An imaging device determines an in-focus position by contrast autofocus. The device includes a first optical system including a first lens and a first image sensor, a second optical system including a second lens and a second image sensor, a signal processing unit to read an image signal from at least one of the first image sensor and the second image sensor and generate an image for display, and a display unit to display the generated image. In the contrast autofocus, the signal processing unit reads a part of the image signal from the first image sensor and calculates a contrast value based on the read part of the image signal, and generates the image for display from the image signal read from the second image sensor.

Imaging device

An image capturing apparatus has a function of automatically focusing on an object to be photographed. The apparatus includes a first image-obtaining unit that includes a picture-taking lens which includes a focusing lens, and a first imaging sensor to obtain a first image of the object; a second image-obtaining unit that includes a range-finding lens and a second imaging sensor to obtain a second image of the object; a range finder that calculates a distance to the object by using the first image data and the second image data; and a focus control unit that moves the focusing lens according to the distance calculated by the range finder to attain focus on the object. The range finder includes an image-forming-position determining unit which determines a first image forming position and a second image forming position, based on which a distance calculating unit calculates a distance to the object.

Image capturing apparatus and image capturing method

An imaging apparatus includes a first image capturing unit that captures first image data through a first optical system, a second image capturing unit that captures second image data through a second optical system, and a mode switching unit that switches between a normal mode and a power saving and speedy capturing mode that has a lower consumed power than the normal mode. In a case of operating in the power saving and speedy capturing mode, an operation stopping unit stops the first image capturing unit and the control unit captures an image by use of the second image capturing unit. A battery remaining amount can also be detected. In a case the battery remaining amount is less than a threshold value, a display mode switching unit switches from first display mode displaying a monitored image of first image data to a second display mode displaying a monitored image of second image data.
