An electronic device is disclosed. The electronic device can sense touch on its touch screen while in a sleep state in a manner that allows the electronic device to respond to certain touch inputs, while consuming less power due to touch sensing than while in an awake state. For example, sensing touch during the sleep state can allow the electronic device to wake (e.g., transition from the sleep state to the awake state) in response to detecting a certain touch input (e.g., a tap or other touch input) on its touch screen while in the sleep state. Various ways for the electronic device to sense touch during the sleep state are disclosed.

Low power touch sensing during a sleep state of an electronic device

A self-capacitance touch screen. In some examples, the touch screen comprises a plurality of display pixels, a first display pixel of the plurality of display pixels including a first touch electrode of a plurality of touch electrodes, and a gate line coupled to the first display pixel, wherein the gate line is configured such that a voltage at the gate line substantially follows a voltage at the first touch electrode. In some examples, the gate line is coupled to a resistor, the resistor being configured to decouple the gate line from ground. In some examples, the gate line is coupled to an AC voltage source.

Panel bootstraping architectures for in-cell self-capacitance

A touch sensor panel is disclosed. The touch sensor panel can include a plurality of touch nodes, the plurality of touch nodes including a first set of touch nodes and a second set of touch nodes, different from the first set of the touch nodes. In some examples, sense circuitry can be configured to, during a first scan, sense a first combined touch signal of the first set of the touch nodes, and during a second scan, sense a second combined touch signal of the second set of the touch nodes. A touch processor can be configured to determine a touch image at the plurality of touch nodes based on the first and second combined touch signals.

Compressive touch sensing

A method for pre-charging a display panel may include simultaneously charging the display panel that displays image data and receives one or more touch inputs via a first voltage source and a capacitor that provides a first voltage to the display panel via a second voltage source. The first voltage is associated with receiving the one or more touch inputs, and the display panel and the capacitor are simultaneously charged for a first amount of time. The method may then include charging the display panel via the capacitor after the first amount of time for a second amount of time and charging the display panel via the second voltage source after the second amount of time for a third amount of time.

Systems and methods for pre-charging a display panel

A touch sensor panel configured to switch between a mutual capacitance touch sensing architecture and a self-capacitance touch sensing architecture is provided. The touch sensor panel includes circuitry that can switch the configuration of touch electrodes to act as either drive lines in a mutual capacitance configuration or as sense electrodes in a self-capacitance configuration. The touch sensor panel also includes circuitry that can switch the configuration of touch electrodes to act as either sense lines in a mutual capacitance configuration or as sense electrode in a self-capacitance configuration. By splitting a self-capacitance touch mode into a drive line self-capacitive mode and sense line self-capacitive mode, the touch sensor panel is able to reuse components thus requiring less space, weight and power.

Reconfigurable circuit topology for both self-capacitance and mutual capacitance sensing

A touch screen to reduce touch pixel coupling. In some examples, the touch screen can include a first display pixel and a second display pixel in a row of display pixels, where the first display pixel can be configurable to be decoupled from the second display pixel during at least a touch sensing phase of the touch screen. In some examples, the touch screen can include a display pixel having a first and a second transistor, where the second transistor can be electrically connected to a gate terminal of the first transistor, and can be diode-connected. In some examples, the touch screen can include two display pixels, each display pixel having two transistors, where two of the transistors can be electrically connected to a first gate line, and the remaining two transistors can be individually electrically connected to a second and third gate line, respectively.

Reducing touch pixel coupling

A self-capacitance touch sensor panel including a plurality of touch electrodes and one or more sense circuits coupled to the touch electrodes. The touch sensor panel also includes at least one offset cancellation circuit coupled to at least one of the touch electrodes and configured to generate an offset cancellation signal to cancel an offset signal at the at least one touch electrode. In some examples, the offset cancellation signal can be an offset cancellation current to cancel an offset current. In some examples, the offset cancellation circuit comprises a variable resistor, and a magnitude of the offset cancellation current is based on a resistance of the variable resistor. In some examples, each touch electrode is coupled to an offset cancellation circuit. In other examples, a single offset cancellation circuit is shared by a plurality of touch electrodes.

Frequency independent offset cancellation scheme in touch receiver channel

The present disclosure relates to devices and methods for reducing power consumption of a display. One electronic display includes a first switch coupled between a first gate of a first transistor and a second gate of a second transistor to selectively connect the first gate to the second gate. The display includes a second switch coupled between the second gate of the second transistor and a third gate of a third transistor to selectively connect the second gate to the third gate. The display also includes driving circuitry that controls the first switch to connect the first gate to the second gate to share a first charge between the first and second gates. The driving circuitry also controls the second switch to connect the second gate to the third gate to share a second charge between the second and third gates. Accordingly, power consumption of the display may be reduced.

Devices and methods for reducing power consumption of a demultiplexer

The present disclosure is directed to systems and methods for determining sheet resistance values in a liquid crystal display (LCD) panel. In certain embodiments, a system for determining sheet resistance values in an LCD panel may include a display driver integrated circuit (IC). The display driver IC may include a first switch coupled to a first input/output (I/O) pad and a second I/O pad such that the first I/O pad is configured to couple to a voltage source and the second I/O pad is configured to couple to a current source. The display driver IC may also include a second switch coupled to a third I/O pad and the second I/O pad such that the second switch has substantially the same geometry as the first switch and the third I/O pad is configured to couple to a thin-film transistor (TFT) layer of the display panel.

Systems and methods for measuring sheet resistance

A system and method for characterizing the power and luminance values for a display. This may include testing a device to determine a luminance value for a display of a given device at a given current and determining whether the first current is to be adjusted during future uses based on a comparison of the luminance with at least one threshold value. This may also include storing an adjusted current value if it is determined that the first current is to be adjusted.

Backlight calibration and control

A charge pump driver circuit has a first charge switch that couples a first node of a flying capacitor to a first power supply node, and a second charge switch that couples a second node of the capacitor to a second power supply node. Control circuitry is coupled to open the second charge switch and discharge the second node of the capacitor, in response to a control signal. Other embodiments are also described and claimed.
