A system and method for facilitating information interexchange between a wireless telecommunications system having at least one telecommunications device therein and an information service provider. A Business-to-Business (B2B) engine is connected to the telecommunications system for receiving realtime information related to a telecommunications device within the telecommunications system. This realtime information is provided by the B2B engine to the information service provider, which consequently provides content data to the telecommunications device within the telecommunications system.

A system, method, and apparatus for facilitating information interexchange between a telecommunications network serving a wireless communications device and an information service provider. A Business-to-Business (B2B) engine polls a telecommunications node associated with the telecommunications network serving the wireless communications device for real-time information. The telecommunications node responds by transmitting the requested real-time information to the B2B engine, which, in turn, provides the received real-time information to the information service provider. The information service provider, in turn, provides a service, tailored according to the real-time information received, to a subscriber associated with the wireless communications device.

Methods, systems, and arrangements enable a mobile equipment (ME) to provide notification when a preselected number is called. In accordance with certain embodiments, upon the calling of a preselected number, the ME sends a notification to the network in addition to setting up a voice call to the dialed number. Preselected number(s) may include emergency numbers (e.g., &ldquo;911&rdquo;), portal-defined numbers, etc. The notification may include dialed digits, time of call, and/or location information originating from the ME. When location information is included with the notification, the location information may be forwarded to the portal for further processing and possible additional transmission. Also, location information from the notification can reduce response time and signaling capacity usage when the network responds to an inquiry regarding location from an emergency service provider.

Methods, systems, and arrangements facilitate information interexchange between a telecommunications network and an information service provider. For example, a business-to-business (B2B) engine includes one or more logic modules for interfacing with the telecommunications network and with the information service provider. The B2B engine facilitates the reporting of, e.g., realtime information from the telecommunications network to the information service provider. This realtime information may include subscriber unit location that is proactively sent by the subscriber unit to the B2B engine for forwarding to the information service provider. To avoid possibly congesting the telecommunications network, the B2B engine is empowered to monitor the number of proactively-transmitted location messages and to limit them if they exceed a defined threshold.

A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for allowing business indoor mobile subscribers having multiple profiles to access both the business indoor network and the Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN) using one mobile terminal. To implement this dual-network service, a toggle feature can be provided to allow a business indoor mobile subscriber to choose between different subscriber profiles. Thus, if a mobile subscriber currently has the business indoor profile active and wishes to access the PLMN while roaming outside the business indoor cell(s), the mobile subscriber can initiate this toggle feature, and upon acknowledgment and authentication by the PLMN, the mobile subscriber can have access to the PLMN.

A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for allowing an ongoing Time of Arrival (TOA) based positioning of a mobile station to proceed if a radio related handover has occurred before the expiration of a delta timer in a Base Station Controller (BSC). The BSC stores an HOTIMER value therein, which corresponds to the amount of time involved in a normal radio-related handover procedure from the sending of a Handover Command to the reception of a Handover Complete message. If the BSC delta timer is active, e.g., positioning is ongoing, and the BSC determines that a radio related handover is needed, the BSC checks the amount of time remaining in the BSC delta timer. If that amount is more than the HOTIMER, then the ongoing positioning is not canceled.

System and method for time of arrival based positioning during handover

A system, method, and apparatus for determining a position of a mobile station in a mobile telecommunications network is disclosed. Speech interruptions during mobile station positioning are reduced or eliminated by controlling the number of access bursts transmitted by the mobile station. The number of access burst transmitted by the mobile station is controlled to a level commensurate with the degree of positioning accuracy required by the requesting application. The number of access bursts is calculated by the Mobile Location Center (MLC) and communicated to the Base Transceiver Station (BTS) via the Base Station Controller (BSC). After the requisite number of access bursts are received, the BTS transmits a signal to the mobile station, causing the mobile station to cease transmitting access bursts.

System, method and apparatus to prepare base transceiver station for intra-cell asynchronous positioning handover

An improved system and method for determining a position of a mobile station in a mobile telecommunications network is disclosed. The system includes a database having geographical information pertaining to the service area of the telecommunications network, including whether service areas therein are characterized as urban areas, suburban areas or &ldquo;badurban&rdquo; areas in which radio communication is especially limited. The system further includes a mobile location center (MLC) which, among other things, calculates the number of access signal bursts which are required for transmission by the mobile station to be located. The access burst number is calculated based upon the geographical information pertaining to the service areas stored in the database and upon a requested position determination accuracy. By measuring the time of arrival delay of the burst signal transmission received by two or more base transceiver stations, the MLC computes the position of the mobile station.

System and method for time of arrival positioning measurements based upon network characteristics

A system and method of providing preferential access to a cellular telecommunications network to a localized service area (LSA) subscriber who subscribes to a LSA and is operating a mobile station (MS) within the LSA. The cells which are included in the LSA are defined in a base station controller (BSC). The LSA subscriber's subscription information in the home location register (HLR) identifies any LSAs to which the subscriber subscribes. A Preferential Priority Indicator (PPI) property may also be set for the MS in the HLR. The PPI property indicates that the MS is to be granted preferential access whenever the PPI property is set. A Preferential Priority Network Indicator (PPN) property is also set in the BSC that indicates that the BSC supports use of the PPI property whenever the PPN property is set. When the MS originates a call, the BSC derives a second LSA-ID from the Cell-ID for the cell where the call originated. The BSC then determines whether the first LSA-ID matches the second LSA-ID, and in one embodiment, provides preferential access to the MS if the LSA-IDs match. In a second embodiment, the system, also determines whether the PPI property is set and whether the PPN property is set. Preferential access is provided to the MS upon determining that the first LSA-ID matches the second LSA-ID, the PPI property is set, and the PPN property is set.

System and method of providing preferential access to subscribers of localized service areas in a radio telecommunications network

A telecommunications system and method is disclosed for providing adaptive reservation of radio resources within a Localized Service Area (LSA) in order to achieve more efficient channel utilization of radio resources within the LSA. During a predefined time period, a base station controller (BSC) within the LSA scans for the percentage of radio resources used by public mobile subscriber and LSA mobile subscribers. The BSC compares the scanned percentage of radio resources with a radio resource usage profile stored in the BSC. If the scanned radio resource usage differs from the radio resource usage profile, the BSC sets new radio resource reservations for LSA and public mobile subscribers and updates the radio resource usage profile with the new radio resource reservations. The process is repeated to ensure maximum efficient radio resource usage within the LSA.
