A surge absorber composed of a surge absorbing element comprising a silicon two-terminal thyristor element having a PNPNP or NPNPN junction structure and a bulk resistance element 12 comprising a material having a resistivity within a range of from 10.sup.-4 .OMEGA..multidot.cm to 10.sup.3 .OMEGA..multidot.cm and having a resistance value within a range of from 5.OMEGA. to 50.OMEGA., these elements being connected in series to form an integral body is disclosed. The inventive surge absorber requires reduced manhours for its production and is of a small size, but yet provides a large surge capacity.

Surge absorber

A circuit for protecting a semiconductor circuit or a telephone communication line from a lightning surge or overvoltage or overcurrent condition. The circuit incorporates a two-terminal surge absorbing device arranged in parallel with the circuit or line to be protected, a thermistor having a high positive temperature coefficient, arranged in series to the circuit or line, between the electric source and the surge absorbing means, and a resistor connected in series with the circuit or line.

Circuit for protecting electronic equipment from overvoltage or

A protection structure for a surge absorbing element for protecting equipment such as communications lines from surges caused by lightning or the like which makes use of a surge absorbing element in parallel with the equipment to be protected and a low melting point metal wire in direct contact with the element and in series therewith. The structure protects the surge absorbing element or assembly from continuous overvoltage or overcurrent which may be generated by a short-circuit of an alternating electric current source and the like.

Protection structure for surge absorbing element

A surge absorber utilizes a varistor electrically connected to a surge absorbing element. The varistor voltage and nonlinearity factor are chosen so that the varistor has a preselected voltage-current characteristic which prevents the varistor from breaking down and short circuiting and resulting in a thermal runaway.

A protection circuit for a semiconductor circuit for protecting it from a thunder surge and overcurrent or overvoltage. A surge absorbing element and a Zenor diode are in parallel connected to the semiconductor circuit. A first fuse are connected before between the electric source and the surge absorbing element. A second fuse and a resistor, which is in series connection, is arranged between the surge absorbing element and the Zenor diode.
