A change-speed gearing assembly including upper and lower bearings carried on a partition wall of a casing for the assembly respectively for supporting thereon input and counter shafts, and a bearing retainer secured in a fluid-tight manner to the outside face of the partition wall to retain both the bearings in place. The input shaft extends outwardly through an annular seal member carried on the upper portion of the bearing retainer coaxially with the upper bearing. The bearing retainer is formed with upper and lower cavities and is formed at one side thereof with a vertical groove which opens at its upper end into a side portion of the upper cavity located above the lower edge of the seal member and at its lower end into the upper portion of the lower cavity to maintain the level of lubricating oil in the upper cavity above the lower edge of the seal member.

Lubrication arrangement in change-speed gearing assembly

A power transmission unit comprises a trans-axle casing provided with an upright partition wall to subdivide the interior of the casing into front and rear chambers and having a cover plate for sealingly closing the forward open end of the front chamber, a differential gear unit arranged within the front chamber and having a pair of side-journals rotatably supported by a pair of spaced tapered roller bearings carried on a pair of carrier portions of the casing, and a crown wheel integral with the differential gear unit and in mesh with a drive pinion of a final drive gearing. The cover plate is provided at its inner wall integral with a pair of lateral protrusions or ribs extending oppositely downwardly from an upper portion of the cover plate toward each of the carrier portions to receive lubricating oil flowing around the crown wheel and convey it into a pair of side-spaces formed behind the roller bearings, and a pair of annular shim plates are further interposed between each of the carrier portions and each of the roller bearings, each of the shim plates being provided with an oil dam to remain a part of the lubricating oil within the side-spaces.

Lubrication device for differential gear unit

A lubricating system for an oil seal in a differential gear comprising a differential carrier having a pair of bosses, a pair of spacers, a pair of differential cases and a ring gear therein and a pair of side shafts penetrating both sides of the differential carrier. The oil seal is inserted between each of the side shafts and the differential carrier to prevent leakage of lubricating oil therefrom. In the system of the present invention, there is provided an opening which communicates with a space defined by the side shaft and each of the bosses, spacers and differential cases between the oil seal and the ring gear.

Lubricating system for an oil seal in a differential gear

A control apparatus for automatic transmissions of the type having an output shaft of an engine connected to an input shaft of a speed-change gear mechanism through a torque converter. A frictional engagement device is disposed in parallel to the torque converter for directly linking the output shaft to the input shaft and mechanically transmitting the engine power when it is actuated. The control apparatus automatically and hydraulically controls both the selective actuation of the speed-change gear mechanism and the selective actuation of the direct-linkage frictional engagement device through an arrangement of a governor valve, throttle valve, shift valve, pressure-reducing device, operation element, direct-linkage valve and an interlock valve. The direct-linkage valve introduces pressure to the interlock valve in response to a predetermined relationship of pressures generated by the throttle and governor valves, particularly during a relatively high speed drive condition of the vehicle. The interlock valve actuates the direct-linkage frictional engagement device during this period but temporarily relieves the direct-linkage frictional engagement device when the shift valve establishes a shift operation of the speed-change gear mechanism. The pressure-reducing device is provided between the shift valve and the speed-change gear mechanism to control the timing of the actuation of the speed-change gear mechanism. The operation element transmits pressure variations occurring before and after the pressure-reducing device to the interlock valve for actuation of that valve.
