An emergency aircraft landing system includes a mobile platform having a flat top surface configured to receive an aircraft landing without deployed landing gear, a plurality of wheels connected to the mobile platform by a plurality of axles mounted to a frame of the mobile platform, a propulsion system secured to the frame of the mobile platform configured to accelerate the mobile platform to a speed, and a securing mechanism configured to activate upon contact with an aircraft and secure the aircraft to the mobile platform during deceleration. Further, a method for emergency landing of an aircraft includes positioning the mobile platform at a position on a runway, accelerating the mobile platform to a speed, receiving the aircraft on the top surface, activating a securing mechanism to affix the aircraft to the mobile platform, and decelerating the combined mobile platform and aircraft.

A method for treating expansive soils includes excavating a hole in a superficial expansive soil layer from an excavation site to form the hole and an expansive soil material. Further, the expansive soil material is mixed with an inert material, at least two chemical additives, and a binder to form an additive soil material. The additive soil material is further poured into the hole in the excavation site to form an additive soil layer. The inert material is a sand, the chemical additives are a sulfur and a silica fume, and the binder is a dicyclopentadiene. The sand and the sulfur are present in the additive soil material in an amount from 30 wt. % to 40 wt. % and 12 wt. % to 25 wt. %, respectively, based on a total weight of the additive soil material.

The foundation system includes a below ground rigid raft foundation to bear a load for an above ground structure, and granular cushions and piles formed below the raft foundation. The granular cushions are configured for uniform load distribution of the raft foundation and the piles are configured to bear a load of the above ground structure and the raft foundation. The foundation system further includes stone columns encapsulated with a non-woven geofabric and configured to stabilize the raft foundation. The raft foundation is disposed adjacent and above the stone columns, the granular cushions are present between neighboring stone columns, and the granular cushions are present between the stone columns and the piles. The stone columns have a cementing agent for stabilization.

Geofabric-containing foundation system

A flexible pavement structure comprises a surface layer, a base layer, a sub-base layer, and a subgrade layer. Herein, the surface layer is adjacent to and above the base layer, and the sub-base layer is adjacent to and above the subgrade layer. The flexible pavement structure further comprises a layered system composed of first, second, and third materials different from each other, and is disposed as an interface layer between the base layer and the sub-base layer. The first material is a geotextile fabric selected from a group consisting of polypropylene and polyethylene, providing ground stabilization or reinforcement properties. The second material is a waterproof heat insulation material selected from a group consisting of cross-linked polyethylene foam and laminated aluminum foil, providing waterproofing or impermeability properties. The third material is a glass foamed insulation material.
