A signal transmission apparatus for transmitting a signal using multiple antenna elements comprises a transmission signal generator configured to convert at least one of a first signal addressed to an arbitrary mobile terminal belonging to a geographical area and a second signal addressed to a specific mobile terminal located in a part of the geographical area into one or more transmission signals to be transmitted using a prescribed beam pattern; a weighting adjustor configured to weight said one or more transmission signals for each of the antenna elements to define the prescribed beam pattern; and a signal synthesizer provided for each of the antenna elements and configured to synthesize the weighted transmission signals.

Signal transmission apparatus and signal transmission method

An adaptive array antenna for use in a base station according to the CDMA mobile communication system. A number of antenna elements greater than the number of elements (a reference number) which would be required when directional antenna elements each having a beam width which is the same as a sector angle are used to provide a service area having a sector angle which is narrower than the element beam width, or a number of antenna elements each having a beam width broader than the sector angle which is less than the reference number may be used to define a service area.

Adaptive array antenna

In a broadband antenna using a semicircular conductor disc, a semicircular cutout is formed in the semicircular radiator concentrically therewith. Alternatively, a semicircular arcwise radiating conductor with a semicircular cutout defined concentrically therewith is bent into a cylindrical shape to form a radiator.
