A tobacco filter stock capable of being molded into a filter only be entanglement of filaments with one another without any adhesion means, whereby the resulting filter has a suitable hardness and a superior whiteness. A tobacco filter and a production process thereof are provided, whereby the tobacco filter stock comprises a ton of crystalline polyolefin filaments, preferably crystalline polypropylene filaments, having a single filament denier of 1 to 6 d/f, a total denier of 30,000 to 60,000 D 40 to 60 crimps/25 mm filament, a crimp elastic modulus of 2.5 to 5.0, a frictional coefficient between filaments of 0.20 to 0.37 and a height ratio (height/width) of 0.01 to 0.1.

Tobacco filter stock

Dyeable polypropylene (PP) fibers for clothes having improved processing properties such as spinning properties, knitting or weaving properties, dyeability are provided, which fibers are obtained by having (a) a 5-20C alkyl phosphate salt or (b) a mixture thereof with an adduct of ethylene oxide to a 6-20C fatty acid in a proportion of the adduct of 1-90% by weight, attached onto dyeable PP fibers obtained by blending a copolymer of an aminoalkyl acrylate with ethylene with a PP and carrying out melt-spinning using the blend as at least one component of the resulting dyeable PP fibers, the amount of (a) or (b) attached onto the fibers in terms of % by weight of the fibers being adjusted so as to satisfy the following expression: ##EQU1## wherein d represents the denier of single fiber.

Dyeable polypropylene fibers for clothes

A heat-adhesive composite fiber consisting of core portion and sheath portion, the core portion being of the side-by-side type composite structure comprising two core components of different polypropylene base polymers at a composite ratio of 1:2 to 2:1, one of the core components having a Q value, expressed in terms of the weight-average molecular weight/the number-average molecular weight, equal to or higher than 6 and the other having a Q value equal to or lower than 5, and the sheath portion meeting at least the requirements that it should comprise a sheath component of a polyethylene base polymer having a melting point lower by at least 20.degree. C. than the lower one of the melting points of the two core components, and it should cover the core portion in a proportion of 25 to 55% by weight based on the total weight of it and the core portion.

Heat-adhesive composite fibers and method for making the same

Nonwoven fabrics contain at least 30% by weight of heat-adhesive composite fibers consisting of core portion and sheath portion, said core portion being of the side-by-side type composite structure comprising two core components of different polypropylene base polymers in a composite ratio of 1:2 to 2:1, one of said core components having a Q value, expressed in terms of the weight-average molecular weight/the number-average molecular weight, equal to or higher than 6 and the other having a Q value equal to or lower than 5, and said sheath portion meeting at least the requirement that it should comprise a sheath component of a polyethylene base polymer having a melting point lower by at least 20.degree. C. than the lower one of the melting points of said two core components. The nonwoven fabrics are bulky and soft due to the crimps of the heat-adhesive composite fibers resultant from the core portion and are stabilized by the inter-fiber bonds of the sheath portion.

Nonwoven fabrics and method for producing them

A method for making nonwoven fabrics includes the steps of preparing heat-adhesive composite fibers including first and second components, forming a web of the composite fibers alone or containing at least 20% by weight of the composite fibers, and heat-treating the web at a temperature higher than the melting point of the second component but lower than the melting point of the first component, while increasing the temperature of the web at a rate of temperature rise of 100.degree. C./30 seconds and more. The first component is polypropylene having specific physical values with respect to density, isotactic pentad ratio, pentad ratio having two different kinds of configurations, and melt flow rate, and the second component is a polymer composed mainly of polyethylene.

Method for making nonwoven fabrics

A surface material for absorptive products comprising a succession of fluid permeable surface layers comprising a nonwoven fabric, an absorptive layer and a backing layer unpervious to fluid being provided, the nonwoven fabric comprising fibers of which surface of 50% or more being occupied by a hydrophobic resin, and a 0.1 to 1.0 weight % of a finishing agent being deposited onto the surface of the fibers. The finishing agent comprises a mixture of a sorbitan monooleate with a polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate in a weight ratio of 1:1 to 9:1. The fibers may further contain a specific wetting agent.

In a process for producing tubular shaped fibrous articles of small diameter by heating and cooling a fibrous bundle containing at least 20 weight % of hot-melt-adhesive composite fibers, the improvements comprise using a shaping apparatus including an injecting chamber, an injecting hole formed in the wall of the chamber, a fibrous bundle outlet provided with a nozzle of a desired shape in cross-section, a cylindrical pipe for introducing the fibrous bundle, which has a cross-sectional area larger than that of the outlet, is located at a position opposite to the outlet and projects toward the outlet and terminates in the injecting chamber, and a core pipe which is open at its base on the outside of the injecting chamber, has its one end inserted through the cylindrical pipe and extending into the nozzle through the injecting chamber, and having a vent in its portion exposed within the injecting chamber, and passing the fibrous bundle through the cylindrical pipe to the outlet, while injecting a hot compressed gas through the injecting hole, thereby to heat and shape the fibrous bundle to and at its hot-melt-adhesive temperature.

Process for producing tubular shaped fibrous articles

A pile-surfaced textile structure comprising a composite characterized in that a low-melting point thermoplastic resin material is fused to a backing material of an air-permeable textile structure which is not softened and thus remains substantially intact upon heating at a given temperature, and in that piles are formed from said resin material in the fibrous form.

Process for the production of pile-surfaced textile structures

A non-woven fabric of hot-melt-adhesive composite fibers having a specified small weight per unit area and soft feeling is provided which fibers are obtained by forming a fiber aggregate consisting of hot-melt-adhesive composite fibers of a specified fineness, alone, composed of as a first component, a polyethylene resin composition (C) consisting of (A) a straight chain, low density polyethylene and (B) another kind of polyethylene, in a specified proportion, and having a specified density and a specified ratio of its melt indexes after and before spinning, and as a second component, a fiber-formable polymer having a m.p. higher than those of either of the polyethylenes constituting the first component, the first component constituting at least a part of the fiber surface of the composite fibers continuously in the longitudinal direction thereof, or a fiber aggregate of a specified average fineness which is mixed fibers of the composite fibers with other fibers of a specified fineness; and subjecting either one of the fiber aggregates to heat treatment at a specified temperature.

Non-woven fabric of hot-melt adhesive composite fibers

A process for producing a highly bulky nonwoven fabric is provided, which process comprises melt-spinning a crystalline propylene polymer as a first component and an ethylene polymer as a second component, into side-by-side or sheath-core type composite fibers so that the first component after melt-spinning can have a specified M.sub.w /M.sub.n value; collecting the fibers into a continuous tow form; stretching the tow in a specified stretch ratio; cooling the stretched tow to a specified temperature and then drawing it by a pair of nip rolls, one or both of which are of a non-metal, to obtain heat-adhesive composite fibers having apparent crimps of a specified number, a specified percentage crimp modulus and substantially no latent crimpability; and heat-treating a web consisting of the fibers alone or a blend thereof with other fibers at a specified temperature.

Process for producing a highly bulky nonwoven fabric

Heat treating a fibrous bundle containing at least 20% by weight of adhesive fibers by introducing the fibrous bundle into a heating zone through an elongated transport zone that is surrounded by said heating zone, imparting heat to the exterior portion of said fibrous bundle by directing heat against the exterior of said transport zone and imparting heat throughout the interior of said fibrous bundle by directing heated gas outwardly through the interior of said transport zone in a direction opposite to the inward movement of said fibrous bundle through said transport zone.
