A rocker arm formed of material in a shape of sheet has a pair of side wall portions, a connection portion for a valve stem receiving portion and a connection portion for a pivot receiving portion which interconnect the side wall portions, and an open portion for arranging a roller which is formed between the two connection portions. A distance between outer side surfaces of the pair of side wall portions in the connection portion for the valve stem receiving portion is reduced in a direction from upper edges to lower edges in a step-like shape having two or more step differences, whereby a first outer side surface and a second outer side surface are formed.

A one-way clutch includes: an inner race; an outer race; a plurality of engaging members disposed between the inner and the outer races; a pair of retainers for retaining the engaging members; springs for urging the engaging members in one direction; and a pair of end bearings which are respectively disposed on both sides between the inner race and the outer race, each of the end bearings being formed into a U-shaped cross section by a first hollow cylindrical portion fitted to an outer peripheral surface of the inner race, a second hollow cylindrical portion fitted to an inner peripheral surface of the outer race, and an annular portion connecting the first and the second hollow cylindrical portions. The one-way clutch is characterized in that recessed portions ( ) are formed at least in the inner peripheral surface ( ) of the first hollow cylindrical portion ( ) of each of the end bearings ( ).

One-way clutch

A method for manufacturing a one-way clutch cage allows slits of the cage to be formed with a short punching distance, wherein the slits are narrow in width and the cage is less prone to deformation. In this method for manufacturing a one-way clutch cage, after slits,have been formed, windows,are formed and then an outer annular part,is cut. Therefore, since the slits can be formed in a cylindrical member,that has not yet been subjected to the window formation process of the outer annular part cut-out process, and that is sufficiently strong, a radially diagonal punching operation can be performed to form the slits. During this radially diagonal punching operation, a boundary portion between a cylindrical portion,and an outer flange,is punched out from an inside of the cylindrical member toward an outside of the cylindrical member. Thus, the punching distance can be shortened, the punching die can be thinned in thickness and the slit width can be reduced, as compared with horizontal punching.

Method for manufacturing a one-way clutch cage

A one-way clutch has a plurality of engagement members disposed between an inner ring and an outer ring and spaced at regular intervals in a circumferential direction of the one-way clutch, an annular retainer having a cylindrical part with pockets for receiving the engagement members and a flange which is continuous with an axial end of the cylindrical part and protrudes radially outwardly, and an annular spring for urging the engagement members in a direction of engagement with the inner and outer rings. The retainer has at least one pair of engagement portions to be engaged with the outer ring, the paired engagement portions being located substantially symmetrically relative to an axis of the retainer. Each engagement portion is defined between two pockets and between two slits respectively connected to the two pockets and passing through the flange to the outside of the retainer. The flange in each engagement portion has an outer radius larger than that of a portion of the flange other than the engagement portions and larger than a radius of an inner surface of the outer ring.

One-way clutch incorporating a retainer having paired symmetric

A spring is assembled in an annular shape into a one-way clutch to urge engagement members disposed between inner and outer races of the one-way clutch in one direction. In the spring, first and second transverse sections are alternately provided. Those first and second transverse sections define receiving openings which have a generally rectangular shape adapted to receive the engagement members therein. Each first transverse section has a tab projecting into the respective receiving opening so as to press an engagement member received in the receiving opening. The first and second transverse sections also define adjusting openings which are provided alternately with the receiving openings for adjusting the widths of at least the first transverse sections. Each adjusting opening is of a generally rectangular shape and is provided with curved fillets protruding outwardly in a crosswise direction of the spring, so that the widths of the first transverse sections are prevented from becoming larger than those of the tabs even at their end portions.

Spring for one-way clutch having adjusting openings of a special shape

An improvement is made on a one-way clutch having an inner ring, an outer ring having projections to be engaged with corresponding recesses of a housing, a plurality of engagement members disposed between the inner and outer rings, a cage for the engagement members, a spring member for forcing the engagement members in one direction, a pair of end bearings disposed in opposite lateral positions between the inner and outer rings, and a pair of end bearing retainer plates to be fitted on end faces of the outer ring. Grooves are respectively formed on opposite end portions of an outer peripheral surface of the projections of the outer ring at regular intervals in a circumferential direction. Each of the end bearing retainer plates is provided with fitting portions which are integrally formed around an outer periphery of the end bearing retainer plate at regular intervals and which are respectively engaged with the grooves of the outer ring. One of the end bearing retainer plates is also provided with spring portions which are integrally formed around the outer periphery and which axially project to rest against a part of the housing when placed in position in the housing.
