In order to more efficiently use a cache memory to realize improved response ability in a storage system, there provided are a cache memory which stores the data read from the storage apparatus, an access monitoring unit which monitors a state of access from the upper apparatus to the data stored in the storage apparatus, a schedule information creating unit which creates schedule information that determines contents to be stored in the cache memory based on the access state, and a memory controlling unit which controls record-processing of the data from the storage apparatus to the cache memory and removal-processing of the data from the cache memory based on the schedule information.

Control apparatus, storage system, and memory controlling method

A storage controller and method are provided. The storage controller includes control sections including storage sections into which data transmitted from a host unit is cached, one of the control sections being a main control section which controls firmware update in the control sections. The main control section includes an instruction updater sending an update instruction to a sub control section in the control sections in which firmware is to be updated, and an area instructor requesting the sub control section to transmit area information, the sub control section including an area information obtainer obtaining, according to the instruction from the area instructor and an area information transmitter transmitting to the area instructor; and an area setter setting the location of the cache area in the storage section on the basis of the instruction.

Storage controller and firmware updating method

A storage system includes a host and a storage apparatus. The host having multiple paths connecting with the storage apparatus transfers path identification information received from the storage apparatus, to the storage apparatus via all paths other than a path through which the path identification information has been transmitted. The storage apparatus includes a table for storing the path identification information transmitted to the host and path tables for storing the path identification information received from the host. When the storage apparatus receives a request for replacing the firmware, it determines whether the path tables are matched by comparing the path tables with each other. If the path tables are matched, the storage apparatus sequentially replaces the firmware corresponding to the multiple paths in a hot swapping manner.
