is connected to the rear end wall of the rear frame, and a vibration-absorbing member made of a rubber material is disposed between the rear end wall and the cover member. The vibration-absorbing member has a cylindrical portion disposed between a center opening of the rear end wall and an extending portion of the cover member and a rear disc portion disposed between the rear end wall and a front surface of the cover member. The cylindrical portion is compressed in the radial direction while the rear disc portion is compressed in the axial direction, thereby alleviating vibration of the brush device in both the radial and the axial directions.

A brush support jig for use during mounting of a brush assembly on a rotary electric machine having slip rings, to restrain the brushes against contact with the slip rings during the mounting operation, is of pin configuration having a linear portion formed of a linear portion made of a metal such as steel and a coating portion made of a material such as synthetic resin, having a lower degree of hardness than the slip rings, which covers the linear portion and thereby prevents damage to the slip rings in the event that that brush support jig comes into contact with the slip rings during the mounting operation.

An AC generator for a vehicle has a brush unit. The brush unit comprises a brush held in sliding contact with a slip ring, a spring for pressing the brush, a brush holder having a portion for receiving the brush, and a slip ring cover for covering the outer periphery of the slip ring formed on a rotary shaft. The slip ring cover includes a first wall portion and a second wall portion which are generally shaped like an arc, a cover portion for closing the end portion in the axial direction, and a side wall portion. The first wall portion and the second wall portion overlaps each other, and a suction/discharge port is formed between these wall portions.

An AC generator for a vehicle includes a rotor, a stator having a three-phase stator winding, a three-phase full-wave rectifier unit, an insulation cover, and a frame for rotatably supporting the rotor. The rectifier unit includes a cooling fin structure having at least three positive diodes and three negative diodes fixed thereto and a terminal member having a wiring member connecting the positive and negative diodes to form the three-phase full-wave rectifier unit and three first partition members. The wiring member has first connecting portions connected to the positive and negative diodes and second connecting portions connected to three output leads of the stator winding. Each of the first partition members extend toward the insulation cover between one of the first connecting portions and the cooling fin structure.
