A method for producing a white powder, which includes forming on a surface of a base particle a titanium oxide film and a metallic silver film contiguously one upon another in this order, wherein the base particle includes a magnetic material, and wherein said step of forming on the surface of the base particle the titanium oxide film includes dispersing the base particle in a buffer solution and adding a titanium salt aqueous solution while agitating the dispersion.

A photocatalyst which has high catalytic activity, is nontoxic, has a long life, can utilize visible light as it is for photocatalytic reactions, and is useful especially for hydrogen generation; and a process for producing the same. The photocatalyst comprises cadmium sulfide, has a capsule structure, wherein platinum is supported thereto. It can be obtainable by bubbling HS gas into a liquid to which particles of cadmium oxide have been added.

A titania film-coated powder comprising a base particle having provided thereon at least one titania film, wherein the base particle is coated with the titania film by suspending the base particle in a buffer solution having a pH of from 7.0 to 12.0 to obtain a suspension, and adding a hydrogen peroxide-ammonia mixture solution containing peroxotitanic acid to the suspension to thereby regulate a titania deposition reaction induced by decomposition of the peroxotitanic acid in the suspension.

A consolidated material of coated powders obtained by a method which comprises forming a molding by mutually bonding powder particles having a given property and in which the powder particles can be made to have a desired arrangement or can be arranged in positions giving such a predetermined distance that desired properties are obtainable. The present invention shows a process for producing a consolidated material of coated powders which are mutually consolidated, comprising adhering either powders each comprising a base particle having thereon a coating film having a uniform thickness of 0.01 to 20 &#x3bc;m or powders each comprising base particles each having thereon plural coating films having a uniform thickness of 0.01 to 5 &#x3bc;m per film in which at least any adjacent coating films are different in kind, at the coating film or by an adhesive.

A magnetic fluid and a process for producing the same are provided. The magnetic fluid is an excellent fluid which mightily and precisely actuates by the action of an external magnetic field so that its viscosity can be significantly increased and be easily and precisely controlled by regulating the external magnetic field applied thereto. The magnetic fluid is also excellent in the unsusceptibility to oxidation and dispersibility of the particles and has a sufficiently wide viscosity range. Magnetic fluid and process for the production thereof

A highly functional film-coated powder which is produced without using the method based on the hydrolysis of a metal alkoxide and without using a metal alkoxide, which is an expensive compound, or a highly flammable organic solvent and which therefore can be obtained at a low overall product cost without necessitating explosion-proof facilities in the production equipment and while attaining easy temperature and humidity regulation; and a process for producing the same. The film-coated powder comprises a base particle having films on the surface thereof, wherein at least one of the films is formed by reaction of a metal salt in an aqueous solvent having a constant pH. By the technique, the surface of base particle can be evenly coated with a solid phase film while inhibiting particle aggregation without precipitating an independent solid phase in the liquid phase.

A colorant composition capable of giving a coating film excellent in heat resistance and weather resistance which not only can have a single clear color, such as, blue, green, yellow, or the like, and be used for forgery prevention based on discrimination by means other than visible light rays, but also does not suffer color fading even at a high temperature of 350&deg; C. to 600&deg; C.
