A remote controller () for watercraft () includes a rod () extending downward from the free end part of a lever along a lengthwise direction thereof, a lock release button () slidably provided in the free end part so as to be slidable in a first direction different from the lengthwise direction of the lever, and a conversion mechanism provided between the lock release button and the first end of the rod to covert a movement of the lock release button in the first direction to a movement of the rod in a second direction extending along the lengthwise direction of the lever.

Remote controller for watercraft

An outboard motor includes a trolling mode. The outboard motor includes an outboard motor body including a propeller and a drive source, a tiller handle body extending forward from the outboard motor body, a grip handle extending from a front end surface of the tiller handle body and configured to steer the outboard motor body via the tiller handle body, and a trolling switch attached to the tiller handle body and configured to adjust a trolling speed. An operation portion of the trolling switch is attached to a lower front end surface of the tiller handle body, the lower front end surface being located below the grip handle.

An outboard motor steering control system operates at starting of the engine to compare the output of the steering wheel angle sensor which indicates the turned angle of the steering wheel and the output of the rotation angle sensor which indicates the rotation angle of the swivel shaft, determines whether there is a phase difference in steering angle therebetween, responds to any phase difference found by, at the time the boat operator turns the steering wheel, controlling the operation of the actuator connected to the swivel shaft so as to eliminate the difference, and further operates to inform the boat operator of the difference. Owing to this configuration, the difference can be eliminated without causing the boat operator to experience an unnatural feel.

Outboard motor steering control system

An outboard motor steering system includes a hydraulic fluid supply mechanism connected to the steering hydraulic cylinder to supply hydraulic fluid thereto disposed in a space formed between the stern brackets and the swivel case. In other words, since the hydraulic fluid supply mechanism is incorporated into the outboard motor as a unit, the structure can be made simpler than that of the related art and the number of parts in the entire system can be reduced and moreover the work of installation into the boat's hull can be simplified. Also, operating efficiency is improved for an electric motor serving as the source of driving force for a hydraulic pump that supplies hydraulic fluid to the hydraulic cylinder used for steering, and power consumption is reduced.

Outboard motor steering system

In an outboard motor steering control system having a plurality of outboard motors each adapted to be mounted on a stern of a boat by a shaft to be movable by an actuator relative to the boat and each having an internal combustion engine to power a propeller, a desired steering angle of each outboard motor is determined individually based on detected engine speed and rotation angle of a steering wheel, and the operation of the actuator is controlled based on the determined desired steering angle, thereby improving both straight course-holding performance and turning performance by regulating the relative angles between the outboard motors in response to the cruising conditions of the boat.

In an outboard motor steering system, the engine speed is detected as a value indicative of the speed of the boat and a current value for operating a steering hydraulic cylinder is determined to decrease with decreasing engine speed. The current value can therefore be determined in accordance with the steering load to reduce electric power consumption. Moreover, owing to the fact that the drive current is determined as a function of steering load, it is possible to prevent the output of the cylinder from becoming excessive relative to the steering load, thereby ensuring that the steered angle tracks a desired steering angle with good accuracy.

In a boat having a seat, a steering wheel, and an outboard motor, an outboard motor steering system is provided, where the steering wheel is installed near the seat a steering angle sensor installed near the steering wheel for outputting a signal indicative of a steering angle of the steering wheel. The steering system also includes a swivel shaft connected to a propeller to turn the propeller relative to the boat, and an electric motor connected to the swivel shaft for rotating the swivel shaft in response to the detected steering angle. The steering system also includes a manipulation load regulation mechanism, such as a hydraulic damper, to produce an added load for increasing a manipulation load of the steering wheel, thereby enabling reduced operator load by using the electric motor to steer the outboard motor, while improving the operator's feel of steering wheel manipulation.

In an engine speed control system for an outboard motor, overrev prevention control is implemented which determines whether the engine overrevs by comparing the detected engine speed and a desired speed and responds to a determination that the engine overrevs (in which case the cause of the engine speed increase is probably reduced load caused by sucking in of air and/or exhaust gas by the propeller) by driving an electric throttle motor in the direction of reducing the throttle opening, thereby lowering the engine speed to the desired speed. Owing to this configuration, the problem of decline in thrust owing to intake of air and/or exhaust gas by the propeller can be quickly overcome irrespective of operator skill, thereby improving power performance and steerability.

Engine speed control system for outboard motor

A remote operation system for an outboard motor includes a remote control box installed at a cockpit of the boat and a lever attached to a support shaft that is rotatably accommodated in the remote control box for being manipulated by an operator, a plurality of sensors, such as a potentiometer and a rotary encoder provided to generate outputs indicative of an angle of rotation of the support shaft through the lever manipulation, respectively, and a control unit which controls operation of a throttle actuator and a shift actuator based on at least one of the outputs of the sensors, thereby improving reliability and enabling continued regulation of throttle opening and change of shift position even if a failure occurs in one of sensors.

Remote operation system for outboard motor

A watercraft propulsion machine equipped with an outboard motor is provided. The propulsion machine includes a propulsion machine body and the outboard motor. The propulsion machine body is detachably mountable to a hull. The outboard motor is mounted on a rotary shaft provided at the rear of the propulsion machine body and oriented longitudinally of the propulsion machine body. The outboard motor is fixedly mounted on the rotary shaft which is rotatably mounted to the propulsion machine body, and is swingable relative to the propulsion machine body.

A removable marine propulsion attachment for a non-self-propelled marine vehicle includes a frame structure and a propulsion unit removably mounted on a transom board disposed at the rear end of a body of the frame structure. The frame structure also includes a handle disposed at the front end of the frame body for holding by a person riding on the marine vehicle, and connecting devices provided on the frame body for removably connecting the frame body to the marine vehicle.

An outboard motor steering system for an outboard motor mounted on a stern of a boat and having an internal combustion engine and a propeller with a rudder powered by the engine to propel and steer the boat. The system includes a swivel shaft connected to the propeller, a swivel case rotatably accommodating the swivel shaft, and a hydraulic cylinder connected to the swivel shaft to rotate it. The swivel case is formed with a box-like recess to accommodate the hydraulic cylinder therein such that the hydraulic cylinder does not project outside a profile of the outboard motor, regardless of a steered angle of the outboard motor. A rotation angle sensor is also installed in the recess and outputs a signal indicative of an angle of swivel shaft rotation. Further, moving orifices are provided in a hydraulic pressure circuit of the actuator for relieving excessive hydraulic pressure. Thus, space utilization around the outboard motor and boat is not restricted and steering feel is improved.

An outboard motor engine speed control system includes two outboard motors, sensors which detect a travel speed of the boat and the engine speeds of the outboard motors, and a controller which controls the engine speeds of the outboard motors to be synchronized with a highest one of the detected engine speeds when the boat travel speed is equal to or higher than a predetermined value, while controlling the engine speeds of the outboard motors to be synchronized with a lowest one of the detected engine speeds when the boat travel speed is lower the predetermined value. The operations involved in engine speed control of the outboard motors mounted on the boat are thereby simplified and the feel of operation is enhanced.

Outboard motor engine speed control system

In an outboard motor shift control system having a shift mechanism including a forward gear, a reverse gear and a clutch and an electric motor moving the clutch to engage with one of the forward and reverse gears or to disengage it therefrom, current supplied to the motor is detected, and completion of shift change is discriminated based on the detected current. With this, it becomes possible to detect completion of the shift change accurately, without being affected by shift mechanism aging and manufacturing variances.

Outboard motor shift control system

A steering system of an outboard motor is provided that is mounted on a stern of a boat and having an internal combustion engine at its upper portion and a propeller with a rudder at its lower portion that is powered by the engine to propel the boat. The steering system includes a cowl enclosing the engine and a hydraulic cylinder connected to the outboard motor at one end and to the boat at other end to swivel the outboard motor relative to the boat to steer the cowl, the propeller, and the engine about a vertical axis. The hydraulic cylinder is located inside a vertical plane of a profile of the outboard motor when viewed along the vertical axis such that the hydraulic cylinder never projects outside the profile in any steered position of the motor.
