An apparatus and method for executing a shortcut function in a portable terminal are provided, in which a display is included, a memory stores at least one drag pattern, a hold screen shortcut list, and a volume control menu, and a controller displays a hold screen by executing a hold function, recognizes a drag pattern received from a user, compares the recognized drag pattern with the stored at least one drag pattern, and executes the hold screen shortcut function for executing the shortcut function during executing the hold function when the recognized drag pattern is identical to a first drag pattern among the stored at least one drag pattern.

Apparatus and method for executing shortcut function in a portable terminal

An apparatus and a method for controlling a screen brightness in a portable terminal, by which consumption of current by the portable terminal can be reduced by reducing the brightness of the display while a screen is being loaded for display. The apparatus preferably includes: a display unit for changing a screen brightness value thereof depending on whether data is operated, and displaying a screen thereof having the changed screen brightness value; and a controller for performing a control operation for changing the screen brightness value while the data is operated, and performing a control operation for causing the changed screen brightness value to return to a screen brightness value before the change when the operation of the data is completed.

Apparatus and method for controlling screen brightness in portable terminal

A method for controlling the power supplied to an RF receiver in a paging receiver is provided. The method includes the step of synchronizing the paging receiver with a paging system which periodically transmits paging data at specified repetitive intervals. The paging data includes preamble data followed by batch data. Power is then periodically supplied to the RF receiver at the specified repetitive intervals. When the RF receiver is being supplied with the power, it is determined whether the RF receiver is receiving the preamble data. If the RF receiver is receiving the preamble data, then self frame data is detected from the batch data Next, it is checked whether information indicating an end of the batch data is being received. If the information is being received, then the power supplied to the RF receiver is cut off.

Method of controlling power supplied to RF receiver and paging receiver employing the same

The present invention relates to bidirectional radio paging systems and methods of paging without limiting destinations wherein at least one bidirectional radio pager and an uplink control device share a database containing information on a plurality of paging destinations and about response messages of various contents, and wherein a specified uplink data format is used for communication between base station equipment and the bidirectional radio pager, whereby the bidirectional radio pager comprises a first data generator for transforming destination information not previously registered in the database to a data format substantially in conformity with a data format associated with the uplink control device and a second data generator for generating radio transmission data containing a free destination flag as a message type, data related to the formatted unregistered destination information provided by the first data generator, and an index indicating an optional message content selected from the database.
