A developing device includes a container storing a two-component developer including a toner and a carrier, a toner carrying body carrying the toner in the container and supplying the toner to a predetermined image carrying body by rotation, a restricting member held in press contact with the toner carrying body, and a restricting nip section formed between the toner carrying body and the restricting member. The restricting nip section selects only the toner in the two-component developer to form a uniform toner layer on the toner carrying body.

An imaging apparatus includes a toner ejection mode whereby toner stored in a black developing container is completely removed from the developing container by rotating a rotary developing unit at a specific timing and using gravity and the centrifugal force that acts on the toner stored in the black developing container due to this rotation, or using the vibration that acts on the black developing container when the rotation is stopped. In this toner ejection mode, the toner is ejected from the developing container of the rotary developing unit, an image for a single sheet of recording paper is formed on the surface of a photoreceptor drum, and the toner constituting the image transferred onto the surface of an intermediate transfer belt by the photoreceptor drum is then recovered by a belt-cleaning unit.

An image forming apparatus includes a photosensitive member rotatably supported; an upstream developing device, in a rotary direction of the member, for developing an electrostatic latent image corresponding to a solid image and/or a literal image with an accommodated developer therein; a downstream developing device, in the direction thereof, for developing an electrostatic latent image corresponding to a line image with an accommodated developer in the same color as that in the upstream developing device; a cleaning device for collecting the developer remained on the surface of the member; and a developer transporting device for transporting the developer collected by the cleaning device to the upstream developing device. The apparatus further includes a charging device for charging a specified zone of the surface of the member; an image forming device for forming the latent image on the charged specified zone thereof; a voltage changing device for selecting one of a first developing bias voltage and a second developing bias voltage which is higher than the first developing bias voltage; and a control device for controlling the voltage changing device. The disclosure relates to a method, using an electrophotographic system, including a first process of transferring the image of an original document to a copy sheet and a second process of transferring a half-tone solid on a specified region of the image on the copy sheet transferred at the first process. Accordingly, for example, when a copy sheet is white, a black toner is used in the first image forming process, and a white toner is used in the second image forming process, a white half-tone solid of the white toner is superimposed on the black toner image. As a result, the black toner image formed on the specified region looks soft half-tone.
