Provided is a piezoelectric/electrostrictive film type element in which the film thickness of the piezoelectric/electrostrictive film is small, the piezoelectric/electrostrictive film is dense, and the piezoelectric/electrostrictive film has good durability and insulation quality. The bismuth/lead ratio in the peripheral section inside the grain which is relatively close to the grain boundary is greater than the bismuth/lead ratio in the center section inside the grain which is relatively far from the grain boundary.

A laminated body has a substrate and a metallic layer. The substrate is composed of an inorganic material. The metallic layer is disposed on the substrate. One of the substrate and the metallic layer has a main body portion and a plurality of protruding portions. The protruding portions are formed on the main body portion. An outer diameter of each of the protruding portions is configured to decrease towards the main body portion.

A method for producing a piezoelectric/electrostrictive body containing a crystallographically oriented ceramic including a particle-preparing step of preparing pseudocubic particles having substantially a cubic shape; a dispersing step of dispersing the pseudocubic particles in a solvent; a particle section-forming step of forming a seed section and a matrix section directly or indirectly on a base, the seed section being formed by arranging the dispersed pseudocubic particles in a predetermined plane direction, the matrix section being formed from matrix particles having a desired composition; and a firing step of firing the seed section and matrix section formed on the base.

Method for producing crystallographically oriented ceramic

A method for producing a crystallographically oriented ceramic including a preparation step of preparing a template layer having uniform crystal orientation in a predetermined direction, a formation step of forming a shaped body including a matrix layer arranged on the template layer, the matrix layer being composed of a mixed material that contains a lead-containing material and an additional material containing lithium and boron, and a firing step of firing the shaped body formed in the formation step at a predetermined firing temperature. Furthermore, after the firing step, a post-annealing step of heating the shaped body to remove lithium and boron may be included.

A piezoelectric/electrostrictive element includes a laminated vibrator made of laminations of a piezoelectric/electrostrictive film and an electrode film, with the electrode film having an internal electrode film. The piezoelectric/electrostrictive element has a coating formed on a part of a surface of the laminated vibrator so that the coating selectively and completely covers a defect that would otherwise be exposed on the surface of the vibrator before the coating coats the defect. The defect extends to the internal electrode film and the remainder of the surface of the laminated vibrator is free of the coating.
