A dye solvent useful as a material for microcapsules necessary for the manufacture of pressure-sensitive manifold paper. This solvent essentially consists of a hydroaromatic compound for pressure-sensitive manifold paper. The compound is a polycyclic aromatic compound with three or more aromatic rings, some of which rings have been hydrogenated and exhibits solvency, particularly, for a black pigment and a blue pigment of leuco dye.

In a method of the invention for selectively adsorbing CO in a gas mixture containing at least CO and CO.sub.2 with an adsorbent and desorbing the adsorbed CO, the adsorbent carries one metal or a mixture of metals selected from Ni, Mn, Rh, Cu(I) and Ag, and an adsorption temperature is set to be 50.degree. to 250.degree. C. to allow a single-step treatment.

Powder and/or fine particles containing mainly oxides of iron or ferroalloys, which are used or generated in ironworks, steelworks, etc. are sieved to a grain size range between about 32 mesh and about 10mm and used as reduction catalyzer. A reactor is filled with said reduction catalyzer. Exhaust gas containing nitrogen oxides and with added ammonia is passed in contact with said reduction catalyzer through said reactor, while heating said reduction catalyzer to a temperature between about 300.degree. C and about 370.degree. C, whereby nitrogen oxides are removed from said exhaust gas by reduction. Said reduction catalyzer can be used as material for ironmaking, without requiring any further treatment, after use as catalyzer.
