A manufacturing machine for manufacturing a wrapping paper web for cigarettes with a low ignition propensity has a coating device () at a coating position defined in a travel path () of web (W). The coating device () has a rotary screen () and a gravure roller () located on the opposite sides of the travel path () and functioning as back rollers for each other. The rotary screen () intermittently applies a liquid burning inhibitor onto one side of the web (W) to form a number of band layers (B) arranged at predetermined intervals in a travelling direction of the web (W), and the gravure roller () applies water onto the other side of the web (W) to form wet bands (A) arranged alternately with the band layers (B) in the traveling direction of the web (W).

A band detection sensor includes LEDs configured to radiate detection light onto one side of a web, photodiodes configured to receive the detection light reflected by the web and output a detection signal corresponding to the detection light, and a discrimination section configured to discriminate bands on the web on the basis of the detection signal from the photodiodes, wherein the discrimination section includes a rise discriminating criterion indicating a rate of rise of the detection signal and generates a band signal indicative of the presence of a band when change of the detection signal fulfills the rise discriminating criterion.

An inspection system for coated paper includes a traveling web of paper, a coating device for forming bands on the web by applying a coating liquid in the width direction of the web such that the bands are spaced from each other in the longitudinal direction of the web at regular intervals, a drying device for drying the web having the bands, a detection unit which is arranged downstream of the coating device for detecting at least either defect in the bands or defect in the web that is caused due to application of the coating liquid. A control device is inputted with the detection result from the detection unit and includes a determination section for determining the type of defect from the detection result. A quality control unit is inputted with the determination result from the determination section and configured to manage the determination result.

Inspection system for coated paper

A low ignition propensity wrapping paper includes a paper web and bands arranged on the web at predetermined intervals in a longitudinal direction of the web. These bands are formed by applying a combustion-inhibition liquid onto the web. The combustion-inhibiting liquid contains a solvent and a combustion inhibitor that is sodium alginate or pectin dissolved in the solvent. The solvent is treated water obtained by substantially removing at least calcium ions and magnesium ions from raw water of a water supply or a well.

A production method for producing a wrapper for cigarettes is provided wherein, with a web kept traveling, a combustion inhibitor in liquid form is intermittently applied to one surface of the web to form undried banded layers arranged with a predetermined space therebetween in the traveling direction of the web, water is applied to the surface of the web over its entire area before or after the combustion inhibitor is applied, and then the web is rapidly dried.

Production method of producing wrapper for cigarettes

Web to be formed into wrapping paper is applied with combustion inhibitor and then dried. Water is applied onto the entire surface of the opposite side to the combustion-inhibitor applied side of the web. The web applied with water is dried while pinched between drying and pressing rollers and stretched in a width direction. In this way, unwrinkled high-quality cigarette wrapping paper having a low ignition propensity can be stably and inexpensively manufactured. As the pressing roller, a heat-resistant rubber roller provided in its surface with a soft portion in a helical way is utilized.

Method and apparatus for manufacturing cigarette wrapping paper

An applied flavoring-material inspecting device suitable to inspect that a flavoring material containing a fluorescent substance is applied on cigarette wrapping paper evenly and in a proper amount. The inspecting device comprises a light source () for casting ultraviolet light onto a flavoring-material application surface of cigarette wrapping paper on which a flavoring material with a fluorescent substance added or containing a fluorescent substance is applied, a camera () for obtaining an image of the flavoring-material application surface from fluorescence radiated due to the ultraviolet light, and an image processing means () for detecting an area of a fluorescence irradiation region in an image for inspection obtained by digitizing the image obtained by the camera and determining an applying state of the flavoring material applied on the cigarette wrapping paper, from the area of the fluorescence irradiation region.

Applied flavoring-material inspection device and cigarette making machine provided with same

A mixture identification system for detecting foreign matter admixed in a tobacco material includes a conveyor for conveying the material, an irradiation device for irradiating infrared light toward an inspection line extending across the conveyor, an infrared camera device for receiving the infrared light reflected from the tobacco material passing across the inspection line and outputting image data of the material based on the received infrared light, and a discrimination circuit for detecting foreign matter in the material based on the output from the camera device. The infrared camera device has infrared filters for receiving the infrared light reflected from the tobacco material and allowing only respective specific wavelengths to pass therethrough, and optical line sensors for receiving the infrared light passed through the respective filters.

Mixture identification system

A cigarette making apparatus comprises an application nozzle for applying a flavoring material to a wrapping-paper web supplied continuously to a wrapping machine, a pump for supplying the flavoring material to the application nozzle, and a pump control device for controlling the pump driving speed depending on the wrapping machine operating speed. The pump control device divides the wrapping machine operating speed into a plurality of speed regions and determines an approximation pump characteristic which approximates a relationship between the pump driving speed and the rate of discharge of the flavoring material from the pump in each of the speed regions, in advance, and determines the speed at which the pump should be driven, depending on the wrapping machine operating speed, according to the approximation pump characteristic. Consequently, the flavoring material is applied to the wrapping-paper web in an appropriate amount depending on the wrapping machine operating speed.

Cigarette making apparatus

A cigarette making apparatus includes a cooling-water passage which allows a coolant to circulate along a flavoring-material supply path which connects an application nozzle for applying a flavoring material to a wrapping-paper web and a pump for supplying the flavoring material to the application nozzle, to thereby cool the flavoring material. A cooling unit controls the temperature of the coolant supplied to the cooling-water passage. Specifically, the cooling unit controls the temperature of the flavoring material by selectively activating a first control system for detecting the temperature of the coolant supplied to the cooling-water passage and controlling the temperature of the coolant, and a second control system for detecting the temperature of the flavoring material supplied to the application nozzle and controlling the temperature of the coolant. Since the temperature of the flavoring material is controlled to fix the viscosity thereof, the amount per unit area of the flavoring material applied to the wrapping-paper web is fixed only by controlling the drive of the pump depending on the rate of supply of the wrapping-paper web.
