A display apparatus includes a display panel, a light source, a light guide plate, and a receiving part. The display panel is configured to receive light to display an image. The light source is configured to emit the light. The light guide plate is configured to receive and guide the light to the display panel. The receiving part is configured to hold the light source and the light guide plate. The light guide plate includes a first light guide part and a second light guide part. The first light guide part includes a first material. The second light guide part includes a second material different from the first material. The second light guide part has a tapered shape and is coupled to the first light guide part.

Method of manufacturing a light guide plate and display apparatus including the same

A back light unit includes a light source and a light guide unit having a first surface emitting light to a display panel, a second surface facing the first surface, and a plurality of connecting surfaces connecting the first surface and the second surface. The connecting surfaces includes a first side surface, a second side surfaces and a third side surface between the first side surface and a second side surface, A first included angle of the first incident surface and the first diffusion surface is equal to or greater than about 90 degree.

Backlight unit

A backlight assembly includes a plurality of point light sources, a light guide plate ('LGP') and a printed circuit board ('PCB'). The LGP has a light incident face in which light is incident, a side surface extending from an edge portion of the light incident face, and a fixing groove which is formed from the side surface toward an inner portion thereof. The PCB includes a point light source disposing portion in which the point light sources are disposed along a first direction, an extending portion extending from the point light disposing portion along a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction, and a protrusion which is fixed at an end portion of the extending portion. The protrusion of the PCB is coupled with the fixing groove of the LGP.

Backlight assembly

The high intensity light output of edge lighting point light sources such as LEDs may generate undesired leakage light that is optically conducted by way of a continuum of the material of a components affixing adhesive member. In accordance with present disclosure, air filled grooves or other such discontinuities are formed in the adhesive member along respective light output pathways of the respective point light sources. One corresponding embodiment comprises spaced apart LEDs mounted on an FPCB; a light guide plate (LGP) disposed adjacent to the LEDs; a main support accommodating the LEDs and the LGP; and an adhesive member formed to affix together the FPCB, the main support, and the light guide, wherein the adhesive member is patterned to define air filled grooves along respective light output pathways of the LEDs.

A backlight unit includes a light guide plate and a light source unit. The light guide plate includes an exit surface which has a polygonal shape, a lower surface which faces the exit surface, and side surfaces which connect the exit surface and the lower surface. The light guide plate guides a light such that that light exits from the exit surface. The light source unit includes a plurality of light sources which provide the light to the light guide plate. The light guide plate includes a protrusion which protrudes from an end of the lower surface in a direction opposite to the exit surface. The protrusion includes a first inclination surface which is connected to one of the side surfaces, and a second inclination surface which connects the first inclination surface and the lower surface to each other.

Backlight unit and display apparatus having the same

A light guide plate includes a light incident surface to which light is incident as incident light, an opposite surface formed opposite to the light incident surface, a light emitting surface through which the incident light is emitted, a rear surface formed opposite to the light emitting surface and including a prism pattern which reflects the incident light to the light emitting surface, and lateral surfaces, wherein a diffuse reflection pattern is formed on at least any one of the light emitting surface and the lateral surfaces to diffuse-reflect light incident to the lateral surfaces, thus rendering a brightness at both the opposite surface and the light incident surface substantially uniform.

Light guide plate, method of manufacturing the same, and liquid crystal display device including the same

A backlight assembly including direct-type lamps and an edge-type lamp and a liquid crystal display having the backlight assembly. The direct-type lamps are arranged with a predetermined interval to emit light, and the edge-type lamp is provided at a side portion of a light guide plate provided above or below the direct-type lamps. The light guide plate and a light guide pattern output light, which is emitted from the edge-type lamp, through a space between two adjacent direct-type lamps. The backlight assembly supplies light to the light receiving region such that brightness is uniformly distributed throughout the light receiving region regardless of the position of the direct-type lamps.

Backlight assembly and liquid crystal display having the same

A display apparatus includes; a plurality of light sources which emit a light, a display panel which displaying an image using the light, a light guide plate which guides the light emitted from the light sources to the display panel, and a plurality of reflection members that are spaced apart from each other and coupled with a first side of the light guide plate and a second side of the light guide plate facing the first side to reflect light traveling inside the light guide plate to the first and second sides, wherein the plurality of light sources include; a plurality of first light sources, each of the plurality of first light sources being arranged corresponding to an area between two adjacent reflection members of the plurality of reflection members on the first side and a plurality of second light sources each being arranged corresponding to an area between two reflection members on the second side.

A backlight assembly includes; a plurality of light guide blocks disposed substantially in parallel with each other along a first direction, each of the plurality of light guide blocks including; a light guide plate ('LGP') having a wedge-shape decreasing in thickness from a first side thereof to a second side thereof, and a light source unit disposed facing a side surface of the LGP, and a light source driving unit which individually controls the light source units of the plurality of light guide blocks to emit light via a local dimming method.

Backlight assembly and display device having the same

A display apparatus includes a display panel, a light source and a plurality of a light guiding plate. The LGP includes light incident, counter, light emitting and rear surfaces. The counter and rear surfaces are respectively opposite to the light incident and light emitting surfaces. The light emitting surface includes an ineffective light emitting area making contact with the light incident surface and an effective light emitting area connecting the ineffective light emitting area with the counter surface. The counter surface of a first light guiding plate is disposed overlapping the light incident surface of a second light guiding plate along a first direction, so that the rear surface partially overlaps with the effective light emitting area of the second light guiding plate, and the light guiding plates collectively form a light guiding plate array along the first direction.
